Manchester United Thread

Are you serious? He's missed loads this season, 19 out of 20 times he hits the wall. It's such a hit and miss technique, most of the time it's piss poor and a waste (especially with Berba, Tevez & Rooney who can also hit them) but when they go in they look superb. Sorensen's attempt at a save yesterday was pathetic anyway.

His first could have been saved but his second definately wasnt a "hit and miss" technique.

Agree with Jumbo on this one, They look good when they go in but far to many end up hitting the wall, We need more variation with Tevez, Berba Nani and Rooney having there turn at times.

The thing is it's a unique way of striking the ball, and only seems to be effective from about 30 yards. Anything further out and he tries to put more power into it, which stops it from swerving so it hits the wall... anything nearer and there isn't enough time for it to dip.
Mind you that was probably the first game where most of his free kicks were on target, so I think he might have adjusted his technique a bit.

YoungGun - we also have Hargreaves, Scholes, Carrick, Giggs & Anderson (well, he seems decent in the warm ups anyway!) who aren't too bad at free kicks either ;)

Ronaldo takes them all because we have the best chance of scoring when he does. Its that simple. Giggsy has good technique but no power, so unless his free kick is aboslutely perfect it'll be saved. Tevez doesn't get any chances, Rooney is crap and Anderson hit his last free kick out for a throw in. Ronaldo can also curl, he scored one last season that way as well as on Saturday.

Personally I think it's more a factor of ref's not bothering to move the wall back to its 'real' distance. His technique requires alot more space to get up then a curling attempt, and so the full 10 yards really is needed. But no referee in England at hte moment seems to care at all about walls this season, so he's suffering.

It's not actually unique. Guys like Juninho and Del Piero have been using it for years with great success. ;)

Hmmm...I disagree, Juninho's technique is different to Ronaldo's and Del Piero's is. Juninho and Ronaldo's are similar looking but Ronaldo's technique is different.

I'm guessing you didnt see the City match then

That was almost good. He rightly made them retake it three times, but then on the third the wall rushed out again and the ref just gave up and let it go. It infuriates me, all refs need to do is give some yellows. it's so simple.

STOP talking about Ronaldos free kick, hes a master at those and dont think cause he hit the wall the team need rotation, Ronaldo bring fear and pressure to the other team when he play, taking free kick is an exemple, I mean he hit 2 free kicks in last game and people still complain, without Ronaldo, No team fear Man U. he bring pressure and fear to the opponents. thats why he take free kicks.

STOP talking about Ronaldos free kick

It's because he hasn't been consistent with them. Out of all the free kicks he takes, quite a lot don't even hit the target. The game against Stoke was different though as out of 4 free kicks, 2 went in and the other 2 were on target. And there was variation, ie his second goal which was more about placement.

We were mentioning other players that are equally good at free kicks. Even when David Beckham played for us, Giggs, Irwin, Scholes etc took and scored a couple to keep it unpredictable...

Surely if Aston Villa would like to be considered as one of the big 4, they should try and play like the home team, against a weakened United team, rather than defend for 85 minutes? Their one good chance seemed like the game plan - play 10 men behind the ball and thump it to the really quick guy up front.

I was really looking forward to today's game, but Villa didn't come to play, they came not to lose. Fine if you want to be mediocre, but if you want better than that, then you have to play some football.

Two other bits, I would have booed Ronaldo tonight. He was disgraceful.
And how much did the Sentanta commentators want Villa to win? I counted 23 times they've now mentioned the 'contentious penalty' issue int h second half. That's once every other minute, for the entire time since it happened!!!

We missed Berbs today, Overall it was tough after having the pointless friendlies but you have to feel a chance wasted to close the gap :((

Fucking useless to be honest.

Ronaldo was a liability, Rooney did fuck all and should be shot for that miss, Tevez was willing as ever but hes pissed off and completely off form.

Midfield did nothing, defence was solid for the most part, and it definitely wasn't a penalty.

Just really, really frustrating considering the rest of the days results.

Really disappointed with todays performance especially with Ronaldo. We looked bereft of ideas. Once again i dont understand what O'Shea was doing in there ahead of someone like Rafael. You might use the 'hes more experienced' excuse yet hes still dodgy in defence and offers nothing in attack which im sure Rafael would have. I still think we're mising Queiroz more than we think.

Interesting.
Manchester United have Signed Adem Ljajic and Zoran Tosic from Partizan Belgrade for a combined fee of 9 Million Pounds. Ljajic is dubbed 'The New Kaka' and Tosic is known as bambi with is availability to play on eithe flank!! 100% Confirmed and Official

Yeah, usually if we make a 100% confirmed and official signing it shows up first on our website, like the nani/anderson thing. Either way, if we did sign those types of players, looks bleak for Ronnie staying...

Dont think they will end up Ronaldo's replacements anyway so I wouldnt look at it like that. Ronaldo will stay a little longer, depends on Real and what they want to do. I can see the Benzema war starting at the end of the season.

If we wanted Benzema, surely Rooney/Berba would have to go? I already think Tevez's days are numbered (please please please don't let him go to Liverpool) but Benzema wouldn't be a third striker.

I know, I think Tevez's days are numbered aswell :(( but Benzema is such a talent that I can see SAF going for him, He's such a talent and will bound to become BPITW one day. Good chance we'll Tevez, Manucho and Campbell may all leave and were still not sure on Ronnie's future

Holy cr*p, Fergie apologised for Rooney's dive tonight. Never ever thought I'd see a manager do that:
""I have seen it and he has apologised to me. I think he has been watching (Robert) Pires too much.

"At least Wayne apologised to the Villarreal players. You would never see Pires do that."

Quite what Pires has to do with it I don't know, but given his attempt at earning a penalty in the first hafl, I kind of get (Pires basically stopped moving towards the ball, started stumbling, waited for Rio to basically nudge him, then went to ground).

Weird game. We needed a draw, but outplayed Villareal so thoroughly, felt like we should have won. They were sh*t.

Rooney should not have to apologise to anyone, especially Villarreal! Their players are just as bad. I remember their 'keeper, Viera, feigning injury against us a few seasons back.
