Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We'll win one half out of four annoyingly.

Always the way against Chelsea, we start off great and then they dominate us, plus we can't win at Stamford Bridge, plus SAF has a shocking record against Ancelotti.

Annoying that we've got Chelsea, annoying too that we'd only get Barca in the final if we made it, we'll get destroyed in 90 mins, whereas we'd get slightly less destroyed over two legs.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Considering how our performances have been like this season, Im not holding any hope in the CL. Assuming we beat Chelsea, potentially having to beat Inter and then Barca's too much to ask for.
We've been talking about stepping up a gear for the last half of the season since January and it just hasnt happened yet.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yes but we've been grinding results all of over the course of the season. There's no reason why we can't do it in the CL.

I think we have a decent chance this year again, just like I think Shakhtar will take Barcelona out of the cup (that's right, you saw it here first :P).

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think that's very defeatist (nothing new :P) but I do think this side is probably a season too early for the Champions League but saying that apart from Barcelona were at least just as good as Chelsea and Inter so the possibility of making the final is their which in itself is an AMAZING achievement and anything can happen over 90 minutes.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Evans is nothing but a liability at the moment, needs to get his decision making in order. What was he thinking doing that... not only as he injured another player, but he's also got himself sent off when we're already struggling for defenders in a game we should be winning.

Stupid.

Edit: Lucky goal, but what a big result that could turn out to be.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I thought Evans did alright today, bar that silly pass around the 20th minute and, of course, that reckless challenge. I was less nervous with him today than with Brown last tuesday. Still, he should know better than to make this kind of tackle.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

What we gonna do about this striker situation? Chicharito gets a run of games and a few goals, but the moment he takes his foot off the gas, Berba comes in with a match winner. And we know Rooney isnt gonna be dropped, so who do we start with in the next game?
Felt sorry for Owen, he just cant get a break. He waits forever to get a chance and just as he was warming up to come on, Evans gets sent off and the Owen sub is cancelled.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

You're not gonna complain about it, are you ? :P

It's nice to have strikers that are all able to score goals. It was a problem last year when we only relied on Rooney to score for us and Berbatov wasn't given much of a chance.

In his current form, Rooney shouldn't be dropped as he's playing a very important role. He's at the heart of most of our attacks and he's pretty damn good at it. He reminds me of the Rooney of 07/08 which was my favorite Rooney. He doesn't score as much in that position but has more impact on the game. His last 3 games have been his best since that injury in Munich IMO.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Well, we just don't give up do we?

Gotta love our ability to fight to the very end, we've always had it and yet it never ceases to amaze.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Berbatov should have started, Chicharito and Rooney for aways (and if we decide to go with 2 in big games) and Berbatov/Rooney in the home games.

EDIT: MUPPET ALERT!

Apparently Douglas Costa was in the directors box with his representatives at the game yesterday.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Seems to have been a false alarm by the press, who've mistaken some unfortunately similar looking guy for him.

It'll be an interesting summer transfer window, I'm rubbing my hands together in anticipation for it - especially after Fergie revealed he was out to sign some mystery player this summer.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

So Holden is out for six months after the tackle from Evans.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

That's very unfortunate. They both dived in recklessly but Holden got the short end of the stick.

Care to add anything to your analysis? Did you think it was malicious, with intent or just an unfortunate coming together of two committed players?

I think it was massively unnecessary, either could have pulled out and lost nothing from the situation. However, had Holden not been injured, we'd probably hear how good a challenge it was, and how strong Evans is (he did fully take the ball before going through into the player).

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I thought it was similar to Gerrard's tackle on Carrick. Reckless rather than malicious.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

And Carragher's was definitely malicious and not reckless. But Evans' was definitely reckless.

Just funny how people's perspective of things are different depending on how they stand with supporting the player who made the "tackle".

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

apparently Holden ran up to the ref holding his leg (after being stretcherd off)

and he is going to be out for 4 weeks due to a cut near the bone.

but he may make a quick recovery and play a week later

oh wait a minute!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Was a bad tackle and deserved a red. Carraghers was quite clearly nowhere NEAR the ball and was aimed to take out the player.

Hi Jamie, it's nice of you to come on here and tell us exactly what went through your mind at the time.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

stuholden Stuart Holden
Just had a sincere phone call from Jonny Evans wishing me the best in my recovery, def wasn't intentional, just unfortunate part of the game

I'll take his word for it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Nice of him to accept the apology.

I'd imagine if Jonny had deliberately 'reduced' him early in the game for no reason other than to slow him down, Stuart might have been slight less happy to accept it.

Apple, meet orange.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Ah, Jamie has two accounts on here.

Either that or Evo-Web has some fantastic mind-readers.

I'm off to see a Derren Brown show tomorrow, maybe he could get lessons from people in here on how to read peoples minds ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Interesting analysis someone did on squads from weekend:

United: 1st 11 cost £92.3m bench £40.8m Total £133.1m

Arsenal: 1st 11 cost £60.8m bench £5m. Total cost £65.8m

Chelsea 1st 11 cost £166.1m & bench cost £102.4m. Total cost £268.5

citeh 1st 11 cost £181.7m & bench a further £56m. Total £237.7m

Scousers 1st 11 cost £116.1m & bench was £10m. Total £126.1m

Spurs: 1st 11 cost £73m, bench cost £49m. Total £121m.

Gives a good illustration of just what a different league Chelsea and City are in.

Arsenal's spending is ridiculous considering how "successful" they've been when you take into account they've spent half of what other teams have.

And to think some people want Wenger sacked!

Couldn't agree more. His achievements are amazing given what he's had to work with.

not what he's had but rather what he chose to work with.which of cos makes it more remarkable.he buys em cheap and knows exactly when to let em go.other than the disasterous jeffers,r.wright, stepanovs, the losses on reyes, his record is nothing short of excellent.
