Manchester United Thread

It's the first freekick he's scored for absolutely ages though and he insists on taking most of them. I can't remember one since that shitty charity match against Europe XI or whatever it was so it was about time.

Also, if the keeper hadn't moved the wrong way first (for no reason :p) then he would've saved it. Wasn't a bad match anyway. Good result in terms of not having to get anything from Roma to top the group.

Vann, what do you think of Carrick last nite...I thought he was brilliant, didnt gave the ball away much, back tracked and covered Anderson well, won a few tackles and his distribution was the best above everybody.

What do people here think of Miguel Veloso? I think he did well too holding the Sporting midfield together.Very tough, hardly gives the ball away also and check out the corners and freekicks he took.He is cup tied but does it still apply in the knockout stages?

Saha was again very disappointing. We could all see his lack of match fitness and sharpness.Should have scored at least 2.

Nani didnt play according to plan,Fletcher looked jaded and is it me or is Anderson still ordinary despite the hype around him?

Ronnie scored his freekick but I am beginning to dislike his arrogance. That yellowcard he got was blatant yet he still argued with the ref, first half when he should have played the ball back to Rio,he argued too.His celebrations had a touch of arrogance too.

I disagree, I think Anderson was the one making all the great passes, not Carrick.

Agree totally, i thought Anderson was excellent especially considering this is his first season at such a huge club and coming to terms with the english, game /language/climate. IMO had a much better game than Carrick and looks a great prospect.

I thought Carrick was better personally, Anderson did play well but he does seem to panic and play the wrong pass occasionally, but he's definitely one for the future and looks excellent. Carrick goes unnoticed quite often because he does most of his work out of the attacking third.

That look Cristiano gave after his goal rather reminded me of Cantona's reaction after that flick of his in the top right corner. Class

I dunno. I thought Ronaldo's one was kind of a "Too easy" look. Cantona's one said "Yes I Know. I'm awesome".

It would be very good if Mr. Ronaldo played half of what he plays in Man U in the Portuguese national team.

but no he doesn't...

suprised at some of these comments, i remember him having great Euro 04 then coming back to United and being not as good, then pretty much a poor 05 06 season and then a great(apart from the contreversy) World Cup in 06 and finally brought that onwards for a whole season but i always thought Ronaldo played well for Portugal, certainly shows more passion than some England players do to playing for thier country

I am still skeptical about Anderson.I still feel his best position is in the hole ala Ronaldinho or Kaka.Definitely not a central midfielder in my books.Having said this,it is still early days for him but if being compared to Ronaldo when he first put on our red shirt,Ronaldo had that 'special player' tag all over him even back then...Anderson kinda reminds me of Kleberson, our first brasilian player, seriously.

yeh i agree we dont play to his strengths which is the problem, Ronaldo is given a "free role" to literally roam around, if Anderson was given the same license i think we would see more of that "special player" type of thing, but agree Ronaldo is probably on another level to Anderson but you never know..

The next time we go 4-3-3, it would probably be better of have Anderson as one of the forwards instead of a midfielder.

I dont think anyone has the licence to roam around in a Man United team before, except maybe for Eric Canton.Everyone has a specific role to play in the current team too and thats what make us solid.

Dont get me wrong,Anderson does look good in centre mid,has good body strength, great array of passes and vision but I feel he is not expressing himself well because he has to stick to his pivitol role in the centre. It would be better if he were to play in an attacking role infront of two holding midfielders,eg. Carrick and Hargreaves.

Yeah he had a lot of freedom to roam all over the park:

Its a trait that Fergie likes to bring out in a lot of his players, he finds out about his players personal lives and plays on their emotions, in this instance he had 5 Man City fans come into the dressing room to hurl abuse at Cantona right before kickoff of this match against Crystal Palace, or the time last season when Rooney was on a goal scoring drought of 3 games, Rooney is a lover of dogs and fergie brought a poodle dog that looked exactly like Rooneys into the dressing room and had him dogfight to the death with a Rottweiler while he got Giggs and Ferdinand to hold Rooney down. The poodle put up a good battle for around 2 minutes before it got mauled to its death and Rooney thinking it was his poodle went out mental that day and bagged a hatrick for himself. Back in the dressing room he wanted to rip Fergies head off but then it was revealed it wasn't Rooneys poodle and it was all smiles and handshakes again. So this will give you a picture of the kind of tactics fergie employs, like the time he ordered the pizzas to be delivered to Highbury to throw at Wenger and his team as retaliation for losing the Premiership to them the year before.

god damn that is funny

Yep, dunno how many he's got overall but i know its 7 in his last 5 games so he's back to last seasons form :)

Interesting one with the penalty/yellow card. Curious what other supporters feel. For me it's true Niemi didn't touch Ronaldo, but he did present a 3/4 foot stumbling block in his path without touching the ball. For me that's still a foul, and if it's incidental, it certainly is NOT a dive. I mean, Ronaldo's agile, but since when is it the strikers job to get the ball first at full speed, then hurdle and onrushing keeper who has his arms up in the air (interesting as the ball was on the ground) and the regain his balance and score? Surely you can't just 'make yourself big' and stand int he players way?

What I love is that Ashley Young's dive was so much worse, but Ronaldo's will make headlines, get in foreign quotas, he's a diving c*nt etc. And you'll never hear of Young's again.
