Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He scored 17 times I think in the league, but that was down to Lyon themselves having a shite season.

He had a shite Euro 2008 as well admittedly, but he scared the shit out of me when they played us in the CL in 08.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He had a amazing 07/08 scoring 31 in total but then had a somewhat below par season but still managed to bag 17 league goals last year. (reminds me of someone;))) I think we need to cover 20-30 goals and Benzema would be one hell of a player to get to do it. (and yes he would be Ronaldo's replacement)

Thing is Matherto you NEED a minimum of 3 established strikers when your going to play 2 upfront like we do. Imagine if Berbatov or more likely Rooney get injured for a month. Welbeck and Macheda aren't experienced enough to carry the teams goals for a long period like that.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Always nice to see a player picking us over Real Madrid (assuming Madrid actually made an offer of any kind).

Especially a latin one as well.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Questions for the more worldly (then me):
1. How good is Benzema? I've seen him against United in CL (he was very good) and playing for France (he was not very good). For £30m I expect something pretty special.
2. Do other European teams manage to keep 3 strikers fighting for 2 positions happy? The biggest drawback of getting Benzema for me is that you can only realistically play two of Roon, Benzema and Berbatov in any given lineup. While it's great to have options on the bench, I do understand their reluctance to be left there. This problem has obviously been highlighted by a short, loud-mouthed Argentine, but does it exist elsewhere?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I'd put Benzema behind Henry and Anelka in France's picking order. He's had a disappointing year with Lyon and has failed to impress with the national side. Anything over £30 million is overpriced. He also seems like the kind of player who will not like to be benched. Don't know how SAF will cope with 3 strikers if we do get him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Seems that Benzema is off to Madrid according to Marca and AS

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

And you're reading Marca and AS because...?
Seriously, they make NOTW/Daily Mail seem like the gospel truth.

They digust me.

Not reading it, just heard about it...SkyCalcioMercato Show also confirmed that they are in advanced negotiations...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Seems done now. Benzema to Real. Poor Raul, RVN, Higuain, Guti, Sneijder, Huntelaar and Van Der Vaart.

Looks to be the 'real' deal. Does anyone actually still like Madrid after this summer? (Not that many did beforehand...)

I mean, seriously, there is no way shirt sales are going to pay off the likes of Kaka, Ronaldo, Benzema and (potentially) Ribery. They're just going to go into massive debt, and get bailed out by the Spanish government (again). Then Sepp Blatter will note how he approves of their actions, because he really quite likes them.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

They probably need to win the CL at least once in the next 3 years too. And the massive contracts they have to pay... i HATE Real.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

FFS Madrid, let someone else sign a player, you're still not gonna win anything regardless of how many Galactico's you buy.

Who the hell are we gonna buy now? Aguero? Owen?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I hope it goes through, makes Alonso's signing less likely......But it is getting ridiculous.

@ BeachRyan, I would say a:

Benzema - Berba
----Rooney-----

Set-up looks really good. They could play most games, with rooney taking over giggs'/scholes' role.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Fucking Real Madrid! there making this the worst transfer window ever

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

ITS BEEN DENIED:DD! Also they have said they have had a bid for Lyon and it might not be Real.

Sir Alex has done it again! :WORSHIP:

FANTASTIC signing!!! imo

United had competition for this capture and rightly so but they've got a man I'm sure rednose was really keen on and I would be too if I were in his position.

How often have you seen him PLF? Can you give us a insight into how good you think he can do here?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Huntelar and VdV are overrated IMO. RVN's injury has cost him his place. Raul, Higuain (who's had a fantastic season) and Benzema will probably share the starting line-up.

In a way, it's better for United. If they did sign Benzema, it would have been the Ronaldo saga all over again. He clearly fancies playing for Real more than playing for MU.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Benzema is not going to Real, he said himself that he prefers EPL !
i hope we get him

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I heard Real isnt willing to pay 40mill pounds for their number 1 target,David Villa...why are they willing to pay 40mill pounds for Benzema then? I think that story on that Spanish tabloids is bollocks.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

i read in a forum dude, in PSD, i 'll see more for link

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah if thats the story about Pjanic saying Benzema is very close to being a United player, etc then it's bollocks.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Similar to Ribery in that the weather and such makes the EPL less attractive and a bit pointless to him.

I could definitely see him wanting to go to Real more than play for us.

Don't worry with Global Warming Madrid will become too hot and arid to do anything during the day and Manchester will be sub tropical...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Manchester is fucking tropical now, it's absolutely boiling and just started with the big fat rain that you get only get when you're on holiday. :D

I think if SAF can get Ribery and Benzema over here for a chat now they might change their opinion of the weather!
