I think it's great that other fans believe United get away with things. Having been around and watched the last 10 years, I have absolutely no idea where this 'trend' comes from. I presume it's from the media, who love to highlight incidents that would otherwise not even make MOTD and play them over and over again ad nauseum pleading for a United suspension, and when it doesn't come people draw the conclusion that it's a conspiracy.
For every person on boxing day screaming at Rooney's almost elbow, where were those looking at Arca, who should have snapped Johnson's leg in two? Both players were on the pitch yesterday. I've seen more replays of Ronaldo kicking out than I have of the red card that changed the Stoke match.
Following the Amsterdam tournament, I challenge you to find a single football fan that thought Rooney deserved a red (yes Scholes probably deserved two yellows) for his jump. But hey, this was a great chance to punish that ill-disciplined, world cup costing Wayne Rooney, so the media were all over it. And low and behold, and unprecedented ban from a preseason friendly. Hell, the referee that sent him off in the CL admitted that he was trying to teach him a lesson, rather than the foul being a red. I was of the opinion that it's not some no-names referee to teach players ethics, but to referee. But what do I know.
The difference between United and other clubs is that they can't do anything and get away with it. Actions on and off the pitch that would get two lines of text in some newspapers become lead stories because they play for United.
And you know what? If that's the price we pay for winning so many titles and trophies in the past 20 years, than so be it.
