He's Welsh, which is part of Britain...

hargreaves was born in calgary, canada
His nationality is English, so it counts.

u purchased carrick from us so technically i consider him ours
I think you'll find you bought him from West Ham...

defoe 1st became good with us so he counts as ours.
Also from West Ham (and poached from Charlton)...

welbeck isnt even in your b team let alone 1st team, also northern irish doesnt count evans doesnt count.
Welbeck is part of the first team. NI is part of Britain, so wrong again.

campbell isnt wanted by anyone so he doesnt count either. nd rooney is too angry and looks like shreck so im not sure about him
Campbell is wanted by several teams and has a reasonable £6m tag. Just because Spurs wasted their chance with him doesn't make him unwanted.
Rooney is England's number 1 striker, so I haven't got a scooby as to why you aren't sure about him.

I don't even know why I'm getting in a row with you. You labelling a coloured child as Tim Henman in your avatar just about sums you up.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Goddamnnit...i came here looking for insider news and all i see is this Polsky posting like hes on some strange weed. What have you been smoking Polsky?

Any news on Gabby Obertan? Has he officially signed for us?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

scholes in his prime was way better than alonso is now, pirlo is the only one that you could say is better but they're both great.

alonso is better than carrick slightly i would say but the reason we dont miss him when hes out is because we have scholes in there to replace him. when alonso is out lucas is in his place, that'll have a big effect on any team.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Any news on Gabby Obertan? Has he officially signed for us?

A bit of info on him, Laurent Blanc has said that he needs to get over psychological issues if he's to be a success:

The future of Manchester United's Portuguese winger Nani appears increasingly uncertain with the club expected to complete the £3m signing of 20-year-old France Under-21 international Gabriel Obertan today.

Obertan, a tall, rangy winger who can operate down either flank and at centre-forward, has been the focus of interest from Premier League clubs for the past three years and is expected to arrive on a four-year contract at Old Trafford with a recommendation from his club manager at Bordeaux, the one-time United defender Laurent Blanc.

Obertan's trickiness on the left flank presents more competition for 22-year-old Nani, who did not develop as United might have hoped last season. Zoran Tosic, another left winger signed by United from Partizan Belgrade in January, has not as yet demonstrated the physical presence to stamp his mark at United. Antonio Valencia's £17m arrival from Wigan suggests he will regularly take a right-sided role with Obertan on the left.

At 6ft 2in, Obertan looks to have the requisite strength with plenty of step-overs and general tricks to go with it. He demonstrated his class with his goal for France Under-21s against England at Nottingham Forest's City Ground in April and is also remembered vividly by Irish fans who saw their Under-21s demolished almost single-handedly by Obertan 18 months ago. Chelsea's France scout Guy Hillion recommended the player to Luiz Felipe Scolari but the Blanc connection helped seal the United deal.

That said, Blanc has admitted his surprise that a club of United's stature had come in for Obertan and added that the youngster needed to improve in a number of areas if he is to be a success at Old Trafford following an indifferent second half to last season on loan at Lorient. He scored just once in 15 appearances.

"I was surprised too, but it is an unexpected chance for him to play with one of the best clubs in the world," Blanc said. "Manchester United have been tracking him for a long time. They certainly hope to advance him, something that Bordeaux and Lorient have failed to do. He has the potential, but he must overcome psychological and mental challenges so he can express his true value."

Obertan arrives in confident mood, having been named Most Valuable Player at last month's Toulon international youth tournament where France finished runners-up to Chile.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I just read that too Rune.Almost forgot that Kleberson did came in with Ronaldo back then.I kinda agree with him on that article. He could have been very useful too us if he had better luck and less injuries. He did score a few goals if memory serves me right.

Jamesy...when we got Ronaldo back then,he was thin as well.He bulked up well with the right conditioning and training on becoming the world's best. With top training facilities and methods along with top coaches at United...Gabriel Obertan has every chance to turn out like how Ronaldo did...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Watch this youtube video I post below...can really tell how fast this Obertan kid is,his body posture is almost upright at full speed.Kinda like how Thierry Henry runs at defenders. He features mostly on the right side in this game and according to reports,he single handedly tore apart the young england team, scored a goal too

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

A shame he won't take part in the pre-season tour. I wanted to see what he is capable of.

I've been pleased with the three signings so far. Nothing fancy, but I think the team is good enough to retain the title, even with no Ronaldo.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It's also on our official site:

Obertan Signs

Sir Alex Ferguson has made Bordeaux's Gabriel Obertan United's third signing of the summer, after the promising young Frenchman signed a four-year deal at Old Trafford.

The 20-year-old's contract keeps him at Old Trafford until at least June 2013, and Sir Alex revealed Obertan, who can play in a variety of attacking positions, is a player whose progress he has followed for some time.

"Gabriel is a player we have tracked for a few years now, but because of his educational programme our efforts to get him here have always been delayed," the Reds boss told ManUtd.com.

"We are delighted to get him now as he is an exciting prospect. We like to get young players and develop them, and we will see that in Gabriel over the next two years."

Gabriel admits he jumped at the chance to join the Barclays Premier League champions.

“I am very happy to join Manchester United," he told us. "This is a big opportunity for me to play at such a great club. I am very excited to be here and I look forward to proving what I can do."

However, the club has confirmed that due to a slight injury which needs attention, Gabriel will not travel on the pre-season tour.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Another risky signing along with Owen, same applies that the fee isn't much so its one worth taking. I think we might look for one more and that will be that for the summer.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Apparently some Spanish site claims we've signed Eto'o. Would be nice to get one of the best strikers out there.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I would be really disappoinnted if you sign eto'o. I love him. He's mad outside the field (and sometimes inside the field) but he's a beast. I still can't understand why on earth our president and coach want to get rid of him. I don't get it. Really. Arg!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Oh wait, I get it now. But its not funny anymore. :BORED:

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Wow if you thought Obertan and Silvestre had big heads, check this fella out...
