Good result but at what cost...Are injury list is getting worryingly long...:ANX:

Rio
Rooney
Rafael
Anderson
Evans
Brown
Hargreaves
Evra

All possible starters

I didn't realise Anderson was stretchered off after the final whistle, I hope it's not too serious.

Let's hope the other injuries are minor, and that Rio will be ready for the weekend, otherwise I can see us chancing Neville at CB again (he's crap there) with Fletcher covering RB...

I'd rather bring in a youth teamer who actually is a CB and put gary at RB. Fletcher is utterly awful there defensively.

Can't believe how many random injuries we got last night. Did they forget to warm up!?!?

---------Amos---------
-Rafael-Rio-Evans-Evra-
----Anderson-Hargo-----
-Giggs----------Nani---
----Rooney---xxx-------

So I'm missing another striker, but how good an 'injured XI' is that! Impressive!

Neville is now a doubt for the weekend, so Fabio might be given his debut.
Our back line could be:
Fletcher Vidic O'Shea Fabio

I think we'll have to go for the 'You score one and we'll score 2' mentality for a while!

Nah he didnt get off the bench, mainly due to other substitutions being forced due to injuries.

The injuries are getting ridiculous. If we play that back four against Tottenham I wouldn't be suprised if we shipped a few goals. Hopefully Darren Bent will be in the form he was against Portsmouth and we'll get off lightly.

The injury list is just amazing. I mean, this is how I think of it:
Okay so Rafael is injured.
Cool, play Gary Neville there.
Can’t, he’s injured too.
Okay, well Wes Brown was great last year, he’ll do fine.
Nope he hasn’t played this year and is still out.
Wow, well it’s a waste but stick Hargreaves in, he’s quality.
And out for the whole year.
Alright, don’t like him or rate him much, but O’Shea can do the job.
No, he’s filling in for the injured Evra on the left.
Wow that’s really unlucky! Okay, well surely one of the 3 centre backs can do a job, young Johnny Evans can come in.
Nadda he’s hurt, and would have played centrally anyway because Rio is out.
Youth prospects?
We loaned and sold them all off. (Catchcart, Simpson, Bardsley, McShane)
So Fletcher it is?
Yep. Fletcher it is.

I'm really happy for the Carling Cup team...They deserved to win it.I really hope the injuries are just knocks that would ease off.Rafael was a monster last nite but was taken off with precaution as he just felt a slight hamstring pull.We should do fine.

Come to think of it,thats at least 3 key/first eleven players out for us...Rio,Evra and Rooney...if you bring in Brown and Hargreaves into the equation,it totals to 5.I'm not too sure if other teams would do well as we did if they got 3 to 5 key players out.Just my two cents.

Yep we are pretty fucked with injuries but are sqaud is THAT good I think we'll cope ok. Rio will be back im sure and Rooney recovers quickly when out normally so I'd expect him to be ready for Everton along with Ando and Rafael. Brown the week after

O'Shea Rio Vidic-Fabio
Ronaldo-Carrick-Scholes-Park
------Tevez---Berbatov

For now...

SAF gave a press conference this morning with news on our injuries.

Those out are:

Anderson (ankle - 3 weeks)
Nani (groin - 1 week)
Evans (ankle - 3 weeks)
Park (hamstring - couple of weeks)
Rafael (hamstring - 3 weeks)
Rooney
Rio
Wes

He hinted that our back line could be Fletcher Neville Vidic O'Shea, though Fabio & Eckersley are also in the squad.
Rio & Wes could be back in time for the Everton game on Monday week.

It could be an interesting scoreline tomorrow!

I'm guessing our line up tomorrow might be:

Fletcher Neville (no!) Vidic O'Shea
Ronaldo Carrick Gibson Tosic
Berbatov Tevez

Bench: Scholes, Gibson, Fabio, Welbeck, Foster

Presumably Giggs will be involved tomorrow, as part of a serious midfield 3 that will be expected to provide a lot of support to our defense. The thought of Defoe running onto a ball over the top being chased by Gary Neville doesn't fill me with confidence.

I also think Harry is talking out of his a$$, and Spurs will field a strong squad tomorrow.

No doubt we're up against it, but this is what the boys get paid for. We'll have to hope that Ronaldo finds his shooting boots, this will be the kind of game where we'll have to take our chances.

 was thinking that... I think our line up will be...

------------VDS-----------
Neville--Vidic--O'Shea--Fabio
Ronaldo--Scholes-Fletcher-Giggs/Tosic
--------Berbatov--Tevez------

Hopefully we get a win but I'd rather lose then get a replay, would really screw us over with our already overflowing fixture list.

-------------VDS-----------
Fletcher--Neville--Vidic--O'Shea
Ronaldo--Scholes-Giggs--Nani
--------Berbatov--Tevez------

maybe switch nani with gibson for more defensive cover

I think all the injuries sound as though they will be all be back in a similar amount of time

It will be like having a new squad when they all come back!

True, but that will also mean having 4-5 first teamers needing a few games to get back to speed..

Evra, Rooney, Rio and Brown may all be available for the Everton game with Nani and Park back before maybe.

If those 4 were available, I think it would be best to start with Rio and Brown and bring on Evra and Rooney into the game later on. We don't need those two to attack but we definately need Rio and Brown if we want a tight defence.
We've equalled the clean sheet record but I'm desperately hoping to top it by going even further.

I'd start with this line up tonite.

-------------VDS--------------
-Fletch--Vida---OShea---Fabio-
-----------Carrick------------
-----Scholes------Giggs-------
------------------------------
--Tevez-----Berba------Tosic--

Tried and proven 4-3-3 formation from last season. The key to this formation is the 3 man midfield.Carrick in his natural role with Giggsy and Scholes playing ahead of him.Debut game for Tosic and Fabio at OT wouldnt be a bad thing, not playing out of position for both either.

The only doubt there is Tosic. How do we know if he can play there? We know he's a wide player but we don't really know how much of a forward he is.
A more suitable replacement would be Ronaldo who you've (shockingly, lol) forgot about.

Apparantly he had a flu, only played due to lack of cover. Extremely harsh to say he's the least effective ever! He's not at his best but he doesnt make mistake's and even if he does nothing you can bet teams will have 2-3 players mark him and give our other players more space. He needs to find a balance between 07/08 and 06/07.

If it wasn't for last year, people wouldn't be questioning him.

Fabio and Welbeck looked pretty good yesterday. If Welbeck can start to shoot quicker he could become awesome. Very quick feet and good balance. Stuck out on the right, too.

Yes Maru,I was quite impressed with Welbeck too...the commentator said that he is used to play wide right too during his academy days at United. He showed flair and vision too last night,in my opinion,he is more effective wide right than as a centre forward.

Fabio is as every bit as impressive as his twin Rafael...but too bad,Pat Evra has made that leftback berth as his home.

Tosic looked good too playing wide left.Havent seen much but his touches and runs are those of a typical classic winger.

Tevez was brilliant, never stopped running and deserved a goal. Carrick and Scholes were great in the centre, dictating the pace of the game. I was very impressed by Fabio until his injury and Welbeck had a good first half. Tosic did alright when he came on, showed a few good touches and retained the ball quite well. Ronaldo was anonymous, never had much space to run into and didn't look like doing much, whether it was because of his illness or not.
