Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

UJ you're right, he's a bit of an idiot for thinking that. He obviously thinks he'll endear himself more to United fans by turning you down but City are still a rival and it's clearly a money driven move. As I said a few weeks ago, he's a mercenary. I would find it harder to take if he went to you lot but at the same time, City are still massive rivals, just not competetively in the league just yet. I'm glad it's over and I'm actually pleased he's gone to be honest, it seemed he was developing a bit of an attitude and it's not good for the team.

Yeh i can see what you mean. I'm glad we're not buying him tbh, don't get me wrong he's a good player, but i put him in the same bracket as Dirk Kuyt, great work rate and stamina, never gives up but doesn't offer enough goals to be considered a top striker

Throughout the whole "saga" i didn't think he'd stay at United, simply because of the things he'd said, i.e. "the old man hates me" and his criticism of the way the club is run, he said something like 'when you don't agree with how a club is run it's difficult for you to stay' (i'm paraphrasing of course).

I'm convinced that Ferguson didn't really want him but at the same time he didn't want Liverpool, City or Chelsea to get him. Like when Chelsea signed Wright-Philips because Mourinho didn't want Liverpool to sign him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Offered £25.5m and a five year deal At Utd, He's obviously going for the dosh, Fuck him bring somebody in who wants to play for the club.
Abhi we managed 8 Premier league titles before we got Ronnie, that's 8 more than Steeeviee Meeee Meee Mee. We'll be alright mate.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Hmm, Lyon's special advisor has said that if they received a good offer from us they'd sell Benzema. He also said that they want to sign Lisandro Lopez who'd be a ready made replacement for them so I wonder if this means we'll be in for him?

I think he's already a really good player with the potential to be one of the best strikers in the world considering he's not even 22 til the end of this month. He's strong, quick, technically good, a great finisher with both feet and not bad with his head, the only thing is whether Fergie wants to push Kiko and Welbeck on rather than buy a replacement for Tevez. We need goals from somewhere now though with Carlos and Ronaldo leaving so I wouldn't be surprised if we bought another forward.

Exciting times ahead.

I'm sure you will challenge under Ferguson, I've already said that much.

It was slightly tongue in cheek, seeing as how confident YoungGun was to say Liverpool won't be challenging next season.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I doubt we'll sign a big name player like Benzema or Villa because we hardly ever do under Ferguson.

I think we'll sign someone like Valencia.

We tend to make stars not buy them.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

it would be nice to have benzema because hes such a talent but what would happen with rooney and berbatov if we sign another big name striker? is ferguson gonna keep putting rooney out on the wing or bench berb? id rather see the rooney/berba partnership develop and put the kids in when we need fresh legs.

Yeah that is true but then Benzema still has a way to go before he's considered a proper big name, he's still so young. Anyway, the only reason I mentioned him was because of what the Lyon director said but it'll be interesting to see what we do in the market now.

If we were willing to pay up for Tevez that seems to me like SAF wants three established strikers and that Macheda, Welbeck and co are not quite ready so I assume he'll have a couple in mind who he'll look to sign.

Also, I wonder if Manucho will be staying? I get the feeling he might leave tbh.

Valencia seems to be as good as done deal too.

I didn't say you wouldn't challenge, Im sure you will but you won't be leading the pack like you did this season. will be a 3 horse race im sure (even 4 maybe)

Well if we get Benzema that will be something else :... Valencia seems like he's on the way so I'd be happy with that and I wouldn't rule out us going for someone else on top of 2 of them.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Karim Benzema will be a typical Ferguson signing. His favourite signings are forwards and Benzema is certainly in his bracket.Big,strong, fast and young with killer goal instincts.Since Tevez will be leaving I believe we will hear big news soon about his replacement.

Listening to his agent I think it's more to do with United not treating him well, they did not offer anything for him until the last minute, where other players were all being signed up. TBH I don't think Fergie wants him that much...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If we sign Benzema, he'll be likened and compared to Cantona constantly, wonder how he'd deal with it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Na not really, Berba has more similarities with Cantona. Benzema reminds me of Ronaldo 2002 onwards. No doubt though 4-5 seasons down the line he would look to go to Real though.

Ronaldo has just said the obvious that he wanted to move last summer, Its sad his last game was against Barca. would have been fitting if it had been Chelsea in Moscow.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'm not saying he's more like Cantona than Berbatov, but because he's French, he's a forward, and he'd be playing for us, it'd be inevitable.

I hope if he has he can exert some form of presence on the pitch, and if it's even a quarter of Eric's then he'll be doing well.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'm not sure about Benzema. The guy's got an attitude problem. It also seems to me that he's the kind of player that will want a move to Real in a few years time.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think Man Utd are lacking in the youth department, our own home-grown players, not ones stolen from around the world.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Evans, Welbeck, Fletcher, Brown, O'Shea, Neville, Giggs and Scholes are all part of the current squad. Not many of the biggest sides in Europe can claim that apart from Barca probably.

Why does it matter anyway were their from? Macheda, Ljajic, Petrucci, Dodo, Fabio and Rafael are all our players and all HUGELY talented lads who have a chance of making the big time.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

So I take it I'm the only one worried with what's happened to our squad recently?
I look at the loss of Ronaldo and Tevez and Henry leaving Arsenal comes to mind. As good as the rest of the team was, Arsenal just havent been the same and I think it'll happen to us too. Now we're just a good side with some good players. Cuz its not just the loss of those two players but its come at a time when the likes of Giggs and Scholes have come to the end of their careers. I think we've lost that fear factor.
And when you think about who's out there for us to buy, well theres no one really. Ribery and Villa are bound to go to Madrid at some point, and the rest of the best players in the world are happy at their clubs.
All we can look forward to now is Benzema and Valencia, thats it. We might as well start reading that Michael Owen brochure now.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

what are you on about man? you're so negative.

first of all henry leaving arsenal was the best thing that could have happened to them at the time, that team after henry left was amazing. everyone stepped up and the team played great and was only unlucky not to win the pl, if they didnt sell 2 of their best players in flamini and hleb they probably would have challenged last year as well.

to me ronaldo leaving will take the focus off of one player and give ferguson a chance to create a more balanced side. tevez leaving isnt great but he was never gonna be happy coming off the bench and playing in the carling cup so i dont blame him for leaving.

personally id rather have the focus on rooney and berba, have 2 decent wingers and play some entertaining football then have it unbalanced like it was before.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

And who are those 2 decent wingers? Park and Nani?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

park is decent, nani i think has the potential this season to become one of our best players. valencia will be a good addition to the squad and provide some drive and crosses. tosic looks really good in the u-21 competition, i dont know if anyone else has been watching it but hes been serbias best player in every match.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

IMO, Park and Nani are backups at best (I'm hoping Nani can prove me wrong). Havent seen enough of Tosic and Ljajic to judge them and Fabio is a full back.
The thing with Ronaldo and Tevez (and Rooney and Giggs) is that they play on the wing but can also push up behind strikers or even be target men and because of this, their game and movement is more fluid and harder to predict. Obviously the fact that they're very gifted players also helps too but the point is that they play a more free role and not fixed to their positions like robots.
This is one of the main reasons why I'm a bit upset with the loss of Ronaldo and Tevez cuz its not the players but the style of play that they're taking with them. Now we're gonna stick to a simple 4-4-2 with maybe 4-5-1 in Europe. I doubt we'll see 4-3-3 again (atleast not as effective as it used to be). We just dont have the players for it anymore.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah we haven't got the players right now as those two are going but the transfer window hasn't even officailly opened yet so don't panic too much, SAF's got 2 months to sort something out. You never know he might find a couple of players perfect to fit into a similar system.

Fabio's been playing left side of midfield for the reserves and you must have seen Rafael try to defend ;) maybe they'd both be better of playing further up! :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I dunno about the twins. They're good at attacking but they're more like side midfielders than wingers. They're quick but not the kind of player who'll take on defenders or deliver good crosses consistantly Which is why they're better when running in from deep positions like when they're full backs. Evra's like that too. He's good as a backup for the left wingers when they're outnumbered whilst attacking.

You're right about the transfer window. Sorry for not being a bit more patient, guys. Sir Alex does tend to leave transfers till very late and it'll probably be the same this time too. Its just that there arent many options out there so unless he signs someone who we didnt know was available, I can't see it being someone that will satisfy me.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rune no need to compare to Arsenal... problems run deep atm we`re being labeled a boy band FFS! players now at 30 get kicked out so at 27 most of them looking for new pastures. I hope we will buy players more established 24-28 and kick that boy mentally shite out through the nearest window. Boys for growth is good but when they grow hairs they want trophies and will bugger off

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Not sure why your so worried Rune. Ronaldo is a great player but as usual people step up and we have Rooney who is BPITW material. Tevez if im being honest am glad didn't sign, He's good but wasn't willing to be 3rd choice as he isn't as good as Berba or Rooney. Also means we have an extra 25M to spend.

We still have the best defence in the world bar none. Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra would walk into any team. Rafael will improve as he's only 18 still. Are midfield isn't the best but Carrick is very solid for us then theirs Anderson is another player we have who has the potential to hit the top.

Are Wings do look short at the moment but Nani needs to step up and Valencia is a upgrade on Park. Tosic will play more games and we have a potential star in Ljajic. Fabio's played LM before for us in the reserves and his goalscoring record for a young player is amazing for a Winger/LB.

Not sure how you can say "only Benzema and Valencia" If we can pull them two off I'd be full of confidence going into next season. Benzema is the closest thing to Ronaldo V2.0 (Nothing like a YouTube clip to get you excited :)))

YouTube - Benzema HD

Rune we didn't play 4-3-3 not often at all. Mostly in Europe. It was more the way Ronaldo played that made it look like that due to him being so far forward and not tracking back. Nice Interview by the lad

I think we'll be fine unless we get ridiculous amount of injurires.
