Manchester United Thread

Was reading The Game, from The Times. An article talks about Liverpool, and how they haven't won a title for ageeesss! And they can't use the excuse of "we are concentrating on Europe, we are the elite teams like Madrid etc."
Because over the last 15-20 years, Madrid, Barca, Milan, Man Utd etc have won the Champions League and their domestic leagues!

The Debate: Liverpool are 21-0 down on league titles

In Wednesday’s Times, I wrote that Liverpool paid a price for finishing second in their Champions League group, because there was a good chance they would now be pitted against one of the big clubs of Europe: AC Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona or Inter Milan. Cue angry postings along the lines that, in Europe, Liverpool are a big club; five times, pal, two finals in three years, you know the argument.

Yet surely consistent domestic success is part of this process, too? Liverpool have not won the title in what would be termed the modern era, post Premier League. Since the successful 1989-90 season, their achievements have been one Champions League and one Uefa Cup win (it is pointless comparing domestic cups as these are not taken seriously by leading clubs in Italy and Spain).

In that time, Barcelona have won eight league titles and two European Cups; Real have five league titles and three European Cups; Inter have two league titles and three Uefa Cups and Milan have six league titles and three European Cups.

Inter are short a trophy with big ears, but by all other criteria Liverpool are overwhelmed.

This is not to belittle them. The point made was that recent results under Rafael Benítez in Europe suggest this quartet of clubs should be equally wary of playing Liverpool, but the big club argument goes further. I noticed that few of those insulted by the term were from Liverpool.

I think those that go to Anfield every week know the score. When Liverpool truly were the giants of the European game, they also dominated at home. What has happened in recent years is an anomaly. Unless Benítez can add the domestic title to his European achievements, there will always be a blank space on his Liverpool CV, because league form is the default measurement of success.

As it stands, in recent times, to the clubs mentioned, Liverpool are 21-0 down on league titles; and not even Steven Gerrard could pull that one back.

Another good win at anfailed...

Defence and midfield were both excellent, anderson owned gerrard in the 1st half..

ive gotta hold my hands up about anderson, after a couple of early performances I thought we were gonna have to wait a while to see how good this kid is, hopefully he will get abit more confident going forward....

the midfield looks and plays alot differently this year...

last season both carrick and scholes brought tons of possesion and creativity and without having to do too much defensive work...

obviously it worked...

this season SAF has gone with hargreaves and anderson, which away from home looks pretty effective...

obviously scholes is gonna walk straight back into to the team in jan, I reckon its the best midfield choice we've in a few years...
 
Thing is mate, if Liverpool want to be taken seriously in the Prem then they have to start beating "the big four" home and away. There is just no consistency yet again with L'pool this season - at least with United we know what we are gonna get week-in, week-out. With Liverpool you just don't know what team is gonna be picked or how they'll play. They simply blow hot and cold and this isn't what champions are made of.

The thing is though that you dont. Look at manu's results last season to the big 4. They finished 3rd in that mini league. If anything its about being consistent vs the rest of the prem. Which Im commenting on regarding your consistent "you need to beat the top 4" to be Champions.

Agree with the rest though, Liverpool arent consistent enough although they are getting closer.
 
Ronaldo came 3rd in the world player of the year award which kinda suprised me , thought he had 2nd place in the bag but i guess not, I think its pretty harsh really i cant see him having a better season than last unless he performs in EVERY game:shock:

He needs to start destroying Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool first...

...and he doesn't do that at the moment...
 
Yeh but that still wouldnt make him have a great season if he performs against them and then goes missing against a lesser sides, but i see what your saying, I also think he's doing well in the Champions league this year he's top scorer right? if he can shine all the way through then maybe that could be the difference

agree,i think he deserved to be at least second as he had a better season than Messi

feck knows how he came third, whats he gotta do??

for a winger to score over 40 goals in a one and a half seasons for club and country is something else

winning The Prem, getting to the FA Cup Final and CL semi final...

I think both kaka and messi are exceptional...

but not as consistent as ronaldo...
 
Okay, who votes this FIFA crap? Last time I checked, Messi barely played last year, how on Earth did he get more votes than Cristiano? Ronaldo was better in his league, better in the CL and better in the World Cup, though obviously Argentina were the better squad. Why does everyone hate the UK?
 
I think they see the Premiership lower sides as being extremely poor for some reason, i actually believe its harder for players like Ronaldo to perform in the Prem than it is for Messi in La Liga , they get more time on the ball in spain, If Ronaldo does ever play in spain his time in the Prem will have helped him so much for the amount of time itll feel like for him when he's on the ball

aye it was, but thats no news really. Every big clubs away support is far better than their home support. Too many hot dog eating lifeless spectators who will push you down into your seat if you bother trying to stand up and sing.

dude but his performances for barca were beyond amazing... i mean they were awe inspiring feats of a demi god.. ronaldo had 17 more apperances then messi for his club and messi had 6 less goals.... its a tough choice i agree but even harder to imagine, messi did it in better style, IMO
 
I'm on a roll lately. I predicted who'd leave Xfactor the last 2 weeks before the final and then that Leon would win and now this! Who da man! :lol:
