Manchester United Thread

I`m at Old Trafford this Sunday, Vann. In the East Stand (again) behind the goals. It`s been bloody years, though, since I`ve sat in the Stretford End, wish I was sitting there. Galatasary was the last game. Feckin` draw.

Why do you "understand"? Ok the footy in Ireland makes them want to support a club outwith their nation, which is fair enough, but why does that mean they are any different from Zico when they support more than one? :eh:

ninja, yes it's more interesting to the neutral, not to a Scottish fan, but then 'interesting' wasn't mentioned, competitiveness was the issue - and it's a 2 horse race, Chelsea have never competed for the Premiership title, and have chucked it this year as well - it's Arsenal and yourselves.

Who does he support apart from the Gooners? I know he ranted on about Turkey and how he hated Man. United. :D

Well they are different from zico if they "support" zico is just a fan.

Fair enough I only "understand" from my own point of view and expereince cos having an Irish dad I saw how much he used to follow the progress of any team if they had Irish players, simple as that.

I've give up my season ticket to someone and ive had to get tickets in the lower west stand cos i've got a mate and his missus coming down.

I was in the east stand for the everton game, I actually like it there, unless Butts playing, you spend most of the match cathing his Wilko shots :)

Anyway I always enjoy the Newcastle games, just to give Shearer stick, and we always get a few goals.

Bit of pre match stuff starting to come thru:

Scholes on Newcastle:

"We are two teams who like to go forward and score goals and in recent years there seems to have been five or six goals a game and I hope it is the same on Sunday. It's a massive game. It's a big prize for Newcastle to finish fourth and they have just come back into a little bit of form as well so it is going to be a difficult game. It's nice to have that lead, but it is only early in the season and we are hoping to nick a bigger lead by February or March. I think we are playing well in patches. We are winning games which is the most important thing at the minute and as long as we are winning it doesn't really matter how well we are playing."

Newcastles Olivier Bernard: (who wont score a goal like last year since we've lost our 5ft keeper :) )

"It will be quite different because van Nistelrooy has got more movement, but I think Woody and Titus can handle that. If we don't make any mistakes, they can cope. We just have to be compact and then look for a goal. Of course we weren't happy to lose at home against another team, any team, but when you play Man United, you can't make any mistakes. We just have to reduce those mistakes and we can get probably a counter-attack and score a goal. We play attacking football and I just think sometimes we just have to sit back and play on the counter-attack against teams that have got some talent like Man United and Arsenal and Chelsea. They've got players who can think quickly - quicker than us - so I just think we have to defend very well first and take the chances, if they happen, to counter-attack. Man United is a tough game. It will be very hard, very tough to play them. The game is away, but I feel that we've just got to go there and play the way we are doing at the moment."

Shame we've not got Ole really, it was this game last season when Fergie realised how much of an expensive comodity Beckham had become, and that Ole could do a better all round job on the right.

He made one, scored one that day, class :)

Zico remember this one

There my fave team aswell, only because of Burgos and Torres tho. You must see this Atletico Madrid banner I have, it's massive and looks sweet.

ATLETICO!! ATLETICO!!

how many teams??? lol

Whose says you win nowt this time of year,

'Sir Alex Ferguson and Paul Scholes have scooped the Barclaycard Manager and Player of the Month awards thanks to Manchester United's unbeaten run in December.

The double award rounds off an impressive month that saw United beat Aston Villa (4-0), Man City (3-1), Tottenham (2-1), Everton (3-2) and Middlesbrough (1-0).

The Champions' five-match unbeaten run came about largely thanks to some eye-catching performances and two goals from Scholes.

It marks the 14th time that Ferguson has won the managers' accolade during his career, but only the second time Scholes has won the award.

Barclaycard sponsorship director Nic Gault said: "Manchester United have made a habit of ending seasons strongly and their current form suggests they have started early.

"After a disappointing defeat at the hands of Chelsea, Sir Alex Ferguson has taken his side on a five match unbeaten run that has sent out a clear message to the other title contenders: we're not going to give the title up easily.

"After an injury lay-off, Paul Scholes has quickly regained the type of form that has made him such an important player for United and England. Although it's only January, he must be an early contender for Player of the Year."

The decision on who gets the awards is made by the Barclaycard Awards Panel, which includes representatives from football's governing bodies, the media and fans.'

Good to see Scholesy get a bit of credit.

Seems that the new league sponsors think of much of us as the last ones :)

If we won three on the trot again I wonder if they'll do like last time and give us the original trophy and make a new one??

This does doesnt add up, anyone who can read this and still the Rio ban is right, is higher than me.

from sky sports:

'Internazionale's young striker Mohammed Kallon has been hit with a massive eight-month ban for testing positive for the banned steroid nandrolone. The promising youngster will not play until next season after failing a test conducted after the Serie A game against Udinese on September 27th. he ban - although sizeable - is the same size as the one dished out on Rio Ferdinand for missing a test, and subsequently testing negative and it may well be brought up in the England international's appeal. Kallon is a Sierra Leone international who has made great strides in an Inter shirt this season.

The Italian Disciplinary Commission were particularly lenient considering the prosecution were calling for a four-year ban from all competition that would have left the player pondering his future in the game. Following the decision, both Inter and Kallon's lawyers stated they would appeal against the Disciplinary Commission's decision.

A statement on Inter's website read: "The Disciplinary Commission have qualified the episode like a non-intentional event, because they gave him a ban incompatible with a hypothesis of intentional doping. We wait for the reasons of this decision - that will be known in the next few days. The player, reaffirming the absolute correctness of his behaviour, will make an appeal to the proper Commission."

Saadi Al Gaddafi has been hit with a three-month ban - after testing positive for banned steroid nandrolone despite not playing a minute for his Italian club Perugia. Gaddafi arrived in a blaze of glory - chiefly because of his father, Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi - but has never actually made it onto the pitch.'

Wheres the media circus with this then, how come everyone involved or not isnt giving qoutes trying to raise thier media profile??

This is why FIFA/UEFA are pricks, they make rod for the own backs, surely they should be harder on a convicted cheat??

I was in the East Stand last season, for the Charlton game, the day we won the league (on the day none of us wanted to tempt fate, as Aresnal were due to play Leeds at Highbury, and we still had Everton away, and we all know what happened ater that . . .) and Fergie gave his end-of-season speech - it was a great day. I always stay at the Golden Tulip to soak up the atmosphere the night before - leave tomorrow afternoon, get there for early evening, few beers and skunk spliffs in the hotel room, then a bacon roll outside Old Trafford in the morning before afternoon kick-off. Nothing like it . . .

LOL I always smoke one walking down Warwick Rd onto Sir Matt Busby Way, no matter which way I approach the stadium I HAVE to walk down Busby Way, from the red chippy end, buy the fanzines from the oh so freindy vendors ;) then I have a gander at the away fans going in then walk around the east and north stand entrances to pay homage to the Munich Memorial (which I picked up from my Uncle and will pass down) and then make my way to my seat, which can take along time due to the amount of people I catch up with, then traditionally I get to my seat and piss everyone off by asking who's starting cos I always miss the team announcements

Why??

Scholes is world class mate, dont know if you've seen him play but there isnt a better scoring midfielder in Europe as far as im concerned, I know im biased but to deny what a truly great player The Ginger Prince is criminal.

Last season when Beckham was linked with Real, Del Bosque said he'd rather have Scholes, and Juve's manager (cant remember his name) calls him "the little nuisance".

Probably 'cause he's such a nuisance on the pitch when not playing football.

Anyway he won't win the best player award, because there are of better players around, especially on a technical level.

Well if thats your opinion then fair enough, but the ones ive seen play who are better than Scholesy are the Nedveds, Zidanes of the world.

Its his technicha ability that sets him apart from every other english/british midfielder, in terms of the position he plays there isnt anything he cant do, dribble, short pass, long pass, excellent positional sense, can head the ball, cracking shot.

What more could you ask for.

Im wasting my time I know, so I s'pose he's our best kept secret, to United supporters he's pricless and thats what matters.

Do you actually know what you're talking about? Scholes is one of the most quiet, professional people off the field. He is by far the best goal scoring midfielder in the premiership. To say that he's no good technically is laughable, he's one of the best.

I know, I thought that even people who dont like United, still rate Scholesy.

Just goes to show....

i read a quote by Sam Allardyce the other day about scholesy, it was along the lines of:
''Paul Scholes is a car advert away from being a Superstar'' (something like that anyway)
very true IMO :)
thing is though he aint into that shit, so doesnt get the media attention and all that which i think is a good thing it keeps him concentrating on wots important, playing footy

I was talking about Scholes on the pitch. I don't think he's as quit en proffestional as you say. He easily gets frustrated, and when he is frustrated he does some of the dirtiest tackles. He's holding on the players shirts pulling them down, in the most clever way... The only thing Scholes kan do, is shoot.

Forlan might not be the best/biggest star around, but I definantly prefer Forlan over Scholes.

Forlan over scholes u r kiddin right mate?!?!?!?
IMO scholesy along with Ruud are our MOST important players!
just to check again u r kiddin aint ya?!?!?
(edit u r right about his tackling though! ;) )

I actually liked man. utd, i don't support them though. I think Man.Utd are a great team. I just don't rate 'Scholesy'.

haha thats a good one.

I think thats why United supporters like him so much cos he keeps out the spotlight and gets on with his footy, infact a few United players have said how they dont know how he gets out of all the interviews and media shite. The only charlies weve had at the club have been either cockney's or foreign players, the ones born within GM are the exact opposite.

Thats why we love em'!!!

I'm tempted to delete that post. It's blasphemy!

Why would you delete someone's opinion, because you can't think of any arguments to prove the opposite?
