Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Why was Van Der Sar a disapointment?
Its not like we were gonna get a young keeper cuz we have Howard.

And its safe to not get too excited but I still think we'll get someone like Ballack.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Because there are many other experienced keepers out there who are better than Van Der Sar. We might as well just brought back Fabian.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Theres a BIG difference between Van Der Sar and Barthez.
Van Der Sar doesnt fuck up.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Anybody remember when VDS tried to dribble Reyes? And in his day at Italy he's made some fuck ups. My freind says he even remembers people in the italian media seriously claiming that VDS' eyesight was bad.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

let's be honest!!! i love Van Der Sar coming...he has experience...and why we need such a great keeper is to help Howard to grow and learn!!! as for Fabien...he was good in his first season, but after that you saw what happened!!! butter fingers!!! u don't see it in VDS. i have lots of confidence in him and for the price we paid....VDS was a GREAT buy!!!

yeah, somehow, i have dropped my high hopes of Ballack, but i still think this will be a big signing that will only help the team grow and play better!!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

chaps I think we need to wait a while...at least until august 1st...I'm sure I read that in glazer's business plan we have £6m or so to spend from this season's budget (up until end of July 05)...and then from 1st August next season's budget will kick ie. the £25m a season promised...

I can't see SAF confirming or even hinting at any of his targets until he knows he has the liquid cash available...so he can go and get the deal done before chelski decide to snap our target up....If there is any truth in the ballack story I'd expect more concrete news early august..if it is Ballack, could even be Gattuso...who knows...but if we started talking names now chelsea would step in with more money and snap them up ie. Robben, Essien, Mikel......

I guess you're right. VDS is a great signing, but still a bit dissapointing since I had some other keepers in mind.
If Carroll was doing well with our defense infront of him imagine how VDS will do.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

cool...someone actually agreed with me!!! Hahaha, thx lumlum! we will all wait and see what the strong defense will bring to us this season!!!

and...august...won't that be a little late?? i mean, if we can get it done, then there's mroe time for them to work together and play with more co-operation!!! cause as SAF said and we all know...every game from August till the end of the season is important!!!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

As i think we need another midfielder i think we should buy Jenas as we are looking to youth and we have been linked with him in the past and highjack arsenals bid

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

As for keepers, I was thinking Timo Hildebrand before Edwin, the VFB Stuttgart No. 1, whose quite a good shot-stopper, and much younger at around 26/7. We also need another midfielder like what Randella_uk said, but Jenas is not worth 20 mil. The only problem is that we need a class act, and I don't think that they will come cheap, as none of the big clubs are going to sell their stars, after all, these guys are the heartbeat of the team, and dictate the tempo of play. But imagine having someone like Andrea Pirlo from AC Milan in our midfield, he would be deadly as hell from set pieces, and possess a fantastic passing range.

The thing is that when we were a PLC, if we went out to make a bid for someone, the information would be released on the stock exchange letting everyone know about where our money is being spent.
Now that the Glazers have taken over, we dont have to do that anymore. SO I can guarantee you that our transfer targets are gonna be robbed from under our noses a lot less often than they used to.

And as for the player in question, if you read the interview or saw it on MUTV, David Gill said that they're looking at a player that they plan on buying so they already know who this man is. But we dont. As far as we know, the deal could be almost done.
MUFC arent revealing any info on it and all its info is being kept under wraps.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

jenas aint worth 20mill but english players never leave on the cheap but its a good long term replacement for keane so maybe it is worth itas the transfer fee's will just rise over the coming years and the glazers will smash wages in the future i see if it is anything like how they done business in the US

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Looks like we have made that rookie keeper, our third signing for this coming season.Never heard of him, never seen him play and worse of all,he has never actually played for Stoke's first team. But heyyy...lets be decent skeptics, shall we?

United agree keeper deal

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

imagine ballack in midfield... that is going to be crazy man... he will be truely world class... he has nothing to prove at all. He has won it all. Ballack just needs a new challang. Imagine him with Keane in the central midfield... My god....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

We just needed A 3rd keeper. It doesnt matter who he was. If Sir Alex maybe sees potential in him then thats even better.

Never heard of this Ben Foster dude.
But seeing how he'll only be our third keeper, I dont really care who he is cuz he's not gonna get a game just like Ricardo.
I've certainly heard of him, he was at Wrexham on loan last season for a few months and did very well, played an absolute blinder in the LDV Vans Trophy final in Cardiff where Fergie was in attendance.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

That explains EVERYTHING about the deal then.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

the fee for him is pushing up to 2.5m for him isnt that how much you paid for VDS!?
On another note i cant believe Sky arnt showing the first deby on TV!!!

ummm its entirely different in the us, the player unions have a lot more power as does the NFL, in the NFL there is a salary cap, so there are not teams like chelsea who can just spend millions as they please you can only spend so much on players, so its hard to compare the NFL dealings of the glazers to how it will in the prem

Yep, Fergie also had scouts at the Racecourse on a number of occasions last year to watch "Fozzy". Anyway I have heard that he will be unveiled at Old Trafford on Tuesday and will be immediately loaned out to a Championship club (said to be Sheffield Wednesday) for the whole of next season.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Why Fergie's Keane On Ballack Deal
Sir Alex Ferguson has dropped his biggest hint yet that he wants Michael Ballack. The Manchester United boss is keen to find a long-term successor to Roy Keane in the heart of his midfield and has been tracking the Bayern Munich star for months. Ballack, 28, issued a come-and-get- me plea to United when he revealed he wanted to move abroad and Ferguson has admitted he would be interested. "We need somebody with experience to complement the nucleus of young players like Smith, Rooney and Ronaldo that we already have," he said. Bayern would be prepared to sell Ballack for around £8million if he continues to refuse the Bundesliga side's offer of a new deal.
David Anderson, Daily Mirror

I Want To Come Home
Michael Owen has run out of patience at Real Madrid and is ready to come home. The England striker's advisers have made inquiries to gauge the level of interest at Manchester United and Liverpool, Mirror Sport can reveal. Owen, 25, has tired of playing second fiddle to Ronaldo in Spain. And with Real set to sign at least one more forward over the summer, his opportunities next season will again be limited. Real would prefer to sell rather than loan, and have set Owen's price at the £18m. That is more than Liverpool could pay, leaving Owen's best hope of a return home seeming to rest with Manchester United, who expressed some interest. But with Sir Alex Ferguson chasing a top-class midfielder, Owen's asking price may be a stumbling block. United might be forced to splash out on the sort of player Ferguson is after. Michael Ballack is available from Bayern Munich, and while he has only a year left on his contract, he could still cost close to £15m. If that is the case, it would rule out a massive bid for Owen. But if Real can be talked into cutting their price and Ferguson is able to secure a central midfielder for a reasonable figure, United would definitely be interested in Owen.
David Maddock, Daily Mirror

I'm still hoping we get both Ballack and Owen. We could then send Saha away on loan or even sell him if we need the cash. And with Smith moving into midfield, we would have Owen, Ruud and Rooney as our striker force with Ballack, Ronaldo, Park, Giggs, Scholes and Keano in midfield.

[-o<
I'd be over the moon if we get both of them.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Did anyone get to see the match? I wasn't able to unforetunately... :(

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Why the hell would you want Michael Owen at Old Trafford? There's much better strikers out there than Owen, and anyway, there's more chance of me winning the lottery than him wanting to join United... Why don't the press seem to get that?

The rerun of the match is just about to start in a few minutes on MUTV so I'm off to watch that.

Because Owen is a better striker than Smith and Saha and we expect the best.
And secondly, why do you think Owen wouldnt come to Man Utd? Cuz he's from Liverpool? If that meant so much to him, then he wouldnt have left Liverpool in the first place.
