Manchester United Thread

we needed to act quickly the wolves and newcastle games proved how badly we need another top class finisher, we seem short of options from the bench who could change the game. Bellion needs time IMO.and a run out when we are two goals up and not chasing the game will benefit him. Hopefully Ole will be back shortly and then we are able to freshen up the attack.

SAHA CLOSE TO SIGNING FOR MANYOO
Fulham have been reported in the Sunday Mirror as saying that they will consider selling striker Louis Saha if Man Utd offer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in exchange. A senior Fulham board member was quoted as saying: "It is rubbish to suggest that we are interested in any player United want to offer us as part of a deal to take Louis Saha to Old Trafford. The only exception would be if United were prepared to part with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - then we would consider their proposals for a deal. We are not under any pressure to sell Saha and, in an ideal world, we would rather do a deal similar to that struck with Liverpool last season when we sold defender Steve Finnan but kept him on loan until the end of the season."

Well I think Manure should ask for money plus Saha for Ole cause I think he is a top player

cant c fergie letting ole go, he wanted him to fill the becks void, imo. and could be the difference between united being successful or not this season. he's experienced, consistent and a natural goal scorer. not to mention he would bring the OT kids along. if they let him go for a as yet, unproven player that could spell the end of their season, imo.

Manchester United can confirm that it has reached agreement in principle with Fulham Football Club for the transfer of registration of Louis Saha, but this is subject to a number of conditions.

Manchester United expects these conditions to be resolved within the next week and will make a further announcement on completion.

It seems as though the worlds richest club is public enemy number one in football at the mo.

We've seen it all this season, a player missing a drugs test and recieving an unprecedented ban, the manager and a major shareholder embroiled in a civil war with dirt being dug up and dished out, allegations of dodgy transfers, accusations of bullying clubs, tapping players.

All this and we're only just half way thru a pretty lackluster season, where ive been subjected to football Dave Sexton would snigger at.

So the defeat at Wolves was the icing on a pretty unsavoury cake, it looked like we'd hit a creative wall at home to the magpies, fair enough we'd had a decent winning streak up until then but apart from the back four we'd looked pretty shoddy going forward.

In terms of battling Wolves we're well up for it, they didnt see much of the ball in either half and to be honest I dont think they would've known what to do if they had the ball. I could tell it was gonna be "one of those days" when the passing from likes of Keano and Scholes was woeful at best. We did improve in the 2nd half and to be fair Oakes pulled of a good few saves but my doubts about lady luck being with us was confirmed when Rio got injured and his replacement dropped one that led to a goal, even then you'd have thought Howard could've got to it, but it wasnt to be, Dave Jones said it was a giantkilling and beating us felt like winning the Champs League, so you've gotta give it to em' yes our performance contributed to the defeat more than Wolves "outplaying us" but hopefully it'll be the kick up the arse we've needed for the past few months.

We're on the right track defensivley cos although it was our forth deafeat all but the Fulham home game have been 1-0's and only Fulham have scored more than two against us in all comps, its the attacking side that has suffered, hopefully Saha will boost us in that area and the return of Ole will help even more.

"keep the red flag flyin high"

"keep the red flag flyin high"

`Cause Man United will never die! (Or just roll over and let the Gooners claim our trophy)

Suprise Suprise, it seems Fergie hold his current crop of fledglings as the best yet:

SIR Alex Ferguson believes the current Manchester United side is the best he has assembled during 17 years at Old Trafford.

The United boss sold David Beckham and Juan Veron in the summer, and with Fabien Barthez also departing he has sought to build a new, youthful core for his side.

And despite the plaudits won by the 1994 Double winning side and the 1999 Treble Winners, Ferguson believes that, talent wise, the new crop are the pick of a distinguished bunch.

"The 1994 United team could not only play, but had great mental strength," he told The Herald.

"They were unlucky because, at the time, you could only play three foreigners in Europe.

"The team of '99, ability-wise, was probably a little bit better than that one, but didn't have the mental power. So we keep using that as a reference point. The '99 team didn't like being told that, but that is what the challenge to them was.

"Ability-wise, the present team is probably a bit better than the '99 team."

Well for me the 94' team was my fave United team ever, the way we played football that was some of the best ive seen, and they we're hard as fuck aswell, if you wanted to play, they would play if the other team wanted a ruck they we're more than up for that aswell.

The 99' team was something special aswell but in a different way, it was our year that year and we couldnt be stopped, no big names in the team but that team was probley the most balanced United side ive ever seen, Giggs in full flow on the left, Beckhams crossing from the right, Keano was at his best in the midfield and Scholesy right next to him made it the best midfield in Europe, also having the four strikers we had at the time made it likely that no matter what the other team did "we we're gonna score more than you". You cant argue with the teams we ran thru that year, Bayern, Barca, Inter, Juve in the CL, lfc, chelsea and arsenal in the FA Cup and everyone else in the league.

Will the new lot be up to the impossibly high standards already set at the club, time will tell, for me the second half of last year we played some excellent stuff and maybe if we'd have kept Becks and Seba the current team would be steamrolling over everyone, but thats not the case and we've got alot of youth coming thru the team, ive already said I dont fancy us for the league this season but we'll give it a good go.

Yep, I agree. If the opposition gave the ball away in them days we would punish them BIG STYLE. I remember some fantastic goals, great counters and United being an unstoppable force.

The fee has been anounced: 12m for Saha. I think thats about right in this day and age - what do you guys think?

So its £10mill and then £2mill based on the usual, appearences etcFor a striker his age, its about right IMO, he's had a good season so far at Fulham and he looks like he could be a very good player.

We've needed a new number 9 and its consistent with Fergies current policy of signing young players, tbh I would've liked a bit of experience added to the side but Saha is already settled and used to English game so thats a bonus I s'pose.

Just found out that Ole wont be first team bound fot about a month.

:l

Lee Clarke on Saha:

"Whenever it has been raining we have said to him that that is what it is like in Manchester every day and sometimes I think he gets mixed up and calls me Roy Keane in training".

lol!

This week Manchester United and many others will be thinking about a Great man.

Sir Matt Busby.

This week marks the anniversary of his passing. For me as a United supporter to the bone, its difficult to put into words what this man means to our club. It was his vision that has got us to where we are today, he single handedly changed the philosophy of our club and was responsible for cultivating the youth policy which stands us out from the majority of clubs to this day, he believed our club was different to others and should be run that way.

As a fellow Scot and the second most important Manager in our history Fergie has been speaking about the great man.

Its abit long but any self respecting United supporter should give it a read.

Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken of his pride at being able to build on the legacy of Manchester United's first famous Scottish manager Sir Matt Busby.

It is 10 years on Tuesday that Busby passed away, eight months after Ferguson became the first United boss to lead the team to a league championship since his countryman retired over two decades earlier.

For all Ferguson's achievements since that first title, he will never forget the debt he owes Busby, who set the template for his own managerial style.

It was to Busby that Ferguson turned for advice as he struggled to adapt to the demands of leading one of the world's most famous clubs and though there were no instant solutions, the warm words gave him confidence and belief to go on and become the most successful British manager of all time.

"Matt was a fantastic man," Ferguson told BBC GMR. "He was one of the people I wish I had met earlier in my life.

"When I first came down here he was a great influence. He gave me help and time when I needed it the most.

"Everything that has happened at this club, the foundations were laid by Matt Busby."

A former Manchester City and Liverpool player, Busby was appointed United boss in 1945 when the club were still unable to use Old Trafford after it had been bombed in World War II.

Within three years he had won the FA Cup and four years after that, the Red Devils secured the first of his five league championships.

At the same time, Busby was also transforming United's youth structure, a policy Ferguson has obsessively copied during his own time at Old Trafford.

"Matt Busby's legacy to this club is that he produced a formula which Manchester United will stick to forever more," said Ferguson. "He gave young people a chance."

United won the FA Youth Cup under Busby five years on the trot from 1952 and again in 1964.

Not until Ferguson arrived at the club would they win it again and while the original Fergie Fledglings proved no match for Busby's Babes, the talent that emerged from the class of '92 stands comparison with any crop of youngsters produced in the modern era.

Ferguson has also embraced the swashbuckling style Busby gave his team. As the boys who won the first Youth Cup became men, so the nation embraced them.

Duncan Edwards, Roger Byrne and David Pegg were all home-grown England internationals, while the arrival of bustling centre-forward Tommy Taylor from Barnsley in 1953 provided the final touch to the team Busby took into Europe in defiance of the Football Association.

Tragically, the dreams of that team were lost in the slush and snow of Munich in 1958. For a time, it looked as though Busby would perish along with his 'flowers'. In the years that followed, there must have been occasions when he wished he had.

With fortitude and single-mindedness, Busby not only recovered, but painstakingly rebuilt his team.

Five years on they won the FA Cup again. Five years later they returned to Wembley and reduced the granite Scot to tears by lifting the European Cup with a 4-1 win over Benfica. George Best and Bobby Charlton were the new stars, the injured Denis Law watching from a hospital bed.

It proved to be the last great triumph of Busby's managerial career and some argue the imposing shadow he cast over the club inhibited those who followed. Until Ferguson arrived that is, the man who shares the same vision and insatiable pursuit of perfection.

Busby was at Old Trafford the day Ferguson's side ended United's 26-year wait and lifted the championship trophy again in 1993. It was on what would have been Busby's 90th birthday that the club lifted the European Cup again with their thrilling 2-1 win against Bayern Munich.

"Matt came to United at a time when they couldn't even use the stadium," said Ferguson.

"He resurrected the team to win the FA Cup and then won the league title with a team that will forever be part of footballing folklore.

"Then after Munich he rebuilt again to win the European Cup within 10 years. That is a phenomenal achievement in any shape or form and all the time he was producing young players.

"It makes me very proud that a fellow Scot should have laid such foundations before I came to the club."

There will only ever be one Sir Matt Busby. Its nice to see the proper United fans talking about greats of the past - where are the Gooners or the Chelsea heads that know anything about their clubs history? Its always "Henry! Henry!" or talking about Roman`s billions.

You must have missed our Herbert Chapman talk the other week.

I am so pleased we have signed Saha, who I feel could well be the thing we need at the moment as the goals are not coming thick and fast!

Hope the boy does good!
