Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

So he's at Carrington right now. This is pretty much done now.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Well that seems done then. Valencia and Owen in. SAF seriously thinks our youth are good enough to make the step up which is exciting to say the least. I'll be looking forward to the Carling Cup next season if SAF decided to play all the youngsters in that. Should be a great season.

BTW Some of these "Targets" were never targets for us. Benzema was the only big name signing I think we were after, Anyone else think we should have considering Sheva rather than Owen?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The more I think about it the more I think this could be one of the best pieces of business done in this window. (Hear me out lads :D)

Lets look at the facts instead of popular public opinion. Owen's always injured and is half the player he used to be...... Okay, last season Owen made more apperances in the league than Torres (you'd take him on a free transfer!). He scored more league goals than Tevez... and Drogba... and Bobby Zamora. ;) Hmmm sounds like alright to me.

He's been at Real where he was unhappy and then Newcastle who he probably didnt really want to join and where most players have looked shit for the past few years, yet he's still got an goals to games ratio of around 1 in 2. The guys still got it if you ask me.

He's not gonna cost us a penny in transfer fees and from the reports his wages will be low with perfomance related bonuses. It's win win for us.

He's gonna be so determined to show he's not past it and to prove all his doubters wrong and desperate to impress Capello to get in the World Cup squad.

He wont expect to start every game like Tevez, Benzema, Aguero etc would.

He'll add some experience upfront and be a good tutor for the younger forwards... Ole and Owen mentoring you, not bad at all!!

I really think Fergie's pulled a blinder here, it's along the same lines as the Sheringham, Larsson and Cantona signings. There's a risk it'll fail but at the end of the day the guys a natural goal scorer and I really think he'll do well.

I like these few points mate...especially the last part where I added Roons and Berba to your equation. If I were Danny Welbeck or Kiko Macheda...I'd be creaming in my pants in training sessions...hahaha.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Its a question of whether he's our last signing or not. If he is, then we're f*cked. If not then you cant really go wrong with a free transfer of that quality.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Monday I think Ryan.

I think we only need a couple of additions in midfield, paticularly a wide man and we'll be fine.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

We have Carrick, Hargreaves, Fletcher but we need one more in their position. Giggs, Scholes and Anderson is enough for attacking midfielders IMO. And yeah, another wide player and we're good to go I think.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

So you lot are happy at losing Ronaldo and Tevez, replacing them with Valencia and Owen then?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Leaving aside all my bitterness, that's a decent signing. If he can stay fit, he'd be a great backup. He can obviously play with both Berbatov and Rooney, and he still knows where the back of the net is. Just need to keep him fit.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I would bet like 1 million dollar that owen will injured himself during training camp and wont play till mid december ahah =p

well like someone said a experience striker that didnt cost us a penny...why not???

We don' really. Scholes is in the first category and Anderson is being used in the same position, We have Petrucci who can play AMC but I think we'll probably convert him into a CM. We don't really play with AMC's anyway.

Yes because their not direct replacements. We won't be playing the same way we did over the last 2 seasons but more similar style to 06/07

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

:LMAO:

Riiiiiight ...

Incidently, Tevez wouldn't join us out of respect for United fans. But it's okay for Owen to join you? :LMAO:

Brilliant :D

Giggs, Scholes and Anderson really isn't enough at all, not even 50% enough.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

You do need central midfielders. Carrick is a very good player, and Flethcer has improved a lot over the last season. But Hargreaves is always injured, and Scholes and Giggs are past it. And Anderson is well, meh. Potential I guess. Why he was called the next Ronaldinho I won't know.

You do need one more central midfielder. Someone in the De Rossi, Cambiasso mould, if you're playing 4-4-2.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I could live with Carrick or Fletcher as the defensive midfielder, we need some creative and attacking at the side/in front of them.

Be careful you don't speak too soon Dags, you might have to replace Alonso and Masch soon, and I'd trust our yanks to be willing to spend the cash more than I'd trust yours.
I'm also Happier than if it was one of our homegrown ex idols that had signed for you lot. For me it would be like Beckham signing for you, must sting like hell.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The thing with Alonso and Masch is that I very much doubt Rafa would sell either unless he had a deal in place for another player to replace them straight away.

I don't think Fergie had a replacement in mind for Ronaldo (although he's not really someone you replace I guess, and I don't think Valencia is a direct replacement) and I'm pretty sure that you expected Tevez to stay, so didn't really make plans to replace him, apart from being interested in Benzema.

Do you think Ferguson has actually been given the Ronaldo money to spend? You've been linked to players like Benzema, Villa and Ribery yet nothing seems to happen apart from signing Owen for free? Maybe the Glazers have taken a chunk of that money ...

On a side note:

and I'd trust our yanks to be willing to spend the cash more than I'd trust yours.

How shitty is that when you look at it. Two of the most successful teams in world football, let alone English, and they're owned by Americans  Makes you realise really how much football has changed.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

There's been nothing at all coming out of the club that we placed concrete bids for Benzema, Ribery or Villa, so it's conjecture to say we missed out or were snubbed by them.Saying that I still think we will see a major transfer to us.

Think Carrick's very creative myself. You need someone imposing in the center. That's what you missed against Barcelona.

True but I was kinda thinking of the AMC position as kind of a plan B like when we go 4-3-3 where you'd have 2 holding midfielders and then one attacking one.

Giggs, Scholes and Anderson really isn't enough at all, not even 50% enough.
Its not enough for a side that relies on AMCs like maybe Chelsea or Milan. We've always been about playing down the flanks. So when you think about using AMCs as a backup plan or a position that doesnt need emphasis, those three players are enough (atleast for the next season because of the age of Giggs and Scholes).
And even if they arent enough, we still have Ljajić and Tosic that I always keep forgetting about. Maybe we're not in as much trouble as I initially thought. Apart from the midfield position mentioned below.

You do need one more central midfielder. Someone in the De Rossi, Cambiasso mould, if you're playing 4-4-2.
Yep, thats the kind of signing I was trying to say we need.

He's a great passer, but he's not got the greatest brain I don't think, and he's not nearly attacking enough.

u forgot about Hargreaves ?

I didn't.

We can't rely on Hargreaves because he's gonna miss a chunk of the season anyway, we know that for sure. But whats the betting he'll miss another period of it with another injury when he comes back?

Like YG said, we're clearly going to change our playing style. We had to shape our game around Ronaldo so much at the cost of other players, now he's gone we're no longer so refined and can change our gameplan. You gotta evolve all the time in football, that's why SAF has been so succesful all these years.

Like I said before, Owen scored more league goals than Tevez last season and only scored 5 less goals in 20ish less appearances in all comps. Not bad for an injury prone has been when compared to a world class centre forward who reckons we would've won the CL final had he started...

And Ronaldo, as good as he was, just didnt want to play for us anymore so why would we want to keep him longer? He's moved on and so will we. We weren't a one man team, he was just our best player so things revolved around him. The 2 biggest ego's in the club are gone and we've replaced them with a talented young winger and the best natural goalscorer England has produced for years and with a point to prove.

Incidently, Tevez wouldn't join us out of respect for United fans. But it's okay for Owen to join you? :LMAO:

Brilliant :D

Tevez chose not to join you, the fans didnt say that. Owen chose to join us, the fans didnt ask him to join.
