Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

so glad richardson is finally going.

he has had his chances.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Seems strange as Richardson was one of the players that Keane slagged off in that interview... now he wants him.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

But he wasnt saying those players were shit, he was just mad that they werent doing as well as he knows they could. If a player is shit, theres no point telling him he's shit. Keane was mad cuz Richardson can do better so he's hoping he'll prove that at Sunderland.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

thank god for Richardson leaving! 5.5 Million?! more than happy

as for the Smith Saha debate i'd pick a fit Saha any day, his pace, link up play etc are first class.

he's got two big problems though, obviously his fitness mentally and physically is a massive problem

secondly he's not a natural finisher. by that i mean if he's got time to think then he fluffs it (think back to celtic away for one), if he doesn't have time to think he will score 9 out of 10

that's what seperates his finishing from Ruud's finishing. our most natural finishers at old trafford now are Ole and Rooney.

i'm more than ok with Smith and Rossi going but we need one more CENTRE FORWARD (not someone who will drop deep) in as cover. We only have Saha and maybe Ronaldo who can play this role and as we know Saha will probably be fit for half the season and Ronaldo is uproven in that role.

why not go out and get Anelka or someone similar?

i'm really concerned that Heinze might be going too, he offers cover at centre back and in my opinion is our first choice left back. Evra has improved but even though he's got decent spring his height is a problem.

despite all my complaints i'm really looking forward to next season!

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Agreed completely.Heinze is a better player in heading, tackling and a stronger build. Only thing is that he is not as quick. A season of injury and people forget his ability. On Smith and Saha, I do think saha is a better footballer. He bring players into play and has everything needed to be top class. That why France choose him as for Smith you get commitment but he cannot score. Look at his dismal records with Leeds and his horror misses. He can tackle decent for a striker but as a replacement for Keane no way. He is no midfielder as he cannot read the game thus run around like a headless chicken. Smith do bring physical presence as he hassle a lot but Saha bring speed, better passing and movement. Importantly, Saha bring a scoring threat when he come on unlike smith that why he is better as a sub. I think Smith remind me of Forlan without the shooting ability. Lastly Saha can be great as long his injury clear up. Remember Andy Cole is so injury prone before the treble season

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

well to be fair i dont think either of them are terrific finishers.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

I think he'll do okay. Never good enough for us, but he was good for West Brom.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Looks like we are keeping Smithy for now.Just been included for the Far East tour.First game tmrw against the Urawa Reds...we faced them last year too with Rooney scoring that sublime chip.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

It's on TV here but I'm working. One of my students is recording it onto DVD for me... lovely girl.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

I hope you're not doing anything stupid to repay her...;)

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

It's also live on MUTV Online - nice to see the subscription will finally pay off! However wll be at work...need a work around!

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Will be interesting to see if Smith will play up front with Rooney, and if they do, how that partnership works. He must know it's more or less his last chance of staying at United, so I expect him to play accordingly. Hopefully he'll be banging em in, and force SAF to at least wait til January...

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

i can understand letting a left back go if we got Gareth Bale but we didn't.

don't understand the thinking behind this especially as i've already mentioned that in my opinion Heinze is first choice left back. he must really want to go and ferguson has decided not to stand in his way.

these Brazilian kid brothers (both full backs) we signed are really promising although they'll both be at Antwerp next season.

and yeah good luck to Richardson, apparently he got a bit big headed/lazy at united. don't think there's any chance of that happening under keane.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Its a big disappointment for everyone. He need not leave when Tevez is coming.I dont want to believe it until I hear it from the horse's mouth.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

He's 29 now. It probably would be best to keep him for one more year so that he can help Tevez fit in better and have one good go at fighting for the left back position. Then next year when he's 30 going onto 31, then it would be better to think about letting him go.
But then again, we could make more money off him now than we will next year.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

We have Evra and Silvestre and Nani can play left back too, so maybe he thinks his days are numbered.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

i was gonna say, Nani at left back? he's a bit light weight to be a full back, Anderson makes a little more sense i guess but i wouldn't seriously consider him an option.

united 2 urawa reds 2

Ronaldo and fletcher for us.

first time i've seen our new kit in action, i really like it, especially the stripe on the back, not sure of the collar though

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

How did we play? Heard that VDS had a howler...it's alright with me, get them out of the way now!!!

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

i only saw the first 20 mins then looked online for the score when i got in work.

one random thing stuck in my head after watching the first 20 mins, there were 60,000 japanese there watching us and you could almost hear a pin drop it was really strange.

i went to the world cup in japan and korea and although i noticed the japanese were quiet i've never seen anything like this

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

I'm not a big fan of VDS to be honest and a howler from him in a pre-season game is the last thing I needed to hear. He's lucky that Foster will be out till next year the very least.VDS is world class no doubt but it seems age is creeping up on him.We all saw it last season.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Yeah, but equally he saved us in a few games with pretty impressive stops. This will probably be his last season in the first team, and I'm sure that Foster woudl have featured if not for injury. Weird for a keeper to get such a long term one, and you wonder how he's gonig to be able to come back and adapt to the prem after almost a year out...not ideal.

Smudger did play yesterday, but not the whole match. Didn't see it. Pissed off, I pay for mutv online, but couldn't get on due to IP blocking. Sigh. Anyone know if they'll replay it?

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

hi,
can anyone post a full 2007-2008 GDB folder for MANCHESTER UNITED! i know that this is not the right treat but i've search everywhere and i couldn't find anything!
thanks people!

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Best to post this in the editing thread mate, you might get more Joy.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

from what's been reported today Gaby is on his way out, just not to the dippers or barcodes thank god.
smith and rossi also now look certain to leave providing the tevez deal is done.
in my opinion we still need another centre forward though especially with 2 strikers leaving.

as for the keeper situation, it concerns me. Van der sar has one season left at most, in fact this season i think he'll lose us as many points as he gains us. Kuszczak looks way too eratic and i have no faith in him when he comes for a cross (although i thought the same of Schmeichel when he first came) and i don't get what all the fuss about Foster is. he's had one decent season in the premiership playing for a poor side where he's bound to get the chance to look good. Neil Sullivan went through a purple patch for wimbledon for a couple of seasons and he wasn't great. my point is it's a lot easier for a keeper to look good in a shit side.

Thats true but its also good practice of keepers if they play for a shit side. Maybe all that training will help him make that step.
I still think its too early to say he's United material. Its all down to VDS now. He could still do the job for us as long as he concentrates.
