Manchester United Thread

Its all a load of shite talk, what goes around comes around in football. A few seasons back Scholes had a perfectly sound goal disaloud against Porto and United got knocked out.

Lille are bound to be angry but things like this happen, I'm just glad there were no serious injuries in the crowd that was the big problem tonight

This needs to be said in here too.

The only person wanting the Lille team to leave the field was 1 member of their coaching staff, and he was wrong to do it.

A few members of the team, ran over to see what was going on, and if you look at the other Lille players on the pitch they do not want to go off.

Manager Claude Puel, isn't calling them off, the captain Tafforeau runs across to talk to the Staff member, other players were nearby anyway so they come over the other 4-5 members of the team made no appoach to come off.

I agree this ruling is a massive grey area, and needs sorting, so that everyone in football knows the rules.

oh come on!!!!

dont give me that bullcrap! Intimadation isnt just leaving the field, its surrounding and hounding the ref, its insulting referees, its pre match pressure from managers and he and his team have been doing it for years, to such an extent that United get most decisions.

Just be honest and admit it because they do.

the ref was not biased, in fact i thought he was excellent, Rooney was taken down in the box in the first half, he played advantage and rooney skyed it over. Then Lile scored a goal of a clear push, not a dive by vidic. I havent read one substancive news report or commentator that alludes or even discusses the posiblity that vidic dived. This is something that is regurgatating from your liverpool bloodlines. Your acting as irrational as the Lile fans because of your hatred for United. And it shows...

i agree man, it looked like one big mis-communication.

We won with a genuine goal nonetheless. What small team mentality? This is the last 16 for God's sake.If you think your team is small, give us a bye and we'll gladly accept it.Antred, you come in here and pour out disagreement in out thread...C'mon mate...football is filled with contraversies and cannot be liner perfect. What would you say if you lot won by the exact same way we did at the nou camp? You'd take it wouldnt you? And Nemanja Vidic being a pansy defender?? You wish you had him in your team just like every other Manager in the Premiership!

I'm sure you were really pissed off when Liverpool "scored" that goal against Chelsea a couple of years ago.
Shit like that happens all the time. Get over it.

:applause: Spot-on mate.

There was nothing wrong with that goal as i remember, it was over the line. Alternatively if he hadnt given the goal Liverpool would have had a pen and cech would have been off.

Its not massive hatred for United from me. i dislike united but i dont obsessively hate them, although i think they do get a massive helping hand at times from officials too scared to upset the applecart. For the Lille players to be so offended at Giggs goal something must have really upset them that we dont know about.

Lille are a small team, its the first time they have got to this stage in the competition.

Also CSaunders, it was not a foul, Vidic went down, like he always does too easily because he was struggling position wise.

Anyway its over now, but i'll say one thing, if that was the other way last night and united had a goal chalked off and lille had scored that dodgy free kick you'd all be up in arms.

I think we'd be more upset that we couldnt beat (no disrespect to them) a side like Lille with the team we put out there if that had happened.

I dont get why you need to make such a big deal about something so small. You're starting to sound like a 5 year old.

You mean like we were when we had a goal chalked off last weekend against Reading in the cup... and two goals two weeks before against Portsmouth. Check back and you'll see that we didn't moan for too long. You just have to accept that it will happen sometimes. As for United getting more decisions, it:s just highlighted more when we get them so it seems that way. I remember in the 80's when you were good, the amount of penalties that you got was unbelievable. Why? because you were a strong team that spent most of the game in the opposition half. The law of averages would then suggest that you would get more penalties. That is us now. Chelsea and Arsenal are similar too.

Why do i sound like a five year old? Because im unhappy at what im seeing? Your enjoying this season and rightly so because you are doing well, but in general terms football has gone down in my estimation. I've watched us all season and seen some shocking play, shocking decisions and ridiculous media coverage. I've watched a load of other games, from yourselves to the Arse to Chelsea, and its always the same, never a game goes by without some form of cheating, terrible officiating, manager fall out and media over hype.

And last night was the pinnacle for me. I was merley pointing out whats wrong with the game in general, including Lilles reaction, understandable but foolish, Fergusons hypocritical approach (check out his early season comments about stamping out diving).

FFS this supposed to be Champions League football, not some farce. The Premiership is supposed to be the best league in the world, but its a farce too. I'll admit that footy would be boring if everything was done correctly all the time and that we need some controversy and talking points but its getting ridiculous.

Yes things swing in roundabouts, i saw Larssons goal against Portsmouth and it should have stood, but lets be honest, those two incidents are exceptions to the rule in Uniteds case, i'd say 90% of the time it doesnt happen that way and indeed im surprised when a decision does go against United at OT.

Listen I know its a nice Anyone But United attitude to say things always go United's way at OT, but last season we barely had a single penalty all season. Now you tell me that no team fouled one of our players in the box for an entire year. When Porto knocked us out, which one could very easily tie into Mourinho being hired, Chelsea's ascent and so on, scholes' goal was dissallowed for no reason. None whastsoever. Last night when Rooney blazed over he was basically tackled from teh side rugby style. If he's the French striker he falls down in a heap, rolls over and over and doesn't even try to shoot.

If it makes you sleep better at night, and you believe there's no bias at Anfield, Ashburton Grove, hell Stadium of Light, Bernabau etc, then fine, it's a United only phenomomen. But don't deny that we've played some damn fine football this year. And I hate the media as much as the next fan. But its the best we have.

The real question is how were United matched so comfortably by Lille? I mean our players look like shadows of themselves in the CL...

It's simple:

Vidic fell like a pile of shite, Lille should have been in front with the chances they created.

Giggs goal was perfectly legal, unfortunately the Lille lads switched off for a second and they got punished. A draw would have been a fair result for both teams but as it stands I can't see Lille coming through this tie.

Go back to the Liverpool thread and talk about the disgrace that was your players brawling on a supposed 'Team Building' event!

Anywayz I felt Lille got what they deserved. They were diving and dirty tackling our players all over the park yet we managed to get more players booked.... As for that Odemwingie im glad his goal was disallowed, he kept falling over with the lightest of touches and it was getting rather annoying...

Just because henry has taken a few freekicks doesnt make that law any better. Fact is its interpretation and i never saw the ref whistle and thats probably what upset Lille no doubt, unless they were just pissed for no reason, but i doubt it.

The ref doesn't have to whistle thats the point. Its was a perfectly good goal. Lille took time over their wall, all the ref has to do is move away from the ball to allow the attacking team to take the kick quickly.

This rule is designed to help the attacking team, after all they were penalised in the first place! There is so much negativity in the game these days then its right the attacking team can take a free kick as quickly as they want.

If anything Lille showed thier naivety, they should have put a player in front of the ball like most other teams to stop this happening.

^ wouldnt the player stood in front of the ball been booked though? He is holding up the play Illegally?

Swings & Roundabouts, lets move on.

Antred - I love you, message me your mobile number and we could do lunch sometime? I hope you like tomato ketchup, I like LOTS of it! xxx

complete bullshit, this is just your hatred comming out. you cannot possibly think he dove, he was pushed, it was obvious after the up teen fucking replays they showed. YEs vidic is a small little man who goes down alot :( cmon man

completley and utterly untrue. Were odewemengie's hands on vidic? Yes. Was there a motion of his hands pushing in the back of vidic?Yes. Was vidic on the ground after the header? Yes. These are facts that you cannot dispute. go watch the replay again it was a clear foul on vidic. Now how come your not bringing up the clear foul on rooney in the box, advantage was player, good call agian by the ref. The ref was excellent in my opinion. Is lille disputing the non goal?

get lost.

Flippin eck i hope you guys dont play football, because if you think that was a push you wouldnt last five minutes! Vidic looked like he was going for a diving header.

And it wouldnt be the first time i've seen him go down easily when defending either. He's a cheating fecker.

Yep, there's that oft quoted Vidic again. Paradigm of the unfair, easy-to-go-down, diving, faking, parts of the game we've all grown to hate.

Mate, what are you smoking?

smoking nothing, he does go down easily. But not as much as Barcelona. Like whores them lot.

So I see Lille have filed an official complaint to UEFA about Giggs' goal. I don't know anyone involved in French football to ask, but please someone on here must do. It stinks to me of them trying to divert the blame away from themselves, who demonstrated a truly deplorable attitude threatening to pick their ball up and go home when things didn't go there way. But if the rules really are different in france, how the hell can that be?

I really want to know what the complaint said. Were they complaining about not hvaing received the FIFA rules of football? I never viewed them as a small club before the game, but after seeing their various reactions, they scream to me of that little short guy who always tries to start fights he can't finish, and has a real chip on his shoulder. I hope we trounce them at OT, and then get listen to their excuses.

Shitty Lille with their shitty stadium they won't play in & their shitty kit and their shitty players with cornrow hairstyles.
