Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.
For me, he doesn't remind me of Kaka. Maybe it's the lack of pace. Not that Gourcuff is slow. In fact when at full speed, he does slightly surprise you. But Kaka was
incredibly fast and could run at defenders and cause havoc just doing that alone, like Zidane, this isn't one of Yoann's forte.
Zizou on the other hand, I'll gladly say, he definitely reminds me of and for all the 100's of young talented French midfielders that come through every year and are labeled the 'New Zidane', for me personally, he's the
closest thing I've seen to the bald magician. He may not have the Algerian roots (in fact he doesn't lol) but it's not just his ability either such as vision, passing, technique that he shares with the great one but his
'style' of play, height, physique, tendencies.
Very much reminds me of Zidane. Kaka, I'm not so sure. Someone who is something between Kaka and Zidane though is Javier Pastore who United were actually after before he opted for Palermo and what a great choice that's turned out to be.
Something in between Kaka and Zidane, wow that sounds f'n great eh!

It's true too. Can't say it's not. He's got that extra pace Gourcuff doesn't, but that magic touch and elegance and flair, like Zizou, he would cost a f'n FORTUNE though!
So (and I know I'm playing fantasy football here lol) can he play in a three man midfielder alongside someone like Hargreaves, and still leave room for another attacking midfielder like David Silva, without clashing with him?
From your description, I'm picturing a new Scholes.
A much taller Scholes then? Hmm... yeah maybe. I don't know... I suppose he could do that though that would mean he has quite a lot of defensive responsibilities too right? I mean if it's a 3-man midfield and one of them is gonna be a light-weight attacking midfielder like Silva, that's still far too much defensive work for one man alone in Fletcher or Hargreaves or Carrick, so he would have to help out a
lot. I guess it could be pulled off but I wouldn't think it's the ideal tactical set up and doubt rednose would consider it.
We're not gonna get Silva AND Gourcuff (most likely we won't get either of them) so it wouldn't really matter if they clashed Rune
Lol true. If you get one of them, you should be a happy man.
To be honest, I'm thinking we get Gourcuff to pair him with a defensive midfielder and then let Anderson roam freely in front of both.
EDIT
In a 4-3-3 of course. With Rooney, Nani and Valenica up front.
Since Valencia does track back and help out with defense too unlike Nani, though I'm not so much for this idea, I can see it sorta working. Not a bad idea. And what a season the Ecuadorian had! I'd say he fulfilled every expectation I had of him. Knew he'd be a great signing and I think so far at least, not many can disagree. Great player! One of United's best.
Though honestly, why let Anderson roam freely? It's true that he used to do that with great efficiency at Porto and can still go on to become a great player despite some people doubting him now, but right now him and Yoann look like they're in different classes. I'd let Gourcuff run freely. Give him a free-role, make him your go to guy and watch magic happen after he settles down and has the fans' / manager's confidence. And make sure you're well protected defensively by playing Fletcher and Carrick or Fletcher and Hargreaves behind him in midfield and have Anderson as sub. That's what I'd probably do.
On another note apparently Ozil's contract runs out next summer, So I'd probably wager that Silva would go for 30M compared to Ozil who you could probably get for half of that.
True. Is it a for sure thing that he won't renew with Werder, then? I suppose his performances at the World cup might have a lot to do with that. Anyhow, I'd put him in same category as David Silva as those two definitely have some similarities in my opinion.
