Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Tim Howard's nail to the ole OT coffin that was. Can you imagine the football world if he'd just punched over the bar? No Mourinho to Chelsea, likely no Chelsea dominance, Deco stays at Porto, as do Carvalho et al...amazing what one second can do to the future...love it!

I'm totally with you guys on the CL - so nervous it's almost unenjoyable! The onyl time i've relaxed in recent memory was 4-0 up against Roma. I think it's actually Fergie that's nervous, and it translates through his players.

That Benzema contrast to Rooney is interesting isn't it! Benzema owns him more or less hands down, then again we probably had a tougher qualifying group than Lyon.

Could do with Ronaldo showing up tonight. I hope Fergie sits him down when everyone else has left the dressing room and says, 'son, if you want to win the balloon d'or, you have to win it tonight.' Or something like that.

wow really, you want fergie saying something about something so petty... if that is what gets ronaldo motivated then i dont want him

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

I expect Lyon to score first, but then you guys will score 3 past them, with Ronaldo finally showing his true class in a big game.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

I expect Lyon to score 9 goals and then we'll score 11.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

If that was supposed to be funny, it wasn't.....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Well, the post looks a bit out of place then.....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Sorry Abhishek, I'll try harder next time. ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Should be a good one tonight, Im looking forward to it. The match winners in the United squad will hopefully be enough to get through to the last 8

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Well 433 formation today for you ,not too confident about this one but it's with this formation you beat Arsenl few weeks ago so maybe it will work again,so C'mon Man u i' m cheering for u today:))

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Lord Ronaldo was simply woeful. How he stayed on the pitch is a mystery. Petulant, spoilt, every pass, including some in his own half going astray. Stepovers whining. Oh and he scored the winning goal. Should have been taken off for Tevez after 50 mins, didn't offer a thing after that, and made poor decisiosn every time he had the ball. Everytime you think maybe he's getting there, he has a game like that.

But we won !!!!! :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Totally agree mate. Worse thing is, he'll be dubbed the matchwinner, when really it was Tevez's goal in the last match which decided it.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Congrats MU.

Lyon without a good Juninho can't do anything in Champions League :/.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

VERY professional performance. United were average by our very high standards but Lyon were SHITE. Karim who?!?!

Ronaldo 1 Lyon 0.

A great night for English football. :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Benzema played quite well I thought mate. Didn't have much support from Ben Arfa, Kallstrom and co so couldn't do a great deal!

I swear David Pleat says players name's wrong on purpose.

Joo-ninny-oh

ben-zay-mar

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

I actually felt sorry for Benzema because he held the ball up very well but had NO support.

Lyon were quite crap though - any other team that only needed ONE goal to get back into the game would of showed more energy & prowess. The French Champions just didn't do enough to threaten us.

QUARTER FINALS HERE WE COME! :)

Sounds familiar ;)

Typical Utd performance though really. I haven't seen the match, but I get the impression they were poor / average and did just enough to get through. It's like that every season. Good enough for now.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

"Lord Ronaldo was simply woeful but still scored a vital goal. The best players can play badly yet still score goals which carry them into the European Cup Quarter Finals."

Fixed it for you mate.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

No they controlled the majority of the game, had the best chances. I think the only reason it was only 1-0 was some poor decision making when making the final ball.

Just seen Ronaldo has been voted best player on BBC sport by the fans. Unbelievable.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

The best team over two legs is through, simple as that. If you think otherwise you simply haven't watched the matches. We SHUT OUT their flare players and took our chances when they were created - Lyon were very poor. :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

We were shocking at times, especially for the last half an hour, but we pulled through. Lyon never really looked like scoring.

Having said that, it needed a vital touch from VDS to touch Keita's shot onto the post.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

What a poor game by the both team, Lyon play very bad don't try attack, stupid tactic :SS
Not disapointed because Lyon play bad, but a bit because Man utd poor too and a normal Lyon can beat Man Utd...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

...and a normal Man United could put away a normal Lyon mate.
not sure
but anyway, the Man Utd vs Lyon is really poor by the both

Man utd with this level in next round, i don't put 1€ on

TG showing he knows NOTHING about football... I think a normal United would PISS all over a Normal Lyon.... you have only got to look at the players on both sides and just how GOOD they are when they are on their game!

oh god dj, your really wrong here mate. Juhino, toulalan, = world class at there positions when playing well. Cris when fit is a monster. Benzema is on the verge of greatness, coupet is a fantastic keeper, ben afra is another up and comming youngster, istn grosso a world cup champion? There manager is gone soon and I wouldnt put them down so much when they get a new one. United didnt exactly wipe them off the pitch. Keita scores and the game is completley different.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

I was right about how we would go out blazing in the first 15 minutes.I was wrong about the central midfield combi and was surprised that we came out with an actual 4-3-3.

We looked out of steam in the last nervy 30 minutes of the game.Everyone looked out of sorts then except for Vidic and Rio whom kept it together at the back.Great solid performance by them.

Nani made a lot of unforced errors with his decision making.Ronaldo looked as if he tried too hard at times.Scored the goal but that was his major contribution to this game.Anybody noticed Rooney's maturity in the last few games now? I was impressed. When calls was against him,he just put his head down and get on with the game.He was highly sporting without ever compromising his typical approach to the game.

Lyon looked ordinary to be honest.I was highly impressed with Jeremy Toulalan. He looked a very disciplined player.Plays in the 'Makelele' role but with better passing skills.Should be a starter for France in the Euros. As said before,Karim Benzema really held the ball well but lacked the support.I bet Vidic was impressed by the boy because he gave it all to shackle him.

Alas,we are through to the final 8.I have a sneaky feeling we would face a big team. What are the odds of us facing the likes of say,Barcelona?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Might I add, Ronaldo has a good claim for the 'Best Player' title with Messi now. Kaka hasn't performed in big games this season. Ronaldo was awful today, but got the important goal, which is what matters.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Ronaldo always seem to have his share of tap ins especially the games he performs poor , thats a good way to make up though. I always seem him as a mix between Ronaldinho+Kaka+Inzaghi :D
