Manchester United Thread

Porto will be a difficult game, we play them away first so that takes some heat from the tie as we will know what to do at Old Trafford on the all-important 2nd leg. Also, their star player has picked up a big injury so that is a bonus for us.

Darlei but Deco will be the one to watch, everything seems to go through him, the Pablito Aimar of Portugal.
well, didnt derlei AND deco play together last year in the UEFA cup finals? they looked pretty good right... soo technically if they feed off of each other, hopefully we can take em because half of the connection isnt there...

as for winning the CL misfit, yea i see your point, even gareth cant fill rios void, but we ll give it a go, and beating porto would be a stepping stone

Fuck me that was hard work yesterday, we seemd okay in patches but nothing outstanding, Im not complaining though those can be the sort of games that make the difference come the end of the season. we've won more and scored more than everyone else so what else is there to say, and we can get alot stronger for the next half of the season.

haha, i was waiting for your input vann, yea, ive already exclaimed my unhappinesss already, ruud, ginger and giggsy better start reappearing on the scorecard...

anyway what did you think about giggs performance yesterday... quite shitty wouldnt you say?

Just how pathetic is Giggs and G. Neville, constantly moaning at refs evertime a decision goes against them, it's disguisting. Refs really need to clamp down on there awfull behavior. If it was me, I would just send them off.

dont be bitter mate, yeah we'll probley get knocked out by the likes of Real but considering they are the best team in the world how is that a bad against us??

Just being a permanent fixture in The CL, being part of its early history, holding records for most goals scored etc and playing in some of the best matches in the modern game is enough for me, not everyone can win it.

Anyway seeing us lift the trophy is still fresh in my mind, as you've never seen that you wont understand, but in football its the epitome and expecting that again is alot to ask.

haha, those are choice words vann... but we can never erase the possibility of winning, i mean, we are a perfectly capable club to win the CL... but being too optomistic can be bad for us

I think the attacking side of the team was the problem yesterday, Scholes was by far the best but Ruud and Giggs looked abit rusty, Giggs still causes problems for defenders but his final ball or choice of ball can be piss poor and young Fletcher ALWAYS checks back instead of getting a cross in, first time. At least Ronaldo offers good crosses from either side.

yea, i found giggs first touch to be extremely poor, the only good touch ruud made, was the flick onto scholes who struck it soo hard i winced when i saw schwarzer tip it

Yeah, but Milan, Real and Bayern will also want to avoid drawing United. I quote Raul in October "I think Manchester United will be the most difficult and exciting fixture for us".
So, we are a task for other teams and vice versa.

Yeah but he doesn't do it week in week out like Giggs and G. Neville.

I agree with Misfit, when it comes to playing the big boys you'll not be able to defeat them. I think it's Arsenal that Real are worried about Vann.

Please don't come up with all this shite that we aint good enogh, because the Inter game proved we can beat anyone in Europe.

Real Madrid are in a different class to Inter though Zico.

Yeah but Inter have great defenders, where as Real don't. So if we can score 5 past a great defense like Inter's, then im sure we could score a few past Madrid.

hell of cos no one wants to draw manure.but if given a choice to play either bayern(who real traditonally screw up against),milan(who are a tough side to score against, with pavon havin to contain sheva)or manure, who'd they go for???ya lot can be better than(ouch!!)the rest of other teams currently in the CL,but when it comes to these three,it's just a diff' story.the only good thing is you'll only be meeting one of either real or bayern if and only if ya lot make it to the semi/ finals....

PS:fuck me!forgot all bout juve!!well,ya get the pic dont ya?

We proved last year that we can beat Juve. To be honest, Real are the only side we should fear in my humble opinion. On our day I think we can beat Bayern and Milan. I mean, we usually beat teams in Europe by outscoring them, Madrid are the only side I can see us having trouble against in that department. Mind you, I still don't think we'll win it.

the same juve which beat real which beat ya?fair enuff hutch but i'd think ya'd fear bayern/milan more as it will be really difficult to score against
em' and they have got some real quality strikers.real on the other hand as much as they are very capable indeed of gettin a goal, they are plainly awful at the back.think bout it..

I think Fergy will need to play more defensively if he will face Milan or Bayern. Italian teams are known for their tough defences and good counter attacks.

Look, guys, all of our clubs that are still in the Champions League are in with a chance - thats why we have reached this stage. I wouldn`t bet against United, Juventus, Real, Arsenal, Milan or Bayern.

Personally, I think Milan are gonna win it again. They have the experience, the awsome Shevchenko and a great defence. Real are a different class, too, with Ronaldo and Raul running at you - it says it all. But they have holes in their back line - sort of team which concedes 2 but scores 3.

But, being a United fan, I have to be bias. I DO think we have what it takes, just look at the way we play, passing out of defence (not hoofing it), awsome attacking styles, plently of flare and can ground out results(Middlesbrough, Wolves) all the qualities which a good Champions League team needs. Even Arsenal (dare I say it) have proved they can be very dangerous in Europe.

look, for all we know, none of our teams will go through to the quarters, we must all concentrate on our personal tasks... ninja vann hutch and i must concentrate on porto, while nicky, zic and others will hafta worry about celta... when we get drawn with real... juve... milan... bayern... whatever THEN we ll reprepare ourselves for this conversation...

hahaha... whats up with the last line of every one of your posts? haha anyway i dont even consider lazio italian anymore, theyre horrid in CL and so are inter ... well inconsitance is the word... neither of these two teams are "feared" like milan are...

guess they ll just hafta win a CL first ;)

Yesterday's game illustrated our problem as of late. We play quite well early on, and usually get a goal. Then that's it. We sit on it. We stop the good, flowing football, and replace it with broken runs and losing the ball. We then get pressured back. We were lucky that Boro didn't have anyone capable of punishing us in the box, otherwise we'd have been in a lot of trouble.

As for the Champions League, I reckon that we will beat Porto. But as it's been said before, we don't have what it takes to beat the defences of Milan or Juve anymore. Whilst Giggs and Ruud were a bit rusty yesterday, if either of them two, or Scholesy, don't play, we don't look anywhere near as good as we do when they play.

Additionally, our right wing needs to be sorted out. What are we gonna do? Will we employ Ole out there when he comes back, and buy a striker in the transfer window? Or, will we shove Ole upfront, and buy a right winger? Either way, someone of good quality and experience has to be bought in at the right price.

Personally, I reckon Fergie'll play Ole down the right, and go for a striker. I'd hate to see him go for Defoe. It's a risk. He has the potential, but if Ruud did get injured, Defoe couldn't do it alone. Saha is a better player in that case, but I think Fulham will definitely try and hike the price up. So, who else? Viduka wouldn't be bad, IMO. Strong, good in the air, decent finisher. I was also thinking perhaps Robbie Keane ... he maybe tempted away from a relegation dogfight to the glitz of the Champions League. Who knows? Or, we may opt for a South American player ... Luis Fabiano...

In Europe, without Rio, we also may be hideously exposed against a good attacking team. Last year, more than anything, we lacked experience. Not Laurent Blanc though, please. Whilst Gary Neville and Roy Keane can fill in at the back, we need them in their usual positions. Also, if you look at it, if Brown or Silvestre got injured, we'd be desperately short. We gotta buy a defender as well, in that case.

If we can strengthen the team with players who aren't cup tied, then who knows, we could be a major threat.

Teams don't want to draw us because they know that we can perform well on the night, and we have dangerous players. But as it has been said before, they'd prefer us over another big team (Milan, Juve, Bayern, Real) because there are weaknesses in our team currently to be exploited unless we get some reinforcements in the transfer window

well thats a very elaborate post mate...
we get some reinforcements in the transfer window
i agree with that wholly, hopefully the likes of defoe, southgate and more who were and are rumoured to make a move to OT, we can guarentee that "reinforcement"

Pff stop choosing bad teams .... look at Roma , Juve, and Milan. Those are the real Italian fire powers.... inter have been shit in Europe for the last 10 years apart from last season. Remember Helsinborg???? Alaves???? Lazio have lost their confidence ever since they won in 2000 the league because they thought they could win all.
