Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Thats a top post Sean...took some words right off my mouth mate.

We signed Cantona directly off Leeds back then...I wonder how actually did the Elland Road faithful reacted. We signed Owen off a relegated club, after he left Pool for Madrid!!..yet we see people shooting their mouth off with bitter words. It is sad really.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

You're talking about a player who spent his youth growing up with Liverpool, the club and the fans, the whole Liverpool mentality. He then went on to play a good few years with us before fucking us off because he wanted to win trophies and earn more money. He let his contract run right down so Liverpool got fuck-all from Owen leaving and left us in a far worse situation than he could've helped.

Then he wants to leave Madrid, he wants to come back to us and Rafa tells him he's too expensive now as we'd just sold him for £8m and paying £16m so soon after isn't good so to wait for the next window and we'd go in then. Nope, Owen doesn't care about club football much, it's England he's after. So he goes to Newcastle despite them not being his first choice, all about the England shirt here.

So we've got a player who's grown up as a Liverpool player and should know that Liverpool and Man Utd don't really get on much, he lives with Liverpool fans and knows the feelings between both sets of fans. He leaves Liverpool under a cloud and many fans aren't happy with how he left but remember the goals he gave us. Then he turns us down to go to a team where he was far less likely to win anything (the reason he left Liverpool apparantly) just to "save" his England career.

And now we've heard he wanted to come back to Liverpool this time, and he'd have taken less wages but, and good on Rafa really, we had none of it, so he's gone to United instead.

So maybe now you'll understand a bit more if a Utd player had acted the same way. Owen doesn't give a shit about Liverpool or the fans even having spent so long at the club and growing up with the fans. It's a COMPLETELY different scenario to Cantona, or Ince or whoever else you want to try and compare to. Look at it/him for what it is, he's shown no loyalty at all to the club that gave him his chance and developed him into the player he is.

And that's that, Owen has pissed on his Liverpool career and memories with most Liverpool fans because he's fucked us over three times now and joining our biggest rivals despite spending most of his career at Liverpool is the final nail I'm afraid.

Maybe if you looked at the bigger picture you'd understand, but you wont. You only want to see things in your rosy tinted glasses and believe that Owen is going to be a quality striker for you, where if I said to you last season that you'd have Owen instead of Tevez you'd have all laughed. When Owen played for us for all those years, I bet you all hated his guts? Probably booed him? Yet now you're all over him and all is forgiven?

Try looking outside of your little world and you MIGHT just see things how other fans see things ;) I'm not expecting any of you to actually read this and come back saying "Oh, fair enough, you make some good points there. I understand now". Far from it, I expect nothing to change and you still won't understand.

It's like Phil Neville joining us (vomits)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Rafa's an absolute twat for selling Owen in the first place.... Could you imagine a fit Owen at Liverpool with the right fitness training partnership with Torres and Gerrard! Lethal..... Alas though Owen has signed for us.

Rafa had no say in the matter, Owen wanted to leave to win trophies and it was his decision to go. Funnily enough we went on to win the CL the following year

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Surely you could have asked him to stay for one more season liek? Just like we forced Ronaldo to stay for 1 more season after our Moscow win.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

You'll understand soon enough, Owen isn't arsed about the club, it's all about his England career. Why should he show any loyalty to the club that made him the player he was and stay another year when he could jump ship to Madrid and win trophies there .... oh, wait

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Put it this way. If we signed owen a few days ago instead of you lot, people would be rolling on the floor in hysterics. "Rafa's lost the plot" blah, blah.

Exactly. Everyone would be saying we're so skint that we had to sign a free player, his injury record would be analysed beyond belief and, like you say, Rafa would've "lost the plot" again.

It's a masterstroke for Fergie though

But why should we care? We've brought him in to do a job. He knows he's gonna have to perform to get into the England squad. So everybody wins. I couldnt care less about the person, I just wanna see goals.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

In all seriousness, would you rather have seen Macheda play more games next season, or have Owen? I haven't seen much of Macheda but you guys (and the press) hyped him beyond belief last season. Would you rather he got more chances to show his ability or go with Owen?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Exactly...I still do not understand why people are still tagging Owen with the injuries too.Did Fat Rafa signed a certain,31 year old, crocked 'God' to give him a final lap at Anfield? He did shit in that 'free transfer'(coincidentally) too, only managing 8 goals in 30 games.

We signed an old legend back, you've signed someone you've got no ties to at all. Big difference there.

I thought Owen was a crap signing until I actually bothered to look into his injury record and how many games he's played recently, not to mention the goals. It's all been exagerated by the media and it's now become 'the truth'. Sam Allardyce (a top flight manager, not joe bloggs) said he wouldnt sign him cos he cant play 30 games a season, but infact the last 2 seasons he has done and would've played more had Newcastle gone on a cup run or been in Europe.

I understand your views Dags but hate Owen, dont start mocking us about it, thats whats making you sound bitter.

EDIT: I also heard he was going to sign for us when he left Lilleshall but his dad wouldn't let him....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

You 'Pool fans should be happy that you had his services while he was in his prime. ;)

And I doubt the media would be slating you lot if you guys had got him, that just sounds like paranoia to me.

I'd imagine they would have seen it as a legend coming back home or a common sense signing, something like that.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Whatever, it's done. We'll have to see how he gets on. I'm an England supporter, so I'm pleased that he'll get time in training and on the pitch with Rooney, and if they can both stay fit I'm sure they'll feature together at some point in the WC.

He tried to get back to Pool. Do you not think if Rafa called and offered him an identical deal he wouldn't have taken it? He would have in a heartbeat. It wasn't an option.

If you're a professional footballer and you get the choice between good money at Hull, or Stoke - but choose to get relatively crap wages (same as Johnny Evans) at United - I respect that.

You all forget it's just a profession. I'm sorry that it hurts, but if Liverpool fans wanted him so much they should have put pressure on Rafa to sign him.

Anyway, maybe he'll walk on the pitch and break, and then you'll have the last laugh. Let's hope not, cause he's only 29 and was a cracking player just 3 seasons ago.

So if Owen isn't arsed about the club, why should he care about the rivalry between us two?

And why should you really be bothered? As I've said before, it's only gonna affect your lot if he scores against you, until that happens, let it be. You've gotta quit taking things so seriously.

He's long since cared about Liverpool (if it all considering you figure he's all England), so why do you lot care about him?

Unless you're trully worried he's actually going to do a great job for us...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Speaking for me personally, and probably a few more, it's not a factor that he's going to do any kind of job for you. If you read my post earlier about the reasons I'm against Owen, then you'd understand why I'm against him moving to United.

Simply put, he spent most of his career with Liverpool and our ways yet he goes and joins our biggest rivals. It's a massive "fuck off" to Liverpool as far as I'm concerned and most players would never dream of joining the nearest rivals of the club which made them and they spent so long at.

Also take into account how much Mancs hate Scousers, singing songs about us, calling us murderers, singing about Hillsbrough etc. Owen has been amongst Liverpool players and fans enough to have heard all of that for years, yet he's happy joining that same team? It's just wrong, sorry.

On the same note, I'd expect a similar reaction if Owen was an old United player in the same circumstances and then decided to sign for us. Just wrong.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

But it's not like he's gone straight from you to us (and if reports are to be believed, he could've when he went to Madrid).

He's just been relegated after four demoralising years at Newcastle, he just wants a job that's gonna keep him in the Prem, give him some football with decent players and hopefully work his way back into Capello's plans.

I highly doubt he contemplated the fact he's gonna piss off so many Liverpool fans, or at least, he won't have dwelled on it for too much, especially considering the whole thing is supposed to have happened very quickly.

He had offers from Hull, Stoke and other clubs were apparantly interested such as Villa, Blackburn and Everton. If he wants to work himself into the England team then, if it was me, I'd rather go to a club where I'd get first-team football everytime I was fit rather than go to a club where I'm likely to be a bench-warmer for the most part but picking up a nice wage instead.

And he should've contemplated how much he'd piss off Liverpool fans, I think he spent 8 years at us so he knows full well about the rivalry between our clubs. Obviously he wasn't arsed though.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Did Ince spend his youth, reserves and first team football at Manchester United?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Owen's joined a club, whose supporters, few years ago, would not have minded calling him a murderer, and a scouse bastard. Michael Owen was brought through the Liverpool academy, yet fails to grasp the concept of respect and rivalry. Tevez, who's spent two years there, understands it far more.

He was my boyhood idol, which is my I'm pissed off. He's proved he's an utter cunt. Let's move on.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

For me it would be the same as either of the Nev's , Scholesy, Giggs , Butty or Becks joining you lot. I would be gutted...Incey? I couldn't give a fuck about him...Keane was 10 times the player and 100 times the man that he was.

Ince was booted out.......

Hmmm, yeah great business that is, with 1 year left on his contract! :D

Tbh I think people are getting carried away. WIth his past nobody should expect him to have any club loyalty, even the rumour that he would have prefered to go back to Liverpool for less wages seems like poor pr-spiel.

The main thing that is p!$$ing me off is the fact we didn't go after him for the pay-as-you-play contract as he's a good signing imo. That and the fact he went to you lot.......

Pretty much, there you go. It's one of your own who you brought through your system for ages, then signs for us. Just not on really.
