Manchester United Thread

Bring in a couple of worthwhile signings and we should be set to bring the trophy back home where it belongs.A striker and a midfielder should be fine. This is a leak...We are getting a new set of kits next year.According to my buddy, its a ferrari-inspired design, blazing red and a black away kit again.

Today being linked with Jermaine Defoe. Not sure how I feel about that one, he shows moments of absolute brilliance, but is also tiny and a bit inconsistent. Might be a great substitute though, but would he be happy bench warming?

I think the most interesting move in Jan will be around Hargreaves. If I was SAF, I might consider leaving him til the summer to get his fitness back and prove that he's still got the extra step. As we can see now with Alan Smtih, a serious injury can do more than just damage the leg or whatever.

Any updates on Ole/Smith/Park coming back?

I heard that Smith might be loaned out to Bayern Munich?

If Hargreaves was incorporated into the deal this may be a good bit of business.

F*ck that. Why dont we just play Smith up front? I bet it could work with the new style of play we have.

cause he has looked completley like shit in the couple of games he has played, he probably is not fully recovered, and rushed back to soon

Here's the official ball for next season:

Have to say Smith must be pretty unfit to not even make the bench for the Chelsea game. Say what you will about his speed and acceleration problems, but bringing him on for Saha for 10 minutes would certainly give Terry and Carvalho someone physical and tough to handle and hopefully create some space for Rooney. I wonder what this fitness regime they've got him on is going to do to him! Imagine if he came back fast :)!

Big game tonight, must confess to being a bit worried, especially if no Saha/Ronaldo. Without those two we lose a lot of pace, and Giggs can't really go the full 90 without dissappearing for spells. I predict scrappy 1-1, with Beattie getting a penalty after Heinze continues to act like a madman to make up for his lost step. Seriously, its only a matter of time til he gets sent off/loses important penalty. I like the full blooded approach when we first signed him, but now he just seems to love diving in. Hopefully he's just settling again.

It will be interesting on how we would line up tonite...Everton would be blunted too without Cahill,Johnson and T.Ho...thats 3 key players out...they did get a draw the last time round, last season at OT.

Can't believe I'm going to ask a serious question in the Utd thread....here goes....oooo...this is tough.....

How far away is City's stadium to Old Trafford roughly?

Decent half that, took a bit to get into. Its a shame the half time whistle came because United where just getting in their stride and started playing some of the breath taking stuff we have seen so far this season

A rather interesting paragraph about El Rooney from a report at soccernet concerning last night's game.

"The 21-year-old was still seething when Evra was booked for bringing down Mikel Arteta and quickly jogged over to offer his thoughts. His presence brought an instant reaction from the Everton fans. Rooney's response to the predictable abuse was to turn in their direction and kiss the badge on his red United shirt. The move sent the decibel levels soaring and, with the atmosphere between the supporters getting increasingly venomous, it needed something to get minds focused on the game again."

Thats a brave move from Fatty. He is definitely home now at OT.Great win,I didnt think we could win comfortably after failing to get all points from them scousers at home for the last 2 season.

I'm not sure what it is but theres something about this club that makes you want to play for the team rather than for the money. I was really shocked when Smith joined us and suddenly started playing with so much heart like it has been his childhood team all along.
I guess this is what's lacking at Chelsea.

Personally I think it's a bit crass, I mean he grew up in Everton, supported them and learned his trade there. I think he could have showed a bit more class.

Very true m8, something special exists within Man U that no other team in England seem to have, well not to the same extent. Liverpool has it due to their history but its kind of patchy though they are well respected by a lot of the world. Chelsea want to buy it but it will never happen.

Regarding Rooney kissing the badge if he took that much stick then Wayne Rooney is well in his mind able to do it. Some other players have the sort of "class" that is mentioned to take things like this and let it go others like Rooney and say Cantona for example wouldn't. It is easy to sit and say that he shouldn't have done this and should have done that. As long as he never disrespect any fan in the manner of Diouf he will be fine.

Whoa. He's nothing like I expected of him. I thought he'd be another greedy dribbler, but this guy's the opposite of that. He can provide some nice passes and clearly showed he'd rather set someone up rather than shoot himself.
I'll be surprised if we DONT sign the kid. He's awesome.

Yea I live around D.C. I don't really watch much MLS anymore but I would say passing his probably his best quality. There are times he tries to dribble to much and it gets stolen, especially at the beginning of his career, but as he has matured he looks more to lay it off or set some one up. His finishing isn't the best as seen in the first clip of the video, but he does have a rocket left foot.

I'm sure United could get him for not that much and then loan him off to somewhere where he could earn experience. Could possibly replace Giggs?

I see Freddy Adu as a direct replacement for Scholesy instead.Similar in terms of frame, has bags of talent that needs to be nurtured and he is at the right club if he signs for us.Stewart Downing would be a decent replacement for Ryan Giggs but I dont rate him any better than Kieran Richardson.
