Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that Owen will be brilliant for us. We've missed this type of forward since Saha left and its definately something we could have done with last season with our lack of goals. I'm really excited with this transfer, not only because of how good Owen can be but his link up with Berba could make a deadly partnership.
The season cant start soon enough.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'd much rather play Rooney and Owen than Berbatov and Owen, and probably more than Rooney and Berbatoc really.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Berbatov-Rooney has the potential to be the best striking partnership in Europe.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Both Berba and Rooney are at their best when they're playing just off another striker like Owen. We needed someone who's always in behind defenders, waiting to break the offside trap and keep the opposition on their toes. The only time we had that was when we used to play Ronaldo as a lone striker but that strategy as a whole never used to work for us.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Depends really, If your calling Gerrard and Torres a "striking partnership" then I doubt it but they can certainly be up with some of the best out their.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Always thought Owen was from Chester,....Hmmmmm 2 scousers??....that's as many as you got in your team mate. We are The Pride of the NORTH.

Technically he's Welsh, as Hawarden is on the Welsh side of the border near Chester.

:LMAO:

United fans trying to get technical and justify Owen being their next big thing, a player who had to send a dossier out and even the likes of Hull were only debating whether to make a move or not. Keep trying to tell yourselves it's a great signing, I'm sure he's a great striker still ...

Last time I checked, Owen has England caps? So he's classed as English in every sense, technically ;)

And considering Owen spent all of his youth and a good few years of his adulthood afterwards playing for Liverpool, then yep, he's classed as a Scouser I'm afraid.

Keep justifying it to yourselves though, it's pretty funny that you sold Ronaldo with the amount of goals he scored and are now relying on a striker who barely manages to string games together and barely managed to stay playing top-flight football in England

The more I think about it, the funnier it gets really. How the mighty have fallen in Owen having to send dossiers and having the likes of Hull sniffing around, then United trying their best to sign the likes of Benzema (who's confirmed he snubbed Utd), Ribery and Villa but ending up with Owen

Enjoy, this is quite brilliant actually :)

I'll leave you all to dance in the streets about this signing then, I wont interfere in your celebrations anymore ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

 You sound bitter Dags? Who said he's "our next big thing" He's going to play the Ngog role that you have When Torres pulls his hamstring every other 2 weeks. Yes there's no doubt we were after Benzema, We even said that in here but Ribery? Villa? I doubt it.

Im sure Rafa's net spending is much much more than ours know! Can't really use that as a excuse now can you?

I swear this reminds me of 06/07 so much "You've sold all those goals from Van Nistelrooy and only brought in Carrick?" :)) Odds are Dags you'll be 20 odd points behind us, Arsenal and Chelsea by March by which time the "but you spend so much more than us" stuff starts coming out

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

 It is kind of funny seeing you all praising him saying how this is going to be a brilliant signing...when the likes of Hull and Stoke wanted him...

But I wish him well and hope he enjoys his runner up medals :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

 So much biterness in this thread right now.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Nobody is saying he's the next big thing , he's been brought in as a back up striker, something you lot could do with especially with half a season Torres there, never mind you've still got Voronin to bring on if you need a goal.I Suppose Owen wants a couple of WINNERS medals before he retires, so you can't blame him for coming to us really, and I See you've got King Kenny back, at least you've got somebody there now who knows what its like to win the league.

You mean the Babel role? or Kuyt role?

Odds are Dags you'll be 20 odd points behind us, Arsenal and Chelsea by March by which time the "but you spend so much more than us" stuff starts coming out

And I'll quote this ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

LOL, at the end of the day, it is a gamble that's less than 20-80 (really). He can score goals when he's healthy, that's all we can agree on.

Abh why are you quoting YG? You know what he is .. you're wasting your time. :P

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He's been brought as a back-up striker and hopefully can pass on some tips to our young strikers, like Welbeck and Macheda.

He also provides us with something that we haven't had for a while, an out and out striker who is a very good finisher.

He might be that poacher that we can send on in the last 15-20 minutes of a game to grab a match-winning goal.

He's still the right side of 30 and although most of his pace has gone, the predatory instincts are still there.

Here's hoping he stays fit and shows us he can still play at the highest level.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

its kind of funny how upset some of the liverpool fans are getting.

i think its a good move to sign him that could turn out to be a great move or a mediocre one. its gonna be weird seeing him in out on the pitch with scholes and giggs thats for sure.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

at first, was bit against idea as i imagined we would've went for someone different but now thinken about it, it could work.

people say risk but when u get someone on a freebie, i don't really say thats a risk.

people gotta remember, chelsea paid £30.8 million for a 29 year old striker who has a record like 9 goals in 47 for them now.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Just wondering, honest answer, Owen or Tevez?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Tevez, if he was happy to be third-choice behind Rooney and Berbatov.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Before the end of the season I'd have said Tevez every time, but with the amount of shit that's come out of his mouth since he left (plus him demanding more money when we offered him a contract) I'd settle for any decent striker as a backup.

It's funny. Since we United fans have discussed how it could be good business (after getting over the initial shock), the Liverpool lot are accusing us of believing he's our best ever signing. He's not. I see him playing the Ole role - mainly a sub, but able to do a job when needed.

We still have a minimum of £65m in the bank, so we very likely to bring in at least one more player in the next few weeks.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Well we cant really answer that right now cuz Owen hasnt kicked a ball for us yet but I'd be willing to bet £50 that Owen's 2 years with us will be better than the 2 years Tevez gave us. Thats just how strong my belief is in him. Unless he has another injury, I cant see it going wrong for us. And he played about 25 games for Newcastle in the league last year anyway. You have to remember that he missed a few games cuz he was dropped, not because he was injured. And around better players Owen could easily score more here than he did at Tyneside.

In other news, it looks like we've snapped up a couple of young defenders...

...and loaned out Possebon.

We still have a really packed squad but its a question of whether they'll do the business. We wont have to be waiting long to find out though.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

don`t know what the argument is about? if Ronaldo was at Newscastle how successful would he have been? Owen w/ the right mix can be just as lethal for a striker as any. Gerrard at Stokes won`t be that electrifying , Cesc struggled w/o the right mix.

I can only guess it`s upsetting to see Owen at the Devil`s camp and then I`ll say rightly so to be gutted. As of L`Pool they are in the best position then any team imo just look at your squad and smile. You lots need to chill getting your tits tide up over this is rather sad then amusing. Who knows you might not bottle it!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Dags is STILL bitter...you must have been a huge Owen fan back then huh? Let it sink mate, dry your eyes.

Abhi..I would have said Tevez, ability and passion wise...but I had enough of his bitching when he was with us and even after he left us.The difference now between Tevez and Owen is,the latter knows what role he will be playing at United, while Tevez thinks he should have start every game.He was a non starter even before Berbatov was bought and he blames the Bulgarian as a big part of his decision to leave us? Ridiculous.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Tevez has more ability but Owen will score more than Tevez.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I see Owen as a good bit of business, yeah some fans I know are saying we should spend, spend, spend with the money we recieved from the sale of Ronaldo.

However Clubs with big/star players know United are coming in for thier player and will instantly slap a £10m hike on his transfer fee just because we have so much money in the bank. Look at past players like Sheringham, he was getting old abit yet he managed to poach goals and score one of the goals on a night of History for United in Barcelona.

You only have to see the Owen transfer and compare it with the time we signed Larsson on loan, now Larsson was injury-prone then but he scored a few goals, made an impact yet we were calling for him to stay beyond his loan period!

I'm sick of the United fans who claim SAF's gone off his head for signing Owen.... I've never lost faith in the signings he's made, even my father was telling me he lost faith in SAF when he signed Cantona from Leeds as he wasn't even in the first team then... but we all know what happened when King Eric was on the pitch... especially in the 1996 FA Cup Final.. You all remember the cream suits Liverpool?! We lost out on Ronadinho, yet signed Ronaldo, we lost out on Hirst to Sheff Wed, yet we signed Cantona.. Looking back I'd take the latter players as we won many trophies and games! :D

Fact is players who are in latter stages of the career, SAF had the determination to bring out the neccessary attributes out of them, we only need to take a look at Larsson, Sheringham and VDS to name a few...
