Manchester United Thread

The ref has done all he can to make thi close...writing at 4-3. Every single 50/50 gone against us, and Turne,r ona yellow deliberately took down Carrick when through on goal, but cause he has no balls no second yellow, could have been a straihgt red!

That shouldn't have been so difficult. Lazy, lazy second half. Had chances to kill the game (thougha 3 goal lead should do that) but a combination of great finishing/taking chances from Hull and sloppy play...scary stuff. I can almost guarantee if the penalty had been Ronaldo running with someone at us up 4-2 ref wouldn't have given it. I was appalled by his display. He better make a note of how Turner's challenge on Carrick didnt' warrant a yellow card, and the number of lite touches giving free kicks in the second half...he clearly felt no pressure at giving all the fouls in the world for Hull at 4-1.

Sorry to rant, but watching with an ex-referee who's just baffled - always be fair, so you can be harsh or let play go, but you can't do one to one team and one to the other.

Wow.... Hull sure did give you guys a scare.... cro back to his usual goal scoring form!! But wasn't he selfish at one instance when he took the shot when he could have passed to rooney and rooney could have scored!! damn i still cant imagine Hull scored 3 at OT!! btw rooney was lucky to get away with a yellow with the lunge on Dawson (was it?)

Seemed to me that Rooney was too eager to get his 100th goal. He seemed really pissed off with everything yesterday. Maybe he had a bet with Ronaldo to see who'd get there first.

And that's the exactly main reason why Ronaldo chose to fire away instead of crossing it to the empty Rooney :))

And Fergie sure knows how to piss off Real .. I mean .. "Gatling Guns" ?? lol :APPLAUD:

"We have enough ammunition ready. I'm only using one gun at the moment. I'll get the gatling gun out in January!"

Another game which we got complacent, Also it proved were to unbalanced as a side when all four attackers are on. Good news is Ronaldo is back on form, I may even chant a "Viva" soon

Ive come to the conclusion that we'll only sell Ronaldo to Real when they get a new President, the war of words with Fergie/Calderon seems like its just started and theres no way he'll be let go in these circumstances, Also explains Calderon saying the Ronaldo deal is "off" knowing he wont sign as long as he's at Real.

Saw this on football365...

Cristiano Ronaldo
The forward - how can he can be considered a winger when he boasts such ability in the air? - had an injury-induced slow start to the campaign but his brace against Hull City means that he begins November with more goals to his season credit than he boasted at this time last year.

Yeah I saw that Marukomu - truly frightening. He was fully back on form on Saturday, which of course is great to see. I thought Rooney was gonna go punch him in the face when he didn't pass to him though :)

Speaking of which, Rooney should have seen red for that lunge. Could have broken the guys leg. Disgusting. Plus who actually contends drop balls anyway?

We kicked the ball out before the ref blew the whistle, so in 'sporting fairness' we shouldn't have had to contest a drop ball. But yes, he probably should have seen red, and several Hull players should have been booked but weren't.
The amount of unpunished hacks we had in the last 15 minutes was shocking. It seemed that (maybe I'm exaggerating) if you had an orange shirt on and missed a tackle it was fine, but a fair tackle in a red shirt counted as a foul. Anderson was tackled from behind just outside their box and nothing, and on their counter attack they won a (dodgy, IMO) penalty.
I don't blame Hull, I blame the ref.

I don't want to take anything away from Hull as they gave us a good run out, it's just the ref spoiled it a bit for me. Hopefully we'll have a better one against Arsenal, otherwise it might kick off!

Exactly how I was feeling mate, see the posts above. I was literally screaming at the TV when Ando got hit not once, but twice on the edge of hte box and no call, then head to the other side and gives a penalty for Rio getting physical to try and get position. Which is cute because Mendes did that to Rio first, got the better of him, and when Rio tried to get his back got a pen given. If the attacking player can put his arm across and push off, so can the defender. It was the consistency that wasn't there from the ref. And I still want to know how in the letter of the law the ref can report on the Turner foul on Carrick. "And then as the attacking United player went past the Hull defender into the penalty area the defender deliberately and successfully took out the attacking player, preventing a goal scoring opportunity. However Hull were down 4-1 so I decided to not even give a yellow, because come on United didn't need any help."

At least it's not just me thinking that then! Like I said I don't blame Hull because they were being allowed to play like that. That's why I think Rooney lunged in.
You only need to look at what happened to Eduardo last season. The same scenario could easily have happened purely because the ref didn't clamp down on bad tackles.

Anyway, here's hoping we get a good win tomorrow. It would boost us ahead of the Arsenal game, especially as they'll probably be without Adebayor, van Persie & Walcott...

Evra V Walcott will be interesting, We should be able to deal with whoever you play upfront as your main 2 are missing. Ronaldo may play crap but im hoping he can pop up with a goal, Your defence hasnt coped well with Berba when he was at Spurs so he should be a problem for you lot.

Even if Walcott plays and I assume that will be on the wing, hes not going to offer much defensive cover and track back which is quite important against big teams. So I for one will be quite happy to see Walcott start, I hope I dont have to eat those words!

What Formation should we play? I feel safer with Rooney and Tevez uptop but I also think this match is perfect for Berbs.

I cant understand why SAF has always from time to time peristed with playing Giggs upfront. Its never worked before and was never gona work now.

Luckily because the ref was quite lenient - Celtic maybe should have had a couple of bookings also and nothing, ie there was a bad tackle on Fletcher in the first 10 minutes (late, and from behind) that should have been yellow.

Does anyone know if Manucho is registered for the CL? It would have been interesting to see his aerial ability in those 5 corners that we had chances from...
It doesn't work playing Tevez up front on his on, especially with Giggs meant to be playing behind him. Both drop deep leaving no one up top. It would have made more sense for Ronaldo to play as the lone striker with Giggs and Nani on the wings.
Anyways, roll on Saturday :)

Why the fuck wasn't Ronaldo sent off last night?

He definitely could have been. But you still sound like a bitter, ABU coming on here and asking that. The linesmen and the player kicked didn't complain too much. Perhaps if that player had pulled a Stevie G dive scream and roll we could have seen Ronaldo go. Would that have made it a better football match?

Totally with you. Our formation was outright sh*t and playing Tevez and Giggs up front is the most stupid thing Fergie has done since Djemba squared. I believe Manucho is indeed registered, I seem to remember him on the bench for one of the early games. We got some decent crosses in, but what are Giggsy and Tevez supposed to do about it? Add in the fact that Tevez tends to play somewhere in the centre circle and our problems were obvious.

Credit to Celtic, that was a great performance, and a quality goal too.

I believed we started with the Milan formation of 4-3-2-1.Giggs was LCM,Carrick was CM and Fletcher was RCM.Nani and Ronaldo supported the lone ranger Tevez upfront.

Well...that was shite and was a spectacular failure.Sir Alex realised this and switched Giggsy to play upfront with Tevez while we reverted back to 4-4-2.That formation worked but we got the wrong players to do the job.Celtic got lucky with their break but McDonald took it with aplomb.

We absolutely pushed them in the second half and we looked more menacing when Berbatov and Rooney came on.Ronaldo had a mix-up game, blowing hot and cold at the same time.Gigg's experience made him saw the rebound first and we rightfully got the equalizer.Should have won it by Berbatov but that was a first shocking miss by the Bulgarian.Contented with the point nonetheless.

Roll on Saturday as we are looking great to batter them in their own backyard.UNITED!!!
