Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It's probably because players that we get linked to in the rumours section of the website are automatically spawned profiles for some strange reason.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yep its just a old glitch. Personally I think Ibra's one of the best players in the world. He's just a machine in Serie A and very comparable to how Ronaldo's been in the Premiership over the last 2 seasons. I think if he ends up in the PL or La Liga where theirs more exposure he'd be named along with Ronaldo/Messi/Kaka.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I guess we'll never know with Ibra because I don't see him going to Spain or England.

Not that the Serie A isn't a good league, it really is and it's very underestimated at the minute because of whats happened in the last ten years or so, but it's not on a par with La Liga or the Premier League.

Maybe he should stay where he is cause he's constantly showing how fantastic he is in Italy without much presure?

Not on par with PL and La Liga in terms of what? Because as far as quality goes, Serie A has much more quality throughout the league than either of the two.

Yeah, its certainly true. I only realised now (after playing some FM, lol) that if you actually look at all the teams, all of them have a great player and only a few are considered "easy". While in EPL or Liga you can only expect the Big teams to do well. Spain its just about Real, Barca, Atleti, Valencia in England ManU, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal. While in Italy you have to look out for Milan, Inter, Juve, Fiorentina, Roma, Udinese, Napoli, Sampdoria, Genoa, Lazio, Palermo. All of them have enough quality to be in any of the first 4 spots, but not all of them fulfil their potential, but that's normal in this game.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The top quality teams in Italy aren't as good as the top of the pile teams in England and Spain, and thats been proven over the last few years, that's all I meant.

And Ibra has proven he can do it against the top Italian teams, but not others.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Big rumours flying around that we will finalise this transfer window by wrapping up deals for Samuel Etoo and Douglas Costa.

I'd be more realistic and bid for Ashely Young if he is really available.
Young, english,a winger with one of the most highest assist stats in the Prem...ouh yah, loves the number 7 too.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He's overrated though. He can be effective at times but he was completley anonymous for Villa in the second half of last season. Their massive slump in form coincided with Laursen getting injured and Young's disappearing act.

I'd be happy with Eto'o and Costa, although I'm not sure we need another striker who will demand to play every match.

If Hargreaves is gonna be fit, I think the current squad plus the 3 additions we've had is fine otherwise we need another destroyer in midfield.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We'll see but I think our squad is well balanced right now. Eto'o is probably along with Torres the best CF out their but that would mean shifting Rooney left which I rather not have. Douglas Costa? Seen a 10 minute YouTube video of him looking good but thats about it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Well Hargreaves isn't going to be fit for the first part of the season is he?

Fletch and Carrick in midfield from the off then.

Yeah that's what I mean, with Rooney, Berbatov and Owen as our main strikers plus Welbeck and Kiko for backup we've got a pretty good blend. Eto'o like you say is one of the best strikers in the world and signing him would tip the balance and mean either unhappy players, Wayne out of position or a change of formation. Costa I don't mind signing because he's clearly talented and would be eased into the team as slowly as he needs to be.

Saying that, SAF could have some radical formation change planned involving Rooney, Berbatov and a finisher like Owen or Eto'o, some sort of 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 and then using 4-4-2 against other teams, as Valencia would fit into all of these so his signing wouldn't be redundant.

Well Hargreaves isn't going to be fit for the first part of the season is he?

Yeah this is what I'm worried about. Fletcher can't play every game and at the minute he's the only one capable of breaking up play and starting attacks.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If he's given the freedom to go forward, then he might pop up with some goals, like he did at the start of last season.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Hargreaves is on the Asia tour so I think he's fine. What would you lot think of a Xmas tree Formation?

--Fletcher--Carrick--Anderson/Valencia
------Berbatov-----Rooney------
-------------Owen/Eto'o--------

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Could work but not sure Valencia would do well there although it would suit the abundance of central midfielders we have and Rafael/Brown and Evra could provide some width.

Alternative formation:

---Carrick - Fletch/Hargo-----
Valencia--Berba--Rooney
-------Eto'o/Owen-------------

Nani,Obertan, Tosic and Welbeck can change with Valencia and Rooney, Rooney could play where Berba is, both could play in the most forward position too, plus Giggs, Anderson etc in midfield.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Don't want a Christmas tree formation if we've signed Valencia for a bit of natural width, plus it means shifting Rooney out of position when he clearly needs and deserves to be played where he wants.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Eto'o would be a class signing, the bits ive seen of Douglas Costa look good too plus another left foot wouldnt go a miss.

A signing in the mould of De Rossi/Cambiasso would be awesome!, wont happen though!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We've lost two great players and we still have a problem trying to fit all out remaining best players into a working formation.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'm not worrying yet. I'll be worrying when Rooney's back on the wing again.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I am not a fan of the christmas tree formation. It cuts out our wing play and expose our fullbacks. We also need 3 natural central midfielders to get it to work.I say bring back the 4-4-2 or continue our CL trophy winning 4-3-3 formation.

I dont think Sir Alex will agree sticking up Rooney up front as an out and out striker.I can recall raving news when we first stuck Rooney as a free roaming forward from the left side ala Ronaldinho.Even Rooney was producing the goods then.I am sure Sir Alex will continue playing him there from time to time...he is the boss after all,he dosent need to listen to the media.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

You dont have to listen to the media, but atleast listen to the player himself who has always said he wants to play in the center. His goals for England prove it still works.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He said that before many times yet he went on to sign new players so as say wouldnt put it past him having trick up sleeve.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Hmm... I agree he may have something up his sleeve. Bryan Robson said something about SAF wanting 4 main strikers and that Welbeck and Kiko aren't ready yet, but then again he could know as much as us.

I think we'll sign Costa if we can agree a decent price but not sure about Eto'o.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I really don't see us buying Eto'o, just doesn't seem like a signing we'd make at all, and then it'd upset anything to do with Rooney and Berbatov.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Were not signing Eto'o thats for sure know I think. I doubt were signing anyone to be fair. Surprised Owen got "#7" but if SAF thinks he's the right man for it then fair enough.

Valencia--Carrick-Anderson-Nani
-------Rooney---Berbatov-----
