Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

To be honest I'm glad that 'our targets' aren't signing for us.
- Ribery seems to have a strop on (demanding to go to Madrid) so it looks like he just wants in on the money trail.
- Benzema has moved there after saying that he wanted to stay at Lyon until the World Cup, so that seems to be similar to his fellow Frenchman.
- A move hasn't been made for Douglas yet, as his team have raised his valuation.

We have to trust SAF. It's not like he's making poor signings with us not winning anything. We don't usually make our transfer plans public until they're finalised, and just because we have money in our pockets we're not going to be held to ransom for anyone.
If Owen does sign then hopefully he'll do well. As a backup player with a point to prove, it's worth the gamble (if it's true). Plus he'd get a better service from us than Newcastle, so would pretty much guarantee goals.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Erm, what the f*ck? Really? Linked to Stoke, Hull City and erm...premiership champions?

Lose Ronaldo. Get Valencia. Lose Tevez. Get Owen. Lose premiership. Get??

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Owen's passed his medical with us...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

FFS, said it would be worth signing him on a pay-as-you-play basis at Liverpool. Can't really go wrong with that, either he gets injured and you don't pay him.....or he comes on in tight matches and scores a winner.

Unless Liverpool sign someone good it's a loss of an backup striker. For Manu I think it's got a bit more of a risk; You lose Tevez and Ronaldo and replace them with Valencia and Owen whilst hoping the youngsters come through. Still think it will be a good signing :(

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If Owen does sign for United then I'll lose all respect for him, simple as.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He doesn't really have a choice, does he? I'm sure if Liverpool had offered him a place in the team he would have accepted it. But now no other teams are willing to sign him except for United (or so it seems), and there is a World cup coming.

Anyone would have done the same, scouser or not. Wouldn't you?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Not to United, no. Likewise I wouldn't expect someone who had Owen's history but with Utd to sign for us.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

in blinkered football fan mode, how dare an x liverpool "legend"? sign for the scum/rivals!

but in reality, life is more important that football, and he needs a decent job

he will get one at utd

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

So, is this your striker for the season then? Benzema ... Villa .... then to Owen? Surely you must have someone else lined up?

To go from Ronaldo, Rooney, Berbatov and Tevez to Valencia, Rooney, Berbatov, Owen has got to be a step backwards, right?

So you're saying that if you were a professionnal football player with no club, that you badly wanted to play in the next World Cup and that United would open its doors for you, still you'd say no? Come on, I find that hard to believe.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Its not a bad signing like I said before and all so other people have posted. A big name striker isnt needed! if he can be kept fit it will be a decent signing, its a free transfer after all so I dont see the problem. At least he knows the Premiership and hes more than capable of netting a few goals. Good bit of business if it happens

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He's got quite a few clubs after him apparantly, and he'd get first team football there. For the most part, he's going to be a bench-warmer for you.

And to answer your question, and I had a history with Liverpool, then no, I wouldn't sign for United, or Everton for that matter. The same if I played for Milan, I wouldn't sign for Inter. If he's still that good, then there's plenty of other top clubs interested in him and he'd be more likely to play first-team football there (which would also increase the chances of getting into the England squad for the WC).

Capello has shown that he's a manager who will pick players who are playing first-team football and are playing well, regardless of the team they play for. He dropped Beckham because he wasn't playing much football, he didn't pick Owen because he didn't play much football.

I'm not sure Owen will play a huge amount of games at United either, and I do feel he'd be better playing for a team where he'd start all the games where he was fit, and Capello would prefer that, I'm sure.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I don't think Michael Owen can start every game. His body doesn't seem to be up to it. Maybe a 3rd striker role is exactly what he needs.

I'm warming to the idea. The way I look at it is simple. If it's the 75th minute, we're down a goal and we need one, would you really prefer to bring on Macheda or Welbeck, when you have the option of Mickey Owen? I don't think he'll ever be a 90-minute match man again, but as an impact sub (a free one too) we could do much worse.

If anything it shows the faith that Fergie is putting in Welbeck and Macheda - because we all know Rooney WILL break a metatarsal in the run up to the WC...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'll be disgusted watching Michael Owen wearing the United jersey. He made me support Liverpool, the horrible cunt. Hope he breaks his fucking legs, and never kicks a ball again.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

well we all hope gearrard does the same, i bet you lot thought it was great when Ince signed for you

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I've been reading this last page and most of your post,DagsJT seems to be bitter and cant accept the fact that another scouse is signing for us.Get over it.The man needs a job and if we,United, open a door for you...you dont reject it.Simple as that.Like many has said before,he has another chance to prove himself with us...to be a part of our history perhaps...

and to jonneymendoza,he would be a 'joke' if he scores against you lot.I am sure,'he wont do much' when he goes on a scoring run too.

See...this would-be Owen signing will just be like Henke Larsson a couple of seasons back.Larsson didnt do much but he was well remembered in that short period of time albeit scoring a few goals.Owen will have plenty of time with us and I can see him doing much much better than Larsson ever could.

I say hand over Ole Solskjaer's number 20 over to Owen and watch him relight his career with us.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Would you guys be happy if Van Nistelrooy signed for us?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Nah, give him number 18 or something.

 He's not having Scholes' shirt - he can have Tevez's 32 :))

Would you guys be happy if Van Nistelrooy signed for us?
I'd be suprised, but it'd be the same scenario I guess. If you'd signed Heinze from us it would have kicked off, but if you were to sign him now I don't think it would be as much of an issue.

Personally I'd be sad, cause he's my favourite player since the turn of the century, but I'd wish him all the best. And I'd be annoyed at Fergie for not getting him. This stuff happens.

I'm from Bermuda - the only good player of recent year's we've produced is Shaun Goater. And I had to watch him stick two past as a sub in the derby a few years back. If you respect a player you should respect that he's just doing his job.

Yeah well, unfortunately Real Madrid fucked everything up.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I still think we will go for Villa tbh

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Wow, it's true. He's at Carrington right now. If our physio's missed something in Saha...uh oh...

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Thats it. At the end of the day, you have to respect their job. I guess if the player scored against their former club and really milked the celebration then thats the different story.

I hope so but I cant see it happening. He prefers to stay in Spain and Barca are after him. And if he ever comes to England, it'll most likely be to Liverpool.
