Manchester United Thread

Eh? Was gonna say how good he was today, Was on top form today IMO, If you expect more than that then I reckon you'll end up dissapointed.

possebon is shit, it was like a training game after he came on and he still couldnt keep up with it.

berbatov needs to make more runs and a shot every once in awhile but he'll find his place in the team the more he plays in it.

He could do with shooting at goal more often. He is a forward am i right?

Thats what I mean. He's playing almost like a holding midfielder but a bit further up the pitch. I didnt catch a single forward run from him and I can't remember any shots on goal. Rooney on the other hand was attacking like never before, always waiting between the center backs for that final pass. It's almost like they've swapped roles.

He was bought in to do that though, pick out the right pass for Rooney, Ronaldo etc. Yes he may need to shoot more sometimes but when you have a winger who is as clinical as Ronny it isnt a necessity.

I thought we needed a goalscorer and Berba was supposed to be the answer.
If he was bought in to do what he's doing at the moment, I'm sure there are better players out that can do the same, and not cost us £30million.

Berbatov was a traditional attacking midfielder yesterday. He wasn't really even far enough forward to call him a support striker. Bizarre.

But he was class, and should have had about 5 assists if not for some excellent keeping/terrible finishing. I wonder if that is where Fergie sees him.

I think Possebon and Gibson ended the debate over which of them has the brightest future at United. A big fat neither.

Anyone else think it was funny how United were trying desperately to get ando a goal? One day...

Just bloody frustrating watching Berbatov to be honest, but when Rooney wants to be as attack minded as possible then I don't mind.

When Wazza is on form, there aren't many that can touch him. Lets hope he hits it eh?

Oh and it's also bloody frustrating that we're not gonna buy Tevez.

bit harsh on possebon and gibson...

both are decent young players, possebon is a good passer of the ball and has a decent shot on him...

gibson does better in a more defensive role, but is a good passer and also has a good shot, worth pointing out that despite his age he has been seen worthy of a call up by the national coach, a certain Trapattoni...

gotta back the young players!

I dont think the team is making the best use of Berba, we will see what he's about in the coming months, maybe even next season...

Tvez isnt worth the money anywhere near £30mill and £125k a week, for a 3rd/4th string striker, no chance, and then for an agent to receive the fee doesnt seem right to me....

we could get Benzema for that!

Maybe Sir Alex wants to convert Berba to be Cantona-esque to bring the best out of Rooney? It was really apparent yesterday on the gameplan with Berba playing like a playmaker.

If Tevez wasnt offered a new deal before his loan runs out then I am positive we are bringing in another forward come summer.

@ Phrase - thinking the same thing, and wondering if it's Fergie's answer to Ronaldo leaving. Maybe next season we'll play a 4-2-2-1 with actual wingers (Ronaldo is clearly pouting at Fergie having the audacity of asking him to get to the byline and whip crosses in) and Berba sitting in the hole. I know Southampton were far from great opposition, but my lord Berba was class last night. I think knowing that he is there and able to pass like that would ease Rooney's urges to come back, and playing wingers who stay wide would free up the space there (or leave them single-marked) as opposed to when Park/Ronaldo always comes into the box area. Anyway, just a thought...

 Cmon? Tosic LM? We havnt seen the lad play. Ronaldo will be here while SAF is at the club Which is another 2 or max 3 seasons. Fergie didnt bring in Berba to be a poacher, He wanted someone to bring out the best in Rooney and IMO there isnt a better player than Berba to do that (Ibrahimovic is similar but we werent going to get him).

If Berba gets himself 20 goals this season then he's been a success simple as.

Last Season

Ronaldo 42
Tevez 19
Rooney 18
= 79

This Season

Ronaldo 25
Rooney 25
Berba 20
Tevez 15
= 85

I think those figures for this season are a bit hopeful mate and anyway, Fletcher will finish top scorer mark my words! ;)

I thought Berba was awesome yesterday, his touch and holding up of the ball were superb and if the lads had managed to finish a few more of the chances he made with the various little flicks everyone would be going on about the masterclass he'd put on. I do agree he needs to score a bit more, but only Fergie knows exactly what role he had in mind when he bought him and maybe it's not as clear cut as we think. I keep hearing people mentioning we needed a goal scorer but that's a fat load of bollocks as your figures show YoungGun. With Welbeck playing on the shoulder and pulling wide, Berbatov had so much space to work with and play the midfield in and it worked really well, it's just a matter of accomodating Rooney and Ronaldo into that with out stunting each of their games too much.

I personally think that our players will hit that. Nani's already matched his last seasons tally of 4, Fletcher has got a few aswell.

cant believe you guys are letting go of tevez like that (also shows how much luxury you lot have)

The new comments from Tevez are strange, very out of character with all the previous ones. His line before has always been I'm very happy, we'll sort it out when the time is right. Now he's basically come out and said look, I'm a mercenary, so if someone offers me more money I'll do that. I don't begrudge him that right, but I do begrudge paying over the odds to who knows who for a player that, let's be honest, would not make into most people's top 10 forward players on Earth lists. But his price tag is.

For me its Kia Joorchabian up to his dirtyness. I mean, where does that money even go? It's not like we're forcing some club to give up their prize asset. We're forcing some rich f*ck who exploits naive young players to get sensible. If Real will really pony up £32m for him, they can have him. If we've already payed £20 odd million in wages, then that should come out of his 'transfer' fee.

I love Tevez and think he's a credit to the game. But I don't want to see United get thrown over a barrel by some creep like his owner.

Tevez is never gonna get fifteen, Berba definitely wont get twenty, the other two you just never know.

Why not? He's got 8 already? You dont think he can score another 7 goals with around 30 games to go? Berba's on 7 but i can see him getting 13, He's a player who normally plays better in the 2nd half of seasons.

I think Tevez will sign, It depends what the 32M fee is, does it include the 10M loan or doesnt it. If it does then meaning we pay 22M now then I guess thats a fair sum for him. I can only name 2 strikers who are gettable and better players and if Rooney was to get a injury we would be fucked again.
