Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

The team spirit and effort was huge.Glad Hargo got his first United goal with that splendid freekick.Happy for Park with his goal and his first 90 Minutes for a while now.

What made us tick was the partnership of Scholes and Hargreaves, another different combi.Scholes was hugely instrumental in pulling strings from the middle and was a different class.Hargreaves as expected worked his socks off in breaking up play although his distribution could have been a little bit better.

Onwards we go now towards our 10th premiership title.Just gotta keep our head down and keep ploughing through teams like how we are doing now.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

I thought Scholes was brilliant. First he played well after his injury. Nice to see one of my favorite players back to doing what he does best :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Well,it has been widely known amongst our lads that Scholesy is the hardest player to play against in training.

He is also one of our most technically gifted in the squad.Rio Ferdinand once said that they used to play a game after training, they would pick out a tree and hit it with the ball, far from where they were standing.Scholes is understandably the 'king' of that game.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

The way Scholes controls the ball just says it all - he makes it all seem effortless. I love the Ginger Price, still one of our most important players.

Anyway, Lyon tomorrow! BIIIIIIIIIIG game and I can't wait.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Do any of you think that AV will win at OT in the upcoming game? They have now drawn away against the top sides (v chel 4-4, v pool 2-2, v arse 1-1) and only narrowly drawn two of them with late equalisers (at anfield and emirates). I didnt see the other matches put they should have lost the one at anfield. Even so they are suprisingly dangerous.

Just wondering with the upcoming fixtures for the league and as tight as its getting.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

In a word mate, no. I wish we played Aston Villa every week. We hammered them at Villa Park in the league and knocked them out of the FA Cup. Of course, they have hit form of late so who knows what could happen?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

I saw Lyon playing away to Lille at the weekend, doing a little scouting.I wasnt impressed by them,it was a decent game at best. They took off Benzema,Govou and Juninho after 70 minutes.Their captain,Cris is back and looked solid at the back in place of Boumsong. They are quite a calculative side, looking only at precise moments to attack.

Our squad should be strong enough to see them off at OT.C'mon UNITED!!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

Cris is back? Then I can see Lyon giving you lot some trouble. Cris is not only one of the best defenders in the world, but a great leader, and sometimes Lyon lack leadership when he's not around. With Cris back, Lyon are a very formidable side. You should win, but I think Lyon could surprise you now.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

It will be interesting to see the tactics for this game. Im not sure, but will Fergie actually play "proper" euro tactics? Because if he does he can let the team sit back and counter as they don't need to win, or even score in this match. But somehow I think he will still send the team out to win the match and attack. Could be dangerous if he does.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

I actually think the opposite. United's 'tactics' in Europe (at OT) tends to be: race out of the gates and try to score in the first 5 minutes. If that fails, attempt to sit and soak up pressure for rest of game. When you inevtiably get scored upon, remember that you're actually quite a good attacking side, and cue enslaught to get back into match. It happens almost every game.

Worried that Cris is back, I love how on Thursday he came out and said no way for Tuesday, so obviously not Saturday, and is now saying he's all ready to go after playing 90. Clearly a smart man, from the Wenger school of injuries :)

Am surprisingly worried about Lyon. In theory we should be fine, but with Ronaldo a bit hit or miss (and mostly miss) in Europe and Scholes probably not able to play again so soon after saturday, I could see us having a tough time of it. Hope we play with both Roon and Tevez at the back, but fear it'll be the ole 4-5-1. As above, til we concede...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

What's the surprise? Lyon are a very good team on their day, and can beat any team in Europe.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

What are the chances of that happening again?? That was an amazing performance, but a one off really.

All I am saying is underestimate Lyon at your own peril. I would expect United to win, but won't be surprised if Lyon pull out one from the bag.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

I do wish something like that game would happen again, but in all honesty, nothing will come close to that performance. I've heard Liverpool and Arsenal fans say their own big win performances were nothing compared to ours.

It was a fluke in a way, but I'd settle for a convincing win either way. If we score 2 or 3 that'll be fine by me (well, as long as Lyon don't match us that is...)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

I just want to win and get through. Going out at this stage would be disasterous for such a big, talented squad. In the quarters/semis its one thing, but in the first round of the knock out...I mean how do you tell Ronaldo that he's at one of the biggest clubs in the world if he's watching the CL later stages on his tv. Worries me.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

I dont like to sound overconfident but its OT, we've rested a few players, the lads will be in a positive mood after Arsenal dropping points, so I'm expecting us to be really offensive from the first whistle. I think we can score a couple against anyone when we're in that mood.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

So what, Cris is back? YES he is a great defender, YES Lyon are a good team but so are Ronaldo, Rooney, Scholes, Ferdinand, Tevez, Giggs, Evra, Van Der Sar and Vidic!

* We are at home

* We have the away goal

* We should win

:)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

It will be a great game either way, hopefully Ronaldo turns up and in my opinion a on form Ronaldo and on song United we are breathtaking (we saw that last year v Roma)i'd like a early goal to settle the team down but we should be looking to not concede within the first 15 atleast.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

I do not think Ryan Giggs will be playing tonight.I somehow feel we would be more attacking and unpredictable with Nani + Evra on the left and Ronaldo + Brown on the right.God how I wish we could have Neville there instead of Brown.I havent got a clue on who would start in the middle but my best bet would be Scholes and Hargreaves, after such a great game last weekend.

A Job is still need to be done.Lyon will come and play attacking football thats for sure.It will be hugely open and we thrive on open games.Get a quick goal and attack from the start, thats how we will get it on tonight.C'MON UNITED!!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

its gonna be tough tonight....

yes we've been playing better recently, also the squads looking strong...

but i'll never forget the porto game a few years back...

i reckon lyon will score so we're gonna have to score at least 2...

I was thinking about that in bed last night. I always expect the worse, that way I don't get too dissapointed.

The nerves are starting now, I have a love/hate relationship with the Champions League!

yeah I know what you mean...

seen some fantastic games/teams at OT in Champs League...

also had my euro dreams shattered a good few times!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread .

the porto game a few years back...

Honestly, that defeat still hurts now when I think about it.The picture of Jose jumping, fist thumping,on the sidelines makes it all worse.

However, with the knowledge of the strength of our current team now...I am mildly confident we will beat Lyon tonight.:TWIST:
