Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Interesting a lot of United fans have a fondness of Milan like myself :)) Forza Milan/Manchester :DD

I think your wrong Rune about us not being able to compete without Ronaldo or Tevez, The thing is people are looking at things the wrong way, We won't be playing like we have for the last 2 seasons which was to get every ounce of briliance out of Ronaldo. Wether this was to play Rooney wide or Berbatov deep it had to be done to get the best out of Ron.

Next season the team will have to be built around Rooney, he will be the one who will have people moved around so we can get the best out of him (I hope this is the case) by playing him behind Berbatov who will be pushed right uptop or a new CF. We were also pretty unbalanced side with Ronaldo by having to play Park on the other flank. We'll go back to a "basic" 4-4-2 with the wingers providing crosses.

I think the only worry I have is the number of goals, I doubt we'll miss Tevez in that department (he did get a few important ones though) as he only managed 3 or 4 in the league last season, Ronaldo's annual 30 + needs to be filled. I think Berbatov and Rooney can both get an extra 5-10 then they did the season before also Ronaldo's freekicks and Pens will be taken by someone else.

Im not to worried :))

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Still think you need a midfielder. I pray that Ferguson doesn't get his dream signing of De Rossi.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Nick Cave has a good point, i can sometimes understand people who pick a foreign team to support, while it is still the act of a glory-hunter (it's rare they pick an unsuccessful team to support) i hate the English ones the most. "Oh i'm from Chester, i support Man Utd but i also support Chester City so you can't call me a glory hunter" What a terrible attitude, these people claim they follow their local side, but clearly they're more interested in clinging to a successful team from hundreds of miles away. :CURSE:

You'll like this then.
I've always been a United fan, and for the last 3 years I've been a proud season ticket holder (for a year or 2 before that I bought tickets from the local supporters club, as my stepdad knows the people who run it).
It's great for when you're on holiday and you have people putting you down because you're not local to the team and they are (was abroad last year and had some gonk tell me & my stepdad that he was a true Red & we weren't just because he lived in Manchester. He soon shut up when he realised he'd never been to OT and we had been going for years).

Before I was lucky enough to get a season ticket, I had one for my 'second' team - Charlton. At the moment I'm in a position that I can afford to have season tickets for both, so as long as the home games don't clash I still go and watch them (if they do I let my mate use my Charlton one).

So for that reason I consider myself an avid fan of both teams, but United will always be my religion.

I had a friend who claimed he supported Liverpool & Kenny Daglish. It was funny how if Liverpool lost he only supported whatever team KD was at. I don't have much contact with them any more, and when I do it's never about football!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

De Rossi = Class. Except that elbow in the world cup. Oh and the penalty miss at OT. Other than that, would be delighted.

However I understand he's Roma through and through, and will never leave. I respect that and hope we don't force the issue.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We won't go after him, Loyal to Roma and is the successor to Totti as captain. I dunno about our CM, its a wierd one. Were well stocked up in their but no one in their is World Class (Scholes was/Anderson maybe in the future) Carrick is vital part of our team and is pretty much cemented and with Hargreaves/Fletcher were sorted IMO.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Football is a team game (especially midfield), it's not just about having great players in each position. Yeah, Liverpool and Chelsea have probably got a better starting midfield man for man but ours is still good and at the end of the day has won titles together and proved to be effective and this is what matters. If we can find a winning combination between them and ride the changes (Giggs and Scholes fading out and Ljajic, Tosic and any other new signing settling in) then there's no reason why we can't keep on winning titles.

That pretty much summed it up for me. The way I see it, calling someone a glory supporter is basically discriminating against people who are either not "fortunate enough" to be born in Manchester, or people who dont have the time or money to go to watch their team play. I mean, there was a story about an Arsenal fan in Kenya who hanged himself after they lost to us in the Champions League last season. Would anyone call him a glory supporter?

I hope you're right but I see things differently. Yes we used to play a system that got the best out of Ronaldo but I dont think we did it for Ronaldo. It was just a system that we tried, and worked, and Ronaldo benefited more than anyone else. I dont think Sir Alex back then would have thought "what system would allow Ronaldo to be more effective?" If he was ever gonna build a system around one player on purpose, it would have been Rooney. Rooney is Sir Alex's golden boy. Sir Alex has always let people close to him know that if he ever had to chose between Rooney and Ronaldo, he would have always gone with Rooney, even at Ronaldo's peak. We only stuck to the system we used because it work pretty damn well and the ammount of goals we scored 2 years ago and our defensive record from last season is proof of that (imagine if we had both the goals and the defence in one season). The lack of goals from last season IMO came from the uncertainty of Tevez and Ronaldo's future and the lack of holding midfielders for most of the season. We always missed atleast one of either Hargreaves, Carrick or Fletcher at some point in the season (have they ever played together in a three man midfield?).
My point is, the system still works as long as you have the right players. Yes it might need a bit more tweaking to accommodate Rooney but the majority of it shouldnt change IMO. There were a couple of games from 2 years ago where Ronaldo was replaced by Park and we were just as effective.
Now the only problem with keeping this great formation is that Ronaldo and Tevez are on their way out, which is why I was saying we need someone like Ribery, Robben, Benzema, etc. Going back to 4-4-2 and not making any major signing would be a "working with what we've got" kind of thing and that sounds too desperate for my liking. We've kept the ball rolling for the last 3 years but now we're looking like we're about to start slowing down.

This is only my opinion and I hope I'm wrong. I'm just telling it how I see it.

BREAKING NEWS - TEVEZ RULES OUT LIVERPOOL MOVE

Good on Carlito to rule out the move knowing the relationship with both clubs, I think the fact he's come out and said this means he's off though. I think he might end up at City though or he might go Abroad

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think he'll either stay or go abroad.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

hopefully returns but i can only seeing it being chelscum or city

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I can't wait for the start of the season, I really can't.

Regardless of who we buy, who the others buy and so on, I just want to see us come flying out of the traps and not dissapoint like the last two seasons.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

yeah i'm same, im really interested in way some teams play, like how chelsea will player under ancelotti, if liverpool will keep up the challenge and obviously the new boys, mostly birmingham, i'm predicting one of the most exciting and closest premier league seasons to date, its wide open imo

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Pool will push us all the way knowing that they came really close last season.Their team will be settled down come next august onwards and it will be a challenge for them.Chelsea will be different I think under Carlo Ancelotti...perhaps no more swashbuckling 4-3-3 for them as they will be looking to control the tempo just like how Milan plays.Honestly I never worry about any other team cept for United.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think Liverpool won't do as good as last season, I think they'll be in the race to some extent but will remain the "darkhorse" behind United and Chelsea.

We'll be joint favourates to win the league with Chelsea I think.

I think him saying this also means that we were actually in for him, meaning we must have more money than people think.

Someone (a well trusted member) on the Liverpoolfc.tv message boards said he has a mate who works at Liverpool (not in the shop or burger bars ) who has told him Liverpool are "for all intents and purposes" now owned by the Kuwait consortium and DIC are also involved, but nothing will be announced until July, giving Rafa the chance to do his dealings in the transfer market first, that way the prices won't fly up to ridiculous levels because as far as everyone is concerned we have very little money.

Someone else has also posted this: "I've just got some info from a friend of mine here in Dubai whose father works for Nasser Al-Kharafi, saying that LFC and him are in negotiations for a proposed ownership change. I'm pretty confident about this information and hope to see our future sorted out quickly."

could be interesting.

So one insider thinks you're owned by one rich arab, and another one thinks you're owned by a different rich arab.

Erm.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

yeah because ronaldo was the only player that won 3 consecutive premier league titles. no one else contributed to that, we'll probably get relegated now hes gone considering how shit we were before he came to the club. :P

Erm...no.

Nasser Al-Kharafi is Kuwaiti, both said it was a Kuwaiti group buying into Liverpool.

well the season before he came we won the league so to say relegated, its hardly gonna happen, top 3 still for sure, just if the squads strong enough, its matter of time

 Another Summer Another "Its our year". Im going to keep that Abhi ;))

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Tevez off to City by the looks, just had his agent on TalkSport...

see i find this puzzling considering he knocked Liverpool back "out of respect for Man Utd".

Was it so difficult to say "because City can pay me ten times more than Liverpool can"?
