Manchester United Thread

What the fuck is it meant to be anyway? Are those foreheads supposed to resemble those fake Konami players "Gigs" and "Scoles"?
It was such a lame attempt to try and correct the first bad spelling.

Perhaps he'd been playing ISS Pro 98

Anyway Bayern play Real Madrid so only one of them will get thru, so another decent team (along with Man Utd and Juve) will be out.

Monaco and Moscow arent good teams yet one of them will make the QFs, so will Lyon, who only had to play to Sociedad. Compare the probable QFists to last years, Ajax, Real, Arsenal, Valencia, Inter, Man Utd, Juve, Milan. UEFA have made a mess of the CL by removing the 2nd group stage and replacing it with a knock out.

help guys, i have some idiot who is trying to tell me the Washington Redskins are worth more than man u, can someone point me to a website where it proves that manu is worth more?

Csaunders - you are right. ManU is first, but Redskins are second z(they were first last year, I believe) according to a new Deloitte and Touche report that came out last week. Do an internet search and you will find it.

No way, far more exciting. Had there been a second group stage Man Utd would have worn teams down and ground out results, it's much more exciting now, instead of the same teams year after year.

Agree with ClassicD on this.

It was a wize move from UEFA. I don't know what edmundo meant with "decent" teams but decent teams are the ones who win matches. Final.

Knockout gives a fair change to everyone and makes everything more exciting.

Those were the days when the Champions League was INDEED a Champions tournament: Only champion teams facing eatchother in thrilling knockout rounds. Those were in fact the days of nice decent soccer.

UEFA should do us all a favour and change the name of the competition from champions league (very misleading), to "uefa decent cup"

The bottom line is you have a home and an away game , giving you a fair opportunity and 180 minutes to stake your claim. Juventus and ManU didn't stake it, and that's all there is to it.

Kinda sad cuz i would a liked seeing all the big boys throw down, but such is life. Winners advance.

I'm made up you miserable twats went out!!  , But look on the bight side! None of you you fools live anywhere near manchester anyway, And you guys are as plastic as Jordans tits!

I expect most of you guys to Jump on the arsenal bandwagon now!!

Bad luck last night boys, those diving sods are going through, and thats that. Few points to make.

Stasman etc - Liverpool haven`t won a proper trophy for YEARS. End of United`s empire? End of Fergie? Get over it. We can`t win the big competitions EVERY YEAR. This ain`t Scotland, there is proper competition. United are constantly under the spotlight - we are a huge force that every team LOVES to beat. Thats what I love about being a United fan, we are the team everyone LOVES to hate. Just like the English rugby team - because they are the world champions, everyone is waiting for them to fall. No-one gives a shite about L`pool these days. Oh, look, its another BIG night on C5, with top-class opposition. You scousers are so jealous of our better players, our bigger stadium, our better manager, our Premiership campaigns etc. You all root for Arsenal to win all the trophies - SUPPORT YOUR OWN TEAM. I never support other teams!???? It`s United and nothing else. I see scousers down the pub most weeks, supporting the team that is playing against United - that is just sad. I would never leave the comfort of my own home, to watch L`pool lose in Europe - I couldn`t give a shite if they win, lose or draw. Anyway, Arsenal have too much class this season, and they can only let themselves down now. As for the Semi-Final, its ALL ON THE DAY. It will be a cracker.
Oh scousers, we have ANOTHER Champions League campaign to look forward to next season! It is crap being a United fan, isn`t it. Roll on Channel 5 . . . . . .

eh sweetheart,we're still in europe.you on the other hand...well...

any of you guys have any photo of mourinho showing MU fans 'the fingers' at the end of the match??? that must have appeared in newspappers around there...

i'm almost sure it was...here we've seen the replays a few times and always get that impression. sports newspappers also criticised his attitude, so...

Now, I don't pop into this thread very often, but I hope someone can enlighten me as to why people think A.Fergie should be sacked.

According to the current Soccernet.com poll, 55% of the people responding think that he should go....

.... now this just doesn't make sense, is he really doing all that bad?... I mean, SCUM are going to get second something that doesn't happen all that often and with a significantly weaker team than he has had lately. Plus, he seems to have sufficiently reloaded for the future with the new players in the first team... Howard, Ronaldo, Fletcher, Saha, all players already showing their potential.

Being in the USA, we don't hear about Ferguson every day... I assume the whole "stud" thing may have soured people's taste for him, but c'mon, the guy is one of the top coaches in the world, I doubt that SCUM will be able to successfully replace him as it is so rare that coaching legends are ever followed by another.

So can someone please explain what all the hub-bub is about?

Some people now believe that hes losing the plot, simple as that

I personally believe that he should have left at the end of last season, or even the season before. Not because he's suddenly a bad manager, but because the only way is down from here. I very much doubt that he'll ever be able to pull off another treble, and quite frankly this is probably the worst Man Utd team of the last 10 years. He's also made some slightly dodgy decisions in the last couple of years, and I just think that he should have gone out in a blaze of glory and looked for another challenge, maybe managing Scotland and taking them to the World Cup in 2006...

...blimey, now that really is what I call a challenge!

Football.Bloody Hell.United should have got that second goal,we really should have, cause that would have killed them. Our defence was good enough last nite, thumbs up to them for their effort especially Gary and Wes.My opinion for the Porto goal was down to T.Ho's poor positioning and even that,he made good ground to palm it,but that was the problem. Why the hell he did that for,he should have punched it away from the goal mouth or parry it to the side for a corner.90th min, leading one nil, safety should be a priority.Costly mistake T.Ho,but at 24 he still has a lot to learn and time is on his side.We should have a world class keeper in a couple of seasons in him, rest assured.Poor champions league for us this season,at least last season, this stage,we went out courtesy of Real Madrid not some scum,dirty-tactics using, cheating bunch of footballers from portugal.Good luck to them but I dont think they can go all the way,not in this lifetime.

This arrogance and thinking you are so much superior it's what kill you...

The second goal???? Did you not see that Rudd fouled Ricardo Carvalho???? you only see what you want to see... then the ball got to scholes and he wasn't offside, but God writes good by stray lines...

Portuguese players are cheaters???? You have one of the best portuguese cheaters in your squad and I don't ear you complain... you guys make me sick... where is the british fair play???? ManUtd were outplayed in the 1st game and only luckly lost by 2-1 it should have been 4 or 5, you were totally massacrated, it was a slaughter...

What made me most happy was to see the face of your "sir" fergusson... what an arrogant prick, greedy bastard, a man that can't recognize the merit of the other team and the demerit of their players, players like Keane, a trully cheater, a guy that I cannot call a Man... Who is this guy to criticize anyone (young manutd players) after all the shitty things he as done in is carrer???

GROW UP...

FC PORTO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Go Arsenal for the premiership title

Go Chelsea for the second place...

Man Utd... go to hell you poor loosers

Brilliantly said. Manure have the biggest diver around, and then they blast everyone else for diving.

Ninja, it don't matter what channel we're on, we're in Europe, and we're favourites to make the 4th place spot anyway. I never said a word about Ferguson, i still think he is the right manager to turn things around, but he has made some poor decisions over the last couple of years.

honestly there should be a man utd haters thread or something

I don't think that there's enough bandwidth in the universe to host that...

good one ;) , something should be sorted though i think

Seriously though, I made a similar comment about the Liverpool thread after it was hijacked by Utd fans and was told:

Eatontj,

The best sign of a declining manager is what happened to mister Fergie this weeks: too much smartass conference presses with psico mumbo jumbo and almos inexistant "homework", studying the adversary, discovering his strong and weak points.

That happens to almost all managers. Too many victories and age bring relax. One they their team pays the price. Fergie focused to much on "diving" bullshit and how Porto bought their Titles as easy as buying a "bottle of milk", which resulted in poor attention to Porto's evident qualities.

He doesn't even had the excuse of facing the "unknown", as every managher in europe should know Porto by now due to last year unquestionable UEFA sucess (with episodes like the 4-1 armaggedon over a Lazio that wasn't doing bad in Serie A).

Do you remeber that time when Fergie refered a diferent israeli team than the one he was facing the next day? another example of a declining manager who stopped doing his homework.

Thanks for the responses about Ferguson, I was completely bumfuzzled about why people want him ousted, but I've got a better idea now.

Still think that sacking him would be a mistake as he would be hard to replace AND he is doing a pretty solid job while missing his defense.... but hey that's just me.

SCUM seem to have the same problem as Liverpool right now and that's lacking defensive support. Attacking's just not the same without it.

The Gary Neville Diaries

Thursday March 11 2004

It's been a difficult week for the Neviller. Here's his in-no-way-made-up-at-all diary of the week - including a terrible accident with a non-permanent marker...

GN.jpg

Friday
Put the cones out for Sir today and he glanced at me. Made me feel special. He never looks at Phil like that. Told Mum and she said I have to share but that's not fair because I got to the cones first. Moustache looks a bit thicker today.

Saturday
Won today but I didn't play Watched MUTV all night to see whether Sir said he missed me. Am sure they edited it out. Hung out with Rio until he told me to 'go away innit'. Will tell Sir tomorrow. Deffo not a penalty today - gave that girl Boa Morte a nasty stare after the game to let him know that I know. Man in wheelchair laughed at my moustache. Cried myself to sleep.

Sunday
Took Sir an apple. But Weasley gave him a bottle of red wine so he'll probably play on Tuesday. Creep. Went to Mum's for dinner but she tried to make me eat sprouts and then laughed when I banged my fists on the kitchen lino. She won't laugh again. Read Sir's book in bed. Coloured in moustache with marker. Looks manly.

Monday
Rained at training. Marker wasn't permanent.

Tuesday (early)
Playing tonight so was definitely worth washing bibs for Sir. Looked at papers and I was in them again! Will put in scrapbook. So glad I said Porto don't act like men. Am really getting good at this mind games business. Photo on back of The Sun made my moustache look thin but Mum says it's just the ink. She says I look handsome.

Tuesday (late)
Not fair. Not fair. Not fair. It was a goal and we should have won and someone pushed me and someone tried to hurt Ronaldo and the girls dived on the floor and the referee blew the whistle before we could score and they celebrated in front of OUR fans and that made me so angry but I had to go and tell the TV that they deserved it (they didn't and I had my fingers crossed. Ha!). It's just not fair because we're the best team in the whole wide world.

Have given Philip a Chinese burn for that free-kick and told Sir to sell him.

Wednesday
Sir not happy today. He didn't even cheer up when I gave him my drawing. Wonder if he'll put it on his fridge with the others? Saw a small boy laughing at me so held him down until he said that Manchester United were the best team in the whole wide world. Feel better now. Bought some Re-Gane and put on top lip. Can't wait until the morning to see my bushy, manly 'tache.

Thursday
Phoned David to ask him to ask Elton about hair transplants. He said he was 'too busy preparing for the quarter-finals of the Champions League'. Am going to tell Sir and then I'm going to fly to Spain and then hold him down until he says that Manchester United are the best team in the whole wide world. And I'm going to take back the Man United sovereign ring I sent him for Christmas.

Update: Mum says I can't go to Spain.
