Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Yeah. Like how Sheva or Ronaldinho can change a game around.Basically I'm talking about match winners and I think Rooney could help win the World Cup for England.

I'm quite happy about the Van Der Sar deal cuz if you think about it, he's probably our most experienced keeper since Schmeichel. I know you could argue that Barthez was but he's a maniac.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

VDS is a great signing, my mate is a Fulham Season Ticket holder who actually knows him personally and she is devastated. The deal was apparently done back in March...I am gutted too, I wanted him at Highbury. :(

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Yep great signing a bit pricey for his age, Why didnt you get him for free in January?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

There was still a chance that Roy Carroll would have stayed in January plus we had Ricardo too so we didnt think we'd need a goalkeeper that badly.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

We did need a quality keeper badly at that time especially with the Milan games coming up. That was and has been our most problematic position for several years now. Imagine if we had Van Der Sar for those Milan games, not saying we would have won but no doubt would have been stronger.

You really think that Rune?
I know its not a good excuse but its the truth. Even Sir Alex said he felt he would stay.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Next Year will be better, with Heinze back, Ruud fit from the start (who's be been linked with please? I need information). If Ruud goes, we're in the s**t because Rooney will never get enough goals to justify him being our main striker, And then we'd have rugby player Saha (France's answer to Johnny Wilkinson) and Smith who is like Rooney. But I don't think, and I hope that Ruud won't leave.. We'll never be able to buy Vicente, he said the only english team he'd play for is Arsenal. Not sure about Essien, great player no doubt, but I think he'd probably end up going to Chelsea, by virtue of the fact they could probably pay a higher price for him. By the way, what's happening with Jon Obi Mikel, not heard much on that for the past couple of weeks.

I dont think his parents or his club have either...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

 Nice one Rune.

This Van Der Sar transfer is a bit dissapointing TBH, I was hoping we'd either Kameni (he's seriously good) or Frey, but I'd still choose him over both Carroll and Howard.
I guesse signing him is better than taking a risk on someone younger. Schmiechel recommended him, and who am I to argue with him? :)
I'm hearing rumors of a new striker being brought in, Real Zaragoza's David Villa. I think this means that either Smith or Saha will be out of the picture, unless Fergie is serious in converting Smith to a full fleged midfielder.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

I think Smith can turned into a full fleged midfielder. If you look at all his strengths and characteristics, I dot see why he cant. Has anyone got a good reason why he cant?

I heard it only took Van Der Sar, 4 days to complete the deal. One day he heard about the offer, 3 days later he was a Man Utd player. I think Rio needs the same agent.
And on MUTV they brought up the point that Van Der Sar was obviously excited about the deal if he signed so quickly so he'll definately be playing for us with the right mentality. Unlike some players here who take their places for granted.

And the Park Ji-Sung deal is looking very likely now and I'll be glad to see him here. He seems to be a very quick and energetic player who can run from box to box all day.

All that would leave now is a center midfielder. On MUTV, someone suggested Ballack for the position. His arguement was that most of the big teams have that midfielder that can get them atleast 10 goals per season like Lampard, or Gerrard, etc. We used to have Scholes doing that for us but he doesnt now so Ballack would be the perfect replacement. Not only does he score goals but can create goals for us too.
So our team would look like this:

----------------------------------------------
-----------van Nistelrooy/Saha------------
----------------------------------------------
-Rooney/Giggs-------------Ronaldo/Park-
----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------
---------------Ballack/Scholes-------------
----------------------------------------------
---Scholes/Fortune----Keane/Fletcher---
----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------
-Heinze/O'Shea-------------G.Neville/???-
----------------------------------------------
------Silvestre/Heinze---Rio/Brown-------
----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------
----------Van Der Sar/Howard------------
----------------------------------------------

What do you mean? They're moving into Manchester?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

If Ballack joins, Scholes will lose his spot. Unlikely that Ballack will move though... hes quote a symbol for Bayern.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

We were actually linked with Ballack a few months back. And I dont think it would be as hard as it looks to take him away from Bayern.

Too be fair Rune, you are linked with virtually everyone so its not a surprise that you were linked with Ballack is it? He's quality.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Ballack is arguably the best player at Bayern where his wages are high, he won the Double this year, and in the CL he went further than United did. Bayern are part of the G14, so I thik they have the strength to hold on to him since they are the strongest team in Germany, and one of the biggest in the world.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Thats true. We're always linked with someone and then our signings turn out to be someone else.

Who are all the teams that are apart of the G14?

:lmao: lol RuneEdge, I bet Abramovich and his Russian Mafia cronies will have a serious "talk" with him to force him to sign for Chelsea now he doesn't want to play for us

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

I've seen clips from MUTV and he almost looks like a playmaker. He created a few goals with some good passes and scored one himself which was impressive too.
If we dont get him, I hope Chelsea dont either cuz I think he really is that good.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Definitly more of a winger, bags of pace with great stamina anyone no how much your looking at paying for him?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Well he isnt really a proven player so I dont think he'll cost much.
Plus he's from a team that I didnt even know existed.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

You never knew PSV existed?

Though I haven't see Park play much, I've always thought he was more of a midfielder than winger from the way he plays, more like a DMF actually. I was a bit surprised when I read that he's a winger.
Similarly, the way Pablo Sorin of Villa Real seems to me more like a holding midfielder with attacking edge, but many people actually consider him a winger, either way you'd be right since he could do both positions.

EDIT: I just realized you're talking about Mikel, I didn't know his club existed either. :)
Me and my mindless rants

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Ruud to stay??

Park is still young so theres enough time for him to adapt to our style of play too. He has all the natural abilities like his pace and stamina but just needs to find a place for himself in the team and he'll should be ok.
