Manchester United Thread

Funny how Sir Alex let it out that we have been bidding for Anelka lots of times and the frenchman was the one who puts us down last night. It was a tough game nonetheless. We tried to come back in the second half but Bolton defended deeply but brilliantly.I dont know how Tevez missed that glorious chance to equalised.Anderson sparked us and improved the pace in the middle but it wasnt to be...I hope the lads can pick themselves up from this defeat and go on a long spell of victories next, just like we did after we lost at Citeh...No worries, the finishing line is not in sight yet.

Sorry to disapoint you, but Arsenal is not a one man team like Man Utd... If you think the loss of Adebayor, Touré and Eboué for a month will make a difference you're so wrong...

It will make as much difference as it made yesterday... without Fabregas, Van Persie, Flamini and Hleb, Arsenal won...

Without Ronaldo, Man Utd are an average midtable side, as we all had the chance to witness yesterday.

What absolute twaddle. Shall I serve a bitter lemon with your lemonade, sir?

my friend I appreciate the kind support but C.Ronaldo is not the heart of United he just part of a vessel.

One player doesn't win the Premiership title - a team does. It's such a lazy and uneducated claim to make about a football team. Some people always bring up "Gerrard being Liverpool's only hope" and "Henry being Arsenal's" etc. It's boring.

Yeah Clichy has been immense this season, wouldn't swap him for no one.

yeah he did a great job on ronaldo at the emirates... :) just kidding clichy and evra are two great talents, but of course i would rather have evra, well to be honest i think evra is better in the air and a tad bitbetter at going forward, but there both QUALITY. But to be fair as well evra was shit vs bolton IMO.. but that was a rare day for him, i think davis got in his head, that twat

Sporting visits OT tonite and I think we would mix it up with our starlets and the regulars.Miguel Veloso will be a watched man tonite in more ways than one as we have revealed that he is in our list of wanted players. The 21 year old is a solid player, can play as CB,LB and DM and takes wicked freekicks with his left peg.I am not too sure about his 10 mill tag though. He will certainly provide cover in these positions if we agree to purchase him in the next window.I'd say its 2 nil to us tonite as we gather pace top our group in the CL.

I like the sounds of Veloso, while at first look it seems like we don't need any more CMF cover, if he's as versatile as you say could be great in later months of the campaign. An injury to Evra would force O'Shea back there, leaving only Fletcher as cover in the middle (assuming Scholes remains injured - any update on him lately?).

As far as Arsenal having more depth...I really don't know about that. Fine we lost against Bolton but a. they're a better team than wigan and b. you guys only scraped by in the last 10 minutes. That's 13 goals in the last 10 minutes this season, obviously if you can continue that you'll win the league, but at some point the 'luck' will run out and you'll hit hte post with that last try, rather than gallas getting another one :)

Whereas hopefully tevez will learn that 3 yard out misses are pretty sh*t for a £20m player...

Biggest concern is Saha. He was shocking. Absolutely awful, in a game when he was given a chance to shine. He clearly has no confidence, and in the end that's down to Fergie's man management, which in his case has been poor. Clearly Fergie's got a plan...I hope we don't hear about it til it's done and dusted, lest the Chavs come a knockin :)

Not sure how you compare teams, but Bolton better mmm.. maybe but we beat them(Bolton) much easier then again Portsmouth was even an easier match
I`m not too worry about scoring in the last 10 min. since it`s before 90 that matters

Very true re: 90 mins, you don't have to tell united fans about that! However, it's not a good strategy for a whole season...

As for beating Bolton yes, but you faced them at a very different time. While United were poor even the mighty Arsenal would have been under some pressure if they'd been playing Saturday. Bolton were first to every ball and if they weren't just took the player before the ball. I watched your game and they were sh*t passionless and disorganised.

anyway, the only true judge of how United and Arsenal would do against each other is just that, and it was 2-2 with an injury time goal from the central defender. So like I said, fair play while it works...

Saturday was one of those games, thought we deserved a point tho....

So we've lost two games and we're still up there..

Hopefully we can wrap up our CL group tonite...

Keep an eye on Veloso tonight, he's destined for OT very soon...

Theres a rumour that SAF is looking to offload Carrick to Spurs, getting Barbatov in return and Veloso taking his place...

Arsenal are a better football team than Man United at the moment. Simple as that. Take your specs off for a moment United supporters.

NOOOO...I cannot see that happening and hopes it stays as a rumour. It is official that Veloso is under our radars but according to Carlos Quieroz, signing the portugese is not a priority...A striker is perhaps the top priority bearing in mind how shocking Saha was against Bolton.

people seem to be split on Carrick....

last year I thought him and scholes we're excellent...

he hasnt really had a consistent run out this season...

but when he has come in he's looked poor, especially saturday, I thought a carrick/hargreaves MF would be decent, maybe we've gotta give it time...

weakening the MF seems daft anyway, 'specially when the player rumoured to come in is cup-tied in the CL...

so maybe its for the summer, apparently Ramos is keen on bringing carrick back...

Carrick is a fine footballer - but I agree with Vann, he hasn't been in the best form so far this season.

As for my earlier post about Arsenal being better than United at the moment: I am fed up with reading posts like "But we played Bolton who are better than Wigan" etc. What absolute nonsense - you have to beat the eleven players that are up against you whoever they may be. Arsenal did that at the weekend - United didn't. :)

It's the first freekick he's scored for absolutely ages though and he insists on taking most of them. I can't remember one since that shitty charity match against Europe XI or whatever it was so it was about time.

Also, if the keeper hadn't moved the wrong way first (for no reason :p) then he would've saved it. Wasn't a bad match anyway. Good result in terms of not having to get anything from Roma to top the group.

Vann, what do you think of Carrick last nite...I thought he was brilliant, didnt gave the ball away much, back tracked and covered Anderson well, won a few tackles and his distribution was the best above everybody.

What do people here think of Miguel Veloso? I think he did well too holding the Sporting midfield together.Very tough, hardly gives the ball away also and check out the corners and freekicks he took.He is cup tied but does it still apply in the knockout stages?

Saha was again very disappointing. We could all see his lack of match fitness and sharpness.Should have scored at least 2.

Nani didnt play according to plan,Fletcher looked jaded and is it me or is Anderson still ordinary despite the hype around him?

Ronnie scored his freekick but I am beginning to dislike his arrogance. That yellowcard he got was blatant yet he still argued with the ref, first half when he should have played the ball back to Rio,he argued too.His celebrations had a touch of arrogance too.
