Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Despite all the injuries the starting XI shouldnt be all too bad, lacking a bit outwide maybe. The bench will look rather worrying though!

Yeah, it's only the wide areas I'm worried about - but to be honest that's the best way to play against Arsenal, so it's a pretty big deal. I don't trust a midfield of Gibson, Fletcher and Carrick to accomplish anything much at all, even if it's versus Wilshere, Diaby and Denilson. We need those wide areas as a relief valve.

Also worrying that there was no mention of Anderson at the press conference. Hope he's not moving into the Hargreaves world of 'we just don't talk about them anymore' injuries.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The problem with our midfield players like Gibson is more how poor he is at finding space to receive a pass! Fletcher and Anderson are to blame sometimes also (Ando improved on that this season). Our ridiculously good movement of the forward 3 of 08' made it much easier to get the ball forward than our more static attack.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The last 2 games Gibson played, he never looked left once, which isn't good when your in a playmaker role.
When we're defending he's usually jogging back as well...

I've seen a couple of reserve games recently, and Tunnicliffe & Morrison have been pretty impressive, so they might have a chance...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Will have to be a 4-3-3 with Rooney on the left, Berba on the right and Hernandez through the middle. Dont want to see Scholes and Giggs both in the team...has to be one or the other.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

hey guys, is any of u in contact with marukomu (being him a man utd fan, maybe some of u guys chat with him via messenger)?
i'd like to know if he and his family are ok right now.
sorry for the lil off topic.

WTF At our Lineup  This should be interesting, we'll either smash 'em or get hammered.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Um. What?!

This may be the worst team I've ever seen us field, in 20 years of watching. Our ENTIRE MIDFIELD is injured. Ando, Hargreaves, Fletch, Carrick and presumably Scholes. Shocking.

Glad I bet on Arsenal before the team news came out!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

This could go badly...

Nice to see Valencia on the bench

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Remember a few years ago, Arsenal played a 2nd rate team in the FA Cup and we obliterated them - leading to their collapse and a great run of form from us?

Payback's a bitch.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He never lost that fire. He did manage to find his first touch again though. Excellent game from him.

vdS needs to be convinced to stay on for another season at least.

Smalling and Vidic dominated the 18 yard box.

The energy and desire of the twins was exactly what we needed in this kind of match.

Hernandez was very unlucky not to score, kept the Arsenal defence on their toes the whole match.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah, sadly that probably won't happen and whoever comes in will have some very big boots to fill in.

I've seen few keepers who bring such a great calm and composing impact on their backline like him.

Valencia's return was great to see as well. Looked understandably a bit rusty but still managed to show some nice pace and a few good touches.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yep VdS made one tiny mistake other than so cool, so calm, experienced. What a goalie!

Smalling getting better and better.

Valencia back and looks good already!!

Chicharito's movement and pace is scary! Good header of the ball it seems too! Could've done better overall today though and should've scored a goal. Still learning, whatever....

So many positives, you guys are right. This was a very good match for United.

As for Scholes, two things must be said.

1. What a legend! What a player! In his 10 mins or so on the field, he delivered 4 AMAZING throughballs, two of which at least should've been scored (1 by Rooney and 1 Hernandez), what an impact!

2. What a f'n stupid psycho he's become. Two HORRENDOUS challenges aimed to hurt opponents. Could've been sent off twice! VERY lucky to stay on the pitch. You'd think an experienced campaigner like him can keep control of his emotions a little better especially in a match that's already won and doesn't need silly things like that, but no....

So I'm very proud of him for his impressive performance and also very disappointed in him from a sporting view.

Oh and Wayne Rooney, Man of the match of course! If only he'd finished off that great chance at the end, he could've got perfect marks! Fantastic performance!

I'm sure you've watched him long enough to know that he's always been a poor tackler throughout his career, Sina. It's not something that's happened overnight.

It's lead to costly sending offs and suspensions throughout his career and he never seems to learn.

It was little to do with emotion, more to do with a lack of patience he seems to show off the ball, diving in recklessly. He seems to enjoy being on the ball and dictating the tempo but off it he is prone to rushing into diving tackles and attempting to win the ball back in reckless fashion. He was very lucky he didn't catch the player the second time round or he would have walked.

Yeah it's nothing new but of course it DOES have to do with emotions of course bro and not being able to control them which is a little embarassing for someone his age and with all his experience. Especially in a match that wasn't even heated or anything and already won. Could've injured 2 players and get himself suspended too. He gets fired up too quickly and too intensely for no reason and like you said without the ball, he's angry and reckless and impatient leading to stupid tackles like that.

I would've liked to see him get a red card and be suspended for next match so he can learn. Right now he got off way too easily and lightly. At his age and experience and intelligence, you'd think he'd learned by now! Those were ridiculous. Looked like he'd been watching Carragher! :P lol

Certainly can't blame Nasri for almost slapping him especially since that was his 2nd reckless tackle within 3 minutes or so!

Anyway, that nastiness aside, he made a GREAT impact though. Shows just how effective he can be with his vision and range of passing even if given 10-20 minutes at the end of the match to dictate play. Still a very useful player then. Fergie just needs to yell at him a bit to make sure he stays in control. Giggs loses it sometimes too but overall seems much cooler than the ginger one.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Something I noticed about Rooney today, his touch was perfect.

That's been the worst thing during this season, but today the way he took down some of the high balls was beautiful to watch, the old Rooney was alive and kicking.

I still hate the cunt but if he's gonna play like that for the rest of the season I'm looking forward to it.

Also, Edwin van der Sar, what an amazing bloke he is. It'll be a sad, sad day when he leaves but the fans do let him know how much we think of him. Singing 'One more year!' and 'Fergie sign him up!' must've raised a smile at least.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Bizarrely, if Scholes had been sent off he would have had a one match ban, but because he wasn't sent off he has a 2 match ban for 10 yellows. Weird.

I'm the first to admit tht for the umpteenth time Fergie has made me look stupid. When I saw that lineup, I thought we'd basically given up. Clearly wrong.

Lots of credit to Edwin, Wayne and Smalling who were superb, but a rare and special mention to Darren Gibson, who very quietly had one of his best matches for us.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yep Gibson was good too.

Everybody played well today basically.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I like how the Da Silva's used their twin powers to telepathically locate each other without even looking.

Can you imagine their parents in the stands going: "Those are our boys, both playing for United..." How surreal is that? Bet it never crossed their mind when they were little kids...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The best stat I heard yesterday was that the twins were BORN on the day Giggsy signed for United. That is mental.
