Sorry Van as much as i like Wes, id pick Rio over him any day.

fair enough, but as manc and coming from the same place im very pro Wes Brown..

I will say though that they are two different types of defenders, Rio is a much more classy player he prefers to intercept rather than clatter players, where as Wes will just go thru the player and the ball, plus he wins alot more balls in the air.

where did u find that mate??
its probably uniteds new away shirt for next season

Difficult choice for Scholes on Monday regarding violent conduct charges in 3-2 loss to Boro. He faces a possible 3 game ban which could see him miss games against Charlton, Liverpool and Blackburn. SHould he appeal he may miss the Cup final.

Thats a hard one, I'm not gonna say we dont need him for the final but we know we're there already with 2nd place still up for grabs and The Championship still not won (for all the bleeting from down south  ) I'd say we need him for the league games.....

I think ;)

i would rather scholesy for the cup final - i am really expecting one hell of a game cos millwall have nothing to lose because everyone (not us btw) have written them off. he's the type of player who can make a difference in a difficult game.
hope he doesnt get the 3 matches but knowing the fa and us he'll probably get 6 :P ;)

Barthez offers some insight in to his time at United:

“I did have a little period in my last season with United when I thought stopping would not be a bad thing. I questioned myself, saying ‘Come on, I'll go home to my village, live my life in peace’. My third and last season with United was the hardest. I was really tired, especially in my head. I had played flat-out for 10 years. My third year with United was not fantastic but it was reasonable. The body and the mind set their limits. The next time I feel how I did 18 months ago will be the right moment to quit the game. Sir Alex told me he didn’t want to see photos of me in the stand, that I had a wife and child and would be more useful in France than there. I have had no explanation because I’m not the sort to ask. I always wait for the manager to come to me, because he is the boss. He has his reasons and I don’t seek to know. Ferguson is someone I respect enormously. He was always honest with me. He has never held the Champions League elimination by Real against me. I have spoken to him two or three times on the phone since I left. I was calling the club for various bits of admin and, when he was near the secretary, she put him on. He congratulated me after my first match for Marseille. There’s no problem between us. I didn’t look to leave. I continued to do my job normally. I had a free hand to work as I liked at United. He saw I was working hard. He has eyes everywhere. Nothing escapes him at United, nor in England. It wasn’t a punishment. It was a managerial decision that does not prevent mutual respect. When the offer from Marseille came in, he told me ‘Go ahead, you deserve it’.”

I've gotta say in his first season he was great for us but (unlike) Fergie I blame him for the United V Real game last year amongst other things and I'm glad he's no longer with us, but wish him all the best (lol like he gives a shit) and if Marsellie ever play us at home he'll get a round of applause from me.

hey that kit is from the sun newspaper and it says united will also release a new home kit in may and in the sg forums it says its the usa tour kit i hope it is cos united deserve betta

Speaking of the USA tour, I really enjoyed the last tour. When we beat the likes of Juventus and Barcelona. It really give us confidence for the start of the season.

In the first half of the season we had the best defensive record, we were also at the top of the table for quite awhile.
Ruud personally had a so-so season, he also hit the crossbar taking a really important penalty which would've put the poop on a certain impressive unbeaten run. Lucky lucky. ;)

You got me wrong, when I said Van I meant the Van in this forum, the gobby one.

As for the real Van missing a pen, thats life mate. He has only got himself to blame if he can't hit the target from 12 yards. Plus in any sort of run you need a little bit of luck.

You also forget justice was done as it was never a pen in a million years!!!

Indeed, luck is needed to perform such a feat.
While I'm not gonna comment on wether it was a penalty or not, I am gonna say that Ruud was taking a chance kicking it so high. But Lehman did block his penalty in Charity Cup, so maybe that was in his mind.

Not so sure mate, according to Van you have been "terrible" all season.

we have been terrible all season, I've been to every home game and there hasnt been a memorable performance among any of them, the one that stands out is the first one cos that was the first time I saw Ronaldo.

I'm used to us playing good football, its our tradition, its what we are known for....

Red fan offers his perspective on Pompey:

Principally and despite me wanting to love him for May 26th 1999, Teddy Sheringham proved to the world what he is and always has been, second-rate, laughably lauding his scant consolatory goal in front of the Arsenal fans.

If that was bad then listening to Portsmouth's happy clappy new-fan supporters 'great escape' their way through the second-half in between applauding Arsenal's players was as big a death knell for football as I've heard or seen.

They will, of course, retort that Manchester United supporters gave Ronaldo a standing ovation at Old Trafford last season but they'd be missing the point. That was a World Player of the Year who'd destroyed the nations premier football team with just three touches. He deserved respect.

Lets get things in order, Portsmouth are just a shitty provincial team whose shitty provincial fans creamed themselves on live TV when being dumped, and they were severely dumped, out of a domestic competition. Arsenal, if they are as good as we're led to believe, should have beaten them by at least five. No questions, no mass ejaculations.

No finer or more sickening display of 'aren't we great cos we're shit' nineties football fan behaviour have we seen outside Maine Rd / Eastlands.

Don't get me wrong though, this is not an attack on Portsmouth designed to get a reaction, it's just that Portsmouth happen to fit quite neatly into the mould of a club that epitomises everything wrong about promotion and relegation. On Saturday we will hopefully aid Portsmouth's rightful fall back into Division One.

Harsh? Let me offer an explanation.

The Premiership is dubbed so for a reason, it contains, or rather should contain, the nations premier clubs. Consequently it would be unthinkable for Leeds to go down and it shouldn't happen. Likewise I'm pleased that Southampton have managed to consolidate when for years it looked as though we'd lose them too. West Ham and the Sheffield clubs, despite Wednesday's band, are sad losses to a once great league. They are proper decent sized clubs worthy of their Premiership status.

Their crowds alone prove this, Southampton have consistently filled St Mary's and Leeds, despite all looking lost, have had very impressive crowds that their plight doesn't deserve. Fair play to both of them but more importantly the supporter to jester's hat / face-paint ratio is low. Portsmouth have historically small crowds but an evidently high number of plums if their FA Cup and League visits to OT count for anything.

It's the not the same at Everton, Tottenham, Forest (please can we have them back!), Sheffield United or West Ham. Big clubs and whilst they have their share of knob-heads they'd never be caught dead applauding the side mauling theirs in the cup and they certainly wouldn't do so in crazy wigs and fancy-dress. As well as that I'm betting you can get Fratton Park to 'stand up if you hate the Turks'! I rest my case.

Something should be done and whilst I don't condone what goes on in Glasgow/Belfast I'm all for a bit of mild-sectarianism in football.

Singing "5-0 and you still won't sing" to Arsenal fans is probably thought to be quirky on the South Coast, a bit cutting-edge, but in doing so they pigeon-hole themselves along-side the Swindon's and Barnsley's of this world. In defence of Arsenal, only where Portsmouth and their ilk are concerned, "who the fuckin hell are you?"

The cure? Let's banish these awful little outpost clubs.

In the Premiership Portsmouth aren't alone so lets not center our wrath on them, for starters the Midlands sides should be banned from at least the top two tiers of the game if recent exposures to Birmingham, Wolves and historically, but perhaps not to the same extent, Villa supporters are anything to go by, all seriously small-time and an embarrassment to themselves and their clubs. They've had their one-year Premiership season ticket all of five minutes and they delight in questioning Manchester United's support because they've seen Rory McGrath, Frank Skinner and Nick Hancock do it on telly.

If you need any more help spotting one you can always tell a desperately small and insignificant club because their fans also go all out to prove that their local derby is the most important, passionate and intimidating of them all. I refer, in the case of Portsmouth, to their recent 'rioting' after victory over Southampton.

They get their first win in what isn't even a proper derby since god knows when and they mark it by throwing stuff at the police. A few kids chucking stones at the authorities or spitting at Southampton's coaches constitutes historical passion in the eyes of supporters from clubs such as Portsmouth, when in fact the rest of the world didn't and never will care.

Anyway, what's the moral to this rant? The moral is that it's about time we allowed some proper football clubs back into the Premiership by default. Bring on Forest, Sheff Utd or even QPR. Lets be rid of these tin-pot clubs with their terrace bands, 'back in the big-time' merchandise and self-depreciating 'humour'. They are very small clubs purpose built by nature for the very small leagues.

That said a Champions League qualifier in Eastern Europe and the threat of city going down are very very appealing. I've changed my mind - play up Pompey! How does that great escape tune go again?

Enjoy the game…

lol.

Who do you guys think that Manchester need to bring in for next season?
I personally think we need a bit more depth in the back four. Maybe a new left back? I also think that we need someone who could play left wing when Giggs isn't available (never should've let Duff go to the blues).
And playmaking-type of midfielder. I hope that Kleberson will be able to fit into this role next season, but just in case ...

I heard on TV just now that Howard will be missing the rest of the season because he's got tourette again and will be in the US for the time being. Anyone heard about this?

Van der Vaart would be ideal but i doubt we'd get him since his love for playing only for Barcelona.
Id like to see United go in for someone like Joe Cole. Hes got all the potential there. Just needs someone to guide him and im sure Fergie could do that.

I've had a sneaking feeling that his tourette had something to do with not playing.
Howard's mother said that the symptoms have been increasing over the course of his stay at club. Probably due to increasing stress of big matches, losses ect. I'm assuming.

Here's the story concerning his current condition: http://www.skysports.com/skysports/article/0,,7-1131542,00.html

I hope his United career dosent get shortened by this illness, its sad that there is no cure for it.

Matteo Ferrari for United? I hope so cos he's terrific.
