Manchester United Thread

Its not outlawed, its just asking for trouble cuz naturally, the first thing you're gonna make contact with is the player. But in this case, he got the ball. So yeah, it wasnt a foul.

News to me then mate, I am sure the tackle from behind is a foul now no matter what.

Anyway, you certainly don't a free kick for no contact!

It will continue until the penalty is as big as the possible gain. A harsher ref might have given a penalty and sent Schwarzer off. Ronaldo would at most have got a yellow card. Worth a gamble, eh?

I think a straight red for blatant diving or feigning injury. It would soon stop. If the ref misses it then tough, but if he feels it was a definite dive then fuck em off the pitch.

EVERYBODY is mentioning how Ronaldo dives and moans...didnt anybody noticed that his freekick stance is somewhat getting better? and how cool and composed is he in setting up our winning goal?? Nope,I bet the haters didnt notice...I'm happy he dived to win us a penalty bearing in mind the countless number of fouls going against him...

no one doubts his ability. no one doubts robben, drogba etc either, they are cracking players. Luis garcia is a cracking player when on form.

which makes things worse when you see them feigning injury and diving. they dont need to do it.

What a dive by Ronaldo! :applause:

I'd give it 9.5

Does no one on here actually play a sport? Test this next time you have open space, run at absolute full tilt, then change directions quickly and then imagine for some reason you can't plant your foot where you thought you'd be able to. Like, pretend there's a big Australian goalie's leg in the way. Ronaldo tried to avoid contact, tried to steady himself with his hands, but fell onto the ball and down. If he'd wanted to 'con' a pentaly he woudl have touched the ball to the side and just let the Swarzer take him down. Gareth Southgate has some nerve saying the goalie did everything he could to avoid touching him...erm if it wasn't one of hte most agile and quick footed palyers on earth the goalie would have gone right through him, Swarzer had committed and gone to ground, Ronaldo tried to dodge out fo the way, failed because Swarzer blocked his path.

And seriously, if anyone needs refreshing of the rules, just look up all the English pundits backing Stevie G with his penatly against Sheffield. Exactly the same rule, exactly the opposite persecution by the press. Such bull.
exactly right, the bbc anouncers i was listening to had the same exact view. No way in hell did ronaldo purposley dive in the box, the question has to be why? why would he dive if the ball is right there for the taking and the goal wide open in front of him, from watching the replays he is obviously trying to avoid contact this causes him to stumble..... it was not his intent to dive, you guys are just haters...

why? why would he dive if the ball is right there for the taking and the goal wide open in front of him,

didn`t he miss-fire a 3 yards in front of goal(recently)??? I think he landed wrong and the ref assumed he was taking out . CR usually looks at the ref in mid-air and utters out a few words before crashing down to the floor.

I was awaiting the day I see arsenal supporters cry dive and tinted sunglasses. Truly quite hilarious considring arsenal are the kings of rolling about and handball merchants.
My opinion on the Ronaldo penalty is that he lost his balance stubled and went down. He didnt shout or wave his arms to indicate a penalty, the referee called the decision, its not ronaldos fault. But yes he did dive against Botengs leg, I admit that. But that is only one isolated this season the boy has dived and it is blwon out of proportion by the bitter english media who are out on a witch hunt for everyone to hate him because of the england situation in the world cup. Quite pathetic to be honest. And of course you'll get cretins who get caught up in the whole 'diving ronaldo;' hysteria like sheep.

It doesnt matter if he dived or not. Its still sad that the only way these guys can get any sleep is by moaning about it here.

I remember when vieira done that stupid dive when gerrard slid in and never touched him. lol

who cares, lots of players dive these days. move on.

The gooners are just bitter lads. Think about it, United have been at the top of the league or at least challenging for it for nigh-on 15 years now and are the only threat to a VERY strong Chelsea team. Arsenal are just playing for a Champions League spot ALREADY half-way through the season. Who remembers the last day of the season last year? Arsenal had to poison Spurs and pray they lost at West Ham to squeeze into the Champions League. United are a class apart and will only be better with Larsson and maybe another signing in January.

What kind of chess game is Sir Alex playing here with this tinkering of the United squad? As the old adage says, if it ain't broken don't try and fix it, SAF has gone off and ruined the whole telapathy of the team by bringing Larsson into the mix. A mate of mine who works as janitor at Old Trafford overheard a dressing room conversation where SAF sat down with Rooney and Saha and told them "Listen lads, you're scoring goals but that's clearly not enough here, I need more, I'm bringing in someone with experience, there may be a top striker coming from Spain very soon" and the look on Rooneys face was one of shock. What is that going to do for his confidence? He is the rock of the United squad and now he has been split in two. Now you will begin to see the steady decline of United, bit by bit, it will start with being knocked out of Europe and end with a disasterous run in the Premiership, so drastic that there's the possibility of even a relagation battle come near the end of the season. Mark my words, United will be lucky to finish in the top half of the table this season. Man Utd right now is like a giant supercomputer, and SAF has sent the biggest e-mail worm virus known to mankind by bringing in Larsson.

Best part of Dermot's posts is the anticipation of what he's going to come up with next, after we keep winning. If this is the team falling apart..well then.

On a side note, has there ever been as strong a start to the prem by two teams? Like combined point totals? I certainly can't think of one...

Let me enlighten you.You might admit your stupidity after my pint-pointing.How in the world can your alleged friend working as a janitor at OT saw Rooney's face just by overhearing a dress-room conversation??? You are unbelievably naive and dumb.Anyway, whats the deal with Sir Alex talking with just Rooney and Saha in a dressing room at OT? They arent the only forward we have. All business and meeting with players are done at the elusive Carrington.Do you have a friend working there? I suggest you stick to your NFL Thread in the "Other Sports Discussion" Section you muppet.Nice try on the graphics though,I bet you have a lot of time.

Fecking hell mate lighten up, anyone would think you lack a sense of humour!

Must say haven't felt this nervous before a United match since...well this time last year! All I can hope is that we've gotten the bad luck out with Celtic and Cobenhaven, and we can go through smoothly. I've said it before, but going a goal down against a portuguese team could well be the end of our CL hopes. Their simulation is unparalleled outside of South America, imo.

Personally I'm seriously hoping to see Rooney end his CL woes, with an early goal, and then we should be fine. The boys must have some serious nerves this morning!

i'm looking forward to tonight but the game on saturday is much more important.....

Speaking off siddy, their soft toy loving manager talks shite, again...

Stuart Pearce has jokingly told Sir Alex Ferguson to honour his pledge to give Manchester City 15,000 tickets for Saturday's derby.

The pair were having a chat at a fund-raising function a couple of months ago, not long after Celtic's massive travelling support had turned Old Trafford into a sea of green.

Ferguson told Pearce how much he had enjoyed the atmosphere that night and reflected how good it would be if all away teams were able to bring a similar support.

Instead, City will be restricted to their annual 3,000 allocation, even though the ground capacity at Old Trafford has now increased to over 76,000.

"I am sure Sir Alex will remember that night and offer us another 15,000 because I have got a feeling we would fill our allocation," Pearce told the Manchester Evening News.

"He did make that statement, I heard him, and it would be nice for him to throw the gates open for the derby because a lot of our fans would like to see the game."

Pearce will be hoping to maintain an unbeaten record in his managerial head to head with Ferguson, having picked up a win and a draw during his first full season in charge at City.

However, the Blues have not recorded a victory at Old Trafford since Denis Law's famous backheel in 1974 and Pearce is aware how hard his side will have to work if they are to topple the Premiership leaders.

"We will have to match United physically and get in their faces as best we can," he said.

"It is a fantastic place to play your football but you have to be prepared to roll up your sleeves."

As if we would give those ingrates 15000 tickets, they cant fill their ground and the away support is dropping yet all of a sudden they all wanna come to OT....

Feckin siddy!
