Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Argh, reports coming out that City are going to sign Dzeko. Really thought we might be in for him given McClaren connections and our need for a 'top' signing. Plus, what are they going to do with him? Adebayor/Tevez/Bellamy/SantaClause....ruddy hell.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I thought Dzeko wasn't for sale??

btw, Hernandez got the Work Permit...anyone notice his last two games for Mexico?? how was he?? Better than The One??

With him, how many strikers to they have now?

He barely played against England as Aguirre is basically rotating two teams from his squad but he scored last night against Holland, although I don't know how he played in that match as I didn't see it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He looked reasonably good when he came on against England.
His movement was very good, always on the shoulder of the last defender, and whenever Mexico put a ball in the box he was in the right place. I think he only came deep looking for the ball once, so could be ideal to play in front of Rooney.

My stepdad said that he reminded him of Forlan though. Hopefully he meant the Villarreal version!

On a different note, how much of a waste of time is caughtoffside.com? I mean, I like reading the rumour pages, but they spout the biggest pile of BS. The BBC are linking their 'rumours' everyday, and everyday they're claiming that we're after some defender / midfielder for £15-20m. In the last week it's been Lass Diarra, Cambiasso, Muntari, Toure, Van Der Vaart, Cahill, Hangeland, De Rossi... though the most ridiculous one is Ibrahimovic!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I hate silly season, especially with 'news' sites like caughtoffside, goal.com and tribalfootball. It's this wonderful self perpetuating loop, where they make up a story, some 'almost reputable' news source quotes that as a source then it trickles all the way up to the real media.

Last offseason some posters on Redcafe did a test, by creating a post with quotes from Kaka's father saying that he viewed United as a dream, and that the player was already in negotiations.

It took 2 days for it to make the red tops. Behold the power of the internet.

Re: Hernandez - I'm pleasantly surprised by what I've seen. Expected very little, but he is obscenely quick over 5 yards, and seems to get dizzy if he leaves the defender's shoulder. A real in behind player, if you'll excuse the mental image. Took his goal well, while the header was easy, he absolutely tore away form his marker to be in that much space. Hard ot judge him in the Mexican team, as their tactic appears to be pass sideways, pass sideways, pass sideways, pass down the wing, pass back to full back, pass sideways, pass sideways, pass back to keeper, pass to other full back, repeat. I think they had their first attempt on goal in about the 73rd minute against Holland.

Really good at keep ball though.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I didnt see much of his but I noticed he seemed just a little too short to get on the end of some of the balls that were thrown in his direction. Other than that he seemed alright. My only worry is that if he's gonna play alongside Rooney, surely Rooney's gonna have to start dropping back again like he used to, which means he'll get fewer goals.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

You shouldn't expect much from him to be honest, He'll be joint 4th choice with Macheda or Owen.

I remember the Kaka story, was brilliant that and it made it all the way to SAF

If theirs one thing so far I've enjoyed is that I haven't for a while is unlike Liverpool and Arsenal were not too concerned about the possibility of any of our lot leaving.

(Cue Vidic agreeing to sign for Real in a day or two)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He would be a good addition especially for free.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

i've been hoping for that since the end of the season....i doubt that will happen.....

but then, honestly, i don't see which big signing we could do...It is much like us to lock something down before the World Cup, but since all the participants are already focused on WC, i doubt any will be available to fly to Manchester for a medical...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Agree - if we were doing business before the world cup, I think it would have to be done by now. As it stands, doesn't look hopeful.

That said, Oli Kay from the Times said on his webchat thing yesterday that he thought Joe Cole might have already agreed to join, but can't until his contract is done on July 1st. I'd take him, but not the marquee signing most fans are hoping for.

Problem is that the market is just well and truly f*cked at this stage. Unless a player is focused on history/reputation, we're not going to be able to compete with Barcelona (how many first XIs do they need?) Real Madrid (who needs sensible finances when you've got unlimited, payment free debt at your fingertips?) Chelsea (who just won the double and have stackloads of dosh) and Man City (who are the mercenary's club of choice).

The numbers being bandied about are just stupid. £50m for Aguero? Yeah, thanks but no. £35 for Di Maria? Seriously? If that's what the above 4 clubs continue to pay for players then we might as well give up now, because no one else can afford that. Yes, I know Berbatov was a waste at £32m, but at least he was proven in our league and wanted to join. The money I hear about young kids in a different league who may or may not be one-season wonders is just shocking.

I mean, yes Hernandez/Diouf might amount to nothing, but at £6-7m it's not the end of the world. One of these big money signings will be a huge flop, and we can't afford to 'lose' £20m these days.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

A deal can be done at any time. they don't need to come to Manchester for a medical yet the hard and most important bit is when a "A has fee has been agreed to sign player X" is announced after that the formalities are done later.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'm in the rare number of Berba-supporting United fans, so hope he stays. That 'rumor' if it's the one I think is a creation of caught-offside. Pretty sure we stick with him for one more season. Not like anyone will be giving us a huge offer!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It's best to stick with him. Like I said before, we'd be lucky to get back half of what we spent, so in that case we might as well keep him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

All he needs is a confidence boost and some backing from the fans.

And some new batteries, though maybe he will try a little more next season, I guess in Europe and poorer teams you can stroll around and score the occasional good goal and look good, but when you're not scoring and your still looking like you're in 2nd gear, you just look like a knob in the speedy Prem...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

As much as most of us rate him, he'll need to hit the ground running this season. With Rooney likely to be rested for a few games after the World Cup (like we usually do) it'll be up to him & Owen to lead the line...

I believe Sir Alex has mentioned that his WC lads will be given a break for the whole of August.

We need to keep Berbatov for now.He needs to hit the ground running off the start this time round or his out by the next transfer window.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Players are dropping like dead flies...sometimes I wonder what makes them so brittle or issit just a case of bad luck?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

In a weird way, I think this will make him a better player.

Na it could potentially derail the lad, he's a confidence player and he's been in great form recently, taking that into the World Cup could have helped him up it a notch or two.

This will hurt his confidence which will effect his performances.
