Djemba has played at right back for us before, and Fergie has been playing him there for the reserves.

Lots of depth in the squad doesn't always mean a quality replacement, especially for Rio and Silvestre. Wes has needed time to adjust, O'Shea is not used to playing centre back and non of the others you mention is a renowned centre back which is clearly Man Utd's weakness at the moment, as recent results clearly show. I'm not complaining though!
 
You haven't mentioned Nistelrooy yet...won't he play agaist Porto? He's the biggest nightmare along with Giggs...the result will depend on how Saha and C.Ronaldo will play and how MU's new defense are abble to stop Porto...anyway Derlei and Maciel can't play and they only have two CF's, McCarthy and Jankauskas who are NOTHING compared to Nistelrooy!

Sure it will be a good game to watch!

Butt could slot into defensive mid if the boss decides to play Keano at the back.Quite strong attacking line up dont you think? forget our defensive woes,we play ala Madrid!!! Forza United!!!
 
Soundtracker, U r comparing one of the best (if not the best) strikers in the world along with Henry, Ronaldo and Sheva with the strikers of Porto, but remember one player does not makes a team. BTW, McCarthy + Jankauskas are better than Sokota + Nuno Gomes ;) .

I'm sure you have a small idea of how many injuries Sokota and N.Gomes have suffered this (and others) season. But they are recovering well now and soon you'll see who's right!...just remember the goals scored by each of them and how they play for the team...

And you're right about one player not making a team, and that's porto's biggest weapon...don't have world class players but a strong compact team!...but Ruud can always decide a match by his own!

I do not agree, Porto do have world class players, Deco to name the biggest name they have.
 
skipping work tommorow to watch the game here in the states! i cant wait, this is my first season of watching champions league, so excited, i hope ruud rips one, so i can shout ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuud at the top of my lungs when i get home and annoy my roomates!!
 
I`m not looking forward to the Porto game after our defensive frailties of late. No Silvestre, no Rio, man it don`t look too good. I hope the power of Ruud and Louis up-front can do the business - it`s gonna be a good game, Porto have some quality players.

Oh, we play Fulham in the next round of the FA Cup after they "hammered" West Ham 3-0. Should be interesting . . . . .
 
I think Deco is a great player but you can't compare him to other players like Totti,Zidane,...You have to remember he's been playing in porto for a long time and hasn't proved much yet...see him playing in the national team and see the differences...as i said he's a bit inconsistance and not playing as he was last year. Let's hope he plays well in euro04.

I'm sure porto will sell him at the end of the season and that's why they're preparing Carlos Alberto to be the next nº10 and he'll be a great player too. Then we'll see what Deco will do in a major league...

Anyway Deco might well make the difference tomorrow...
 
Soundtracker, Deco has almost never played his position in the national team. Always played along with Rui Costa and only against England he played the second half as the only OMF. BTW remeber against Brazil?

Is that the example you have to give to show how Deco plays? Sorry man, i have nothing agaist Deco and has i said he's a great player but you have to agree with me on this. He only plays like that in porto and he'll have problems of adaptation to another team like he's having in the national team!...time will tell!

Anyway he's playing well in porto and that's the only thing that matters to you right?! postiga was a great player in porto too...like i said you don't have world class players but you have a coach that makes them play as if they were...imagine what he could do with some players like Benfica has...even he said that if we'd given him more time here...with more 3 or 4 players he could turn Benfica to the old european monster we used to be!
 
Brazil isn´t a good example, but he scored a goal. A good example of how Deco plays is the UEFA Cup final. But u r saying Porto hasn´t world class players but Benfica has??!?!? You must be out of your mind. From Benfica only two players have place in the Porto squad and they are Tiago and Simão, and even those probably wouldn´t be in the starting eleven. Every other single player of Porto is better than Benfica´s corresponding, and that is objectively proven (Wins).

If thats true Man Utd will lose some of that drive that Keane creates so well in midfield. But he can read the game well so should steady the ship at the back for this crucial CL game.
 
Lack luster,no commitment,no desire,cant keep the ball for any amount of time to get some posession,Saha and Van Nistelrooy looked a million miles a part together,1 shot all game ,Keane loosing is head..all gone pear shaped for us and i think things will only get worse before we get better:(


So sad to watch at the mo:(.

Another point i want to make about tonights game is that about the Man U bench.

In the past we have seen Brian Kidd,Steve Mclaren and Carlos Queiroz all in the technical area on there feet barking out orders at the team and continuing to do so for most of the 90 mins.
Yet tonight Fergie,Mike Phealan,Tony Coton was all sitting down for most of the 90 mins and i only seen Fergie jump up about twice in the whole evening and never once did ya see any of them barking any orders or giving any signals what so ever.
This just strengthens the point that we need a new number 2.
Some one who will be on his feet most of the 90 mins giving out instructions and talking to the team ,as its very clear that any of Fergies present members of staff just dont look interested.

Just my opinion of course.

Possibly, when Keane is missing you can really see it too. Gary Neville is the only other leader I can see. He's the only one who you see rattling players and shaking some arses into place anyway. Howard also lets us know when we aren't performing to be fair as well, but he can't really influence the game that much.

hey Manc's i have a question for you. what is the official Man U theme song? i just finished watching the movie EuroTrip, and have a hard time believing that the song in there is the real theme song. They are singing Sheena Easton's - Morning Train.
