Manchester United Thread

Apparently he has the flu, definitely looked off form. To be honest he's not been that bad the past few matches (before today), he's just a winger again, so doesn't make as big a difference in matches. Plus when he plays in front of O'Shea, he's always double/tripled teamed, he's much better with Evra.

But Tosic looked pretty sharp. I think. Can't really tell because Spurs were so sh*t thought.

I can't remember a time this season where he's been even remotely effective in a game. It amazes me that he's scored ten goals.

He wasn't even this bad in his first two seasons. He just does nothing all game, and then when he gets a pass he just passes it straight back, it's a definite sign that he doesn't want to play.

He's not been awesome in any game this season. He's just taking up space on this year, and it's annoying the hell out of me.

But if he has to be human to have faults, does that make Messi inhuman? I've seen Messi in nearly every game he's played this year and he's never out of the game, always brilliant. If Ronaldo can't do that he's not gonna continue to be named amongst the best players in the world.
 
But thats the thing? Messi hasnt had a stop start season like Ronaldo, Last season the two were both opposite, Messi was injured for a couple of months and the season passed him by while Ronaldo broke endless records. And this "Poor" Season has got Ronaldo 11 goals and 9 assists! So think what he can acheive when he hits full form. Also it helps to now that Messi is the better player to be fair.
 
It was nice to see Ronaldo always encouraging Fabio on Saturday. He was awesome & looked like he'd been playing there for years.
Welbeck did well too, though he looked knackered after about an hour! He has a knack of whipping good low crosses in too, so I can see us converting another young striker into a midfielder (Scholes was the last one).

All these injuries are worrying - though at least we have a big enough sqaud this time around. I can still see us struggling at WBA though...

I don't see how it can, unless you mean we now get a week's rest before WHU match. It's going to be too early for some of our injuries to be back :(

well, now we play before the lfc chelsea game, a good result is gonna put even more pressure on the dippers....

and also everton may have one eye on the replay with lfc, moyes may not risk players...

and as you say we get abit more rest before playing the hammers..

Interesting article re: United and lfc from David James in yesterdays observer:

For us players the Man United v Liverpool rivalry transferred to the national team. At training camps the Man U boys would sit on one dinner table, Liverpool on another. And never the twain would meet. Those boys were so close, on and off the field, they wouldn't allow anyone else into their group. It was maddening. Worse still their team was winning everything. It made everyone else jealous. Only Nicky Butt was considered alright. He was a rebel because he was friends with Robbie Fowler and Steve McManaman. He was the only exception to the Man Utd rule.

Sir Alex Ferguson had created a group of players that formed the nucleus of his team's success. As a result they had a competitive edge that was unheard of in any other club side. If you ever saw them in a game of piggy in the middle you would understand what I am talking about. The whole point of that game is to work together as a team to avoid going in the middle. Well the Man United boys changed the meaning of that game. Their aim was to stitch each other up and put one of their team-mates in the middle. It was an England training exercise and the rest of us were playing, but as far as they were concerned it was just a competition between themselves.

At the time it was difficult to understand. We perceived it as showing off – Liverpool players protected each other rather than trying to stitch each other up. We saw them as a different breed. It was only as I got older and matured that I reflected more on it. Maybe their behaviour explained why United succeeded where Liverpool did not.

What's wrong with Fletch?

I'll be shocked if Scholes starts again on Tuesday. He didn't have the legs to make it through saturdays 'training session' paced game, I hope he's not risked on Tuesday, and definitley not as a midfield two. I'm hoping we have Fletcher, Carrick and Giggsy in midfield, with the back four as yours and Tevez, Ronnie and Berba up top.

Who are WBA missing?
 
Ideal would be a really early goal and then sit back and pick them off.
I can see us almost gambling and racing out of the blocks to get ahead. We can then control the game with our passing

Wow...I didnt think our boys were any 'different' from the others...Now this was when Nicky Butt was a starter in the England side rite...thats ages ago..wonder what is it like now with Fabio Don Cappello in charge...
 
No wonder England didn't Win anything with dicks like that!!

how could the manager let that happen - obviously something should have been done to make the whole England team bond together.
 
In the midst of our injury crisis,I am quite surprised that Sir Alex didnt recall some of his loanees back.

Bolton are seriously looking at Miguel Veloso...I'd be gutted if he moved there because we have been looking at him and at 12 mill,I think he is a bargain.We got no natural cover for Hargreaves for the rest of the season...and I think we should sign one.
 
I can see why he hasn't - we're pretty stocked on midfield, so when the injured players are back it'd be difficult to justify having him. That or we'd probably have to sell one of Carrick, Hargo or Anderson, and I'd prefer to keep them and see him move to Bolton instead of Chelsea or Liverpool.
Weren't we on the brink of signing him before we got Hargreaves?

It is suprising that SAF hasn't recalled Danny Simpson. A decent full back (with EPL experience)who can play on the left or right is just what we could do with at the moment...
 
I would just get rid of Hargreaves to be honest. While we're waiting for him to return we're a player short. It's not worth the risk.
 
Hargreaves cost us £18m, no way are we going to offload him for nothing without knowing if he'll come back. He's quality when fit, definitely close to if not in the first XI. We should at least give him a chance. He seems like a great pro and should rehabilitate well. Just seems a waste to get rid after all the work we did to get him in the first place.
 
Veloso is overrated, Theres a reason Europes elite are not touching him and he's on his way to Bolton. Hargo is a good player and were not really that short in the middle at the moment anyway?

All them are available apart from Ando but he'll be back in before the Inter game. So I wouldnt say were short there, Were pretty much covered everywhere, Its pretty rare to have 10-12 squad players out and we can still line-up one of the strongest sides in the world.
 
Hargo is awesome when he's fit. I hope he recovers well from his injury and holds down a starting place. Remember the Hargreaves-Anderson central midfield partnership at the start of last season?

Veloso is an absolute cry baby, like Sportings Coach had no1 to use as a left wing back and he had to put Veloso there, well he was atrocious to say the least and after the game went to the press talking sh*t about the coach and as had several "fights" with him cous the lil baby thinks he is too good to be in Sporting and deserves more. But yeah he is really overrated all through Europe atm. Your better with Hargo, even if he is a bit injury prone.
 
5-0 Get in!! Ronaldo gets a brace (Still of form though) Berbatov was out of this world, Simply class. Park was quality aswell.

Hopefully know we'll hit form aswell, 3 points clear. Lets hope for a draw with Chelsea and Liverpool :))
 
I didn't manage to see the game but it obviously looks like we've finally battered someone, and regardless of the opposition it's always nice to see us do that again.

Hopefully we can get a good run of results now with plenty of goals.
