Manchester United Thread

without the first choice defenders in Silvestre and Rio ... ManUtd look very frail. Sorta like the way Arsenal's title challenge crumbled when Campbell got banned and Vieira (though not a CB) got injured last season. hmmm...

Maybe you can't watch Champions League ruffneck cos you've got "basic cable" as you yanks call it.

jeezzz...ManUtd didn't play shit tonight!!! are they playing like that in EPL? Nistelrooy,keane,scholes,...i think only Saha played well.
Anyway now you see an example of the power of portuguese teams...one weak later Benfica kicked porto's ass but coudn't get more than a tie and Sporting also won ManU 4-0 (i think) some months ago...
I'm sure Fergusson won't be your coach for too long and let me guess who the new MU coach will be...Mourinho from Porto!!...

Just don't understand how a team with players of the quality ManUtd have, can play so badly like tonight

hope next year Benfica will play in CL with any english team...Liverpool would be great...to remember the old times ;)

Anyway i still think MU have good chances to eliminate Porto in Old Trafford...

I think although Man Utd looks shaky this season they should not find great excuses.

Porto isn't the shite ppl think of (still). I'm a Sporting fan but I have no problem admiting Porto is a hell of a team, with a (disgusting) but fab coach in a whole new international level far above what Fergie believed.

A cautious soccer follower would have seen in last season Porto UEFA campaign the signs that, with this year's signings and the permanence of Mourinho, a stronger Porto would attack the CL.

Last season Porto 4-1 Lazio and also the final against Celtic were perfect signs that Porto is a team to face any challenger, as well as their display in santiago bernabeu this season, still in the group stage.

Although it's true what Sound says (porto was outclassed in recent home derbies) Porto is well above national competions, and can afford do focus entirely in Europe.

Make no mistake about it: Porto display tonight wasn't the result of an astrologic fortune: I strongly believe that if they have had their full team (they missed 3,4 first teamers!) and specially Derlei, they would have shmashed Man Utd like no one has smashed lately.

expect no easy game at old trafford.. unless Baia's tight gay shorts prevent him of reaching an easy ball :).

i dont think he meant to do something like that, still shouldnt be straight red

Porto playing with Maciel and Derlei as wingers would have SMASHED ManUnited! But I seriously doubt they could do that to Arsenal for example or any big italian team. After the CL group phase, Mourinho said he wanted to play against MU...he knew exactly why, and he studied very well the team (wich i doubt Fergusson did with Porto) mantaining ball possession, keeping the ball low, and we all saw MU's english playing style is very limited and couldn't adapt to Porto's game.

diouf26...take a closer look to the replay...yes, he mean to do that!! and the red card he deserved! you should already know keano's famous fair-play

Be sure to have serious difficulties winning the 2nd game in Old Trafford cause Porto defends very well also. They'll probably play with Costinha (their best DM) instead of Carlos Alberto.

He should be ashamed of doing such thing. He's the captain,a player with lot international fotball experience and now he won't play in old trafford...that doesn't help United much does it?

'FC Porto coach Jose Mourinho taunted Sir Alex Ferguson after his Manchester United side were soundly beaten 2-1 in their Champions League clash in Portugal. Ferguson confronted Mourinho over Porto goalkeeper Vitor Baia's role in Roy Keane's 87th minute dismissal. 'I understand why he is a bit emotional', Mourinho said. 'You would be really sad if your team gets as clearly dominated as that by an opponent who has been built on maybe 10% of the budget.'

He'll probably get 3 games for that and miss the next round if they go through.

Only saw the first half, was Roy Keane's stamp really that bad??

I didn't notice it at first but he didn't argue and he didn't need to put his foot on him. The keeper did play act a bit though.

Well acting like that (and much worse) makes a big part of porto's 'game'. In portuguese league too, so they always have non-existing yellow and red cards shown to the other teams, non-existant free-kicks,...that's one of the caracteristics of porto...they don't have any idea of what 'fair-play' and has Mourinho says...'to win we'll do ANYTHING'.
It's true that Keane deserved that red but you all saw Baía´s reaction, as you saw others during the whole match.
Let me just tell you that in the last years of derby's between Porto and Benfica there's always a goal that comes from some 'ghost free-kick' or some Benfica player is always sent off wrongly like this year after the referee shown red card to Ricardo Rocha after Deco dive, in the replay you could clarly see there wasn't the slightest touch between the two players.Last year Eder was sent off after a 'ghost-foul' and from the consequent free-kick came the victory goal and a 2nd yellow card to Eder.
Porto plays like that but you know something?...it really works!!
A new concept of football...'Mourinho Style' :x

Misfit, the difference between me and you is that I do not make ludicrous predictions every game, like saying we`ll hammer teams 3-0 (Portsmouth anyone?) I went into last nights game hoping we wouldn`t concede more than 2. Which we didn`t. Now we`ll take Porto home, and hopefully give them a game. But at least I get to enjoy Champions League football year-in, year-out. Channel 5 for you . . . . . .

On last nights performance, well, we were shite and Keane should know better. He is supposed to be our captain and lead by example. Saha was good, Fortune worked hard, but as for the others - did they touch the ball at all?

Well as anticipated we didnt do well last nite, by a long shot as it stands. At least we are consistently bad lol. But i've no complaints really, we didnt derseve to win, Keano should have been sent off and Ferge needs to stop smoking the herb before his post match press conferences..

Saying that although Porto played well I cant see us playing that bad at home and with an away goal under I belt I still fancy us to go on to the next round..

The Keane sending off might be a blessing, especially in The Prem cos Fergie will have no need to rest him for CL games.

Is a red card in The CL a three game ban??

LMAO

Well its right, his defense of Keano was that Keano "wasnt that sort of guy" I mean c'mon FFS Keano is a nutter and thats why we love him.

Dont get me wrong I'm a huge supporter of Keano, and if we we're to win another European Cup while he was playing he would go down as the gretatest United Player of all time but after what Keano did, then wrote about after his "incident" with Haaland the guy is a permanent GBH suspect.

Too right, Keano is world-class, but he has to keep his head. He is the captain for God Sake. Also, what is it with Giggs of late, he ain`t doing much in the games he is playing in. Is it time for Robben to come to Old Trafford . . . .

dont give them the chance to play act, for instance dont intentionally stand on there keeper?
What, you mean don't try and tackle them at all? You can't legislate for an opponent who is concentrating more on winning a foul and putting your name in the book than getting past you, even the other Portuguese lads on here say this is a Porto™. Yeah Keane stood on the keeper, and deserved to go, but Baia made a right meal of it, he never 'stamped' he put his weight on him as he jumped over. The ONLY aim of behaviour like that is to get the opposition player booked or sent off, it just leaves a bad taste in the mouth when you have players writhing around in agony, etc.

I did told you guys, the hunger and passion was not there anymore, that spirit of 1999.We are just dodgy at the moment, dodgy is the word.Paolo Ferreira, our reported target was superb down the right flank, superb player, fast, defends and attacks well too,get him Fergie, plus Arjen Robben too...time for some 'old' faces to leave.
