Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I actually thought Barthez's first season at United was very good. I remember he was unbeatable, but then he began to mutate into an idiot..... haha that Di Canio goal.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

He was just a bit mad. Maybe when he was a child, he used to be an outfield player which could explain why he'll try to nutmeg the opposing strikers during a game.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

One other thing is,I'm as puzzled as Ricardo himself. Why dosent Fergie gives this man a chance? I mean,he was bought in for sumthin isnt he? Everyone should be given a chance to prove himself.I remember Ricardo giving away a penalty on his United debut but then he saved it!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Last time I saw Ricardo was when he was playing with the reserves, I thought he was pretty horrible, but that may be the effect of not playing for so long.
Either way, it's difficult to rotate 3 keepers and keep them all happy, let alone 2!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Ricardo still plays for the reserves. But not as often cuz Sir Alex usually plays one of his younger keepers now.

yeah but he was superb in euro 2004... and seems to be doing well for his club, maybe it is the united coaching staff...

I liked Barthez, his height let him down but he was a top class GK.

The GK coaching staff may have lost the plot, but it was Coton who noticed Howard, the same Coton thinks James is one of the best so I am having big doubts over his ability at spotting talent.

As much as i'd like to see Casillas at OT i'd prefer to see Robinson as GK at United for the next 5-10 years....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

25.

Btw. Ruud scored today for the Netherlands. Hope he'll continue this weekend.

easy now Vann!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I dont think robinson will come cheap!! considering hes only been at spurs two seasons and now england international. How much do you guys believe he will cost?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Paul Robbo will definitely cost lesser than 10 mill, thats for sure.About Fabien Barthez,he is still top class. He was superb during his first season with us.He began to play differently in the second season and this is down to the coaching staff.I think they told him to cut down on the eccentricity and be a lil more serious.By doing that, you are taking half of this man's ability away. This ultimately prove to be his downfall at united. In my honest opinion,he was the best we had after Pete Schmikes.I still remember his long accurate kicks and throws, setting up counter attacks, his unbelievable agility, his nutmegs & body feints on players, top class! Come to think of it,there is no other gk playing like Fabien now cause they dont dare to.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

How old is Casillas again?? 27?? i think that if he comes, he can play some time with us too...but that will take a lot to get him off from Real Madrid...and i doubt that the board will let us do that as after Rooney, we can't afford any other players before we sell...

and to be honest, Robinson have been doing fine both in club and international level (so far), he might be worth buying...seeing how Carroll is leaving and Howard is still not ready...BUT if the next goalie (whoever it is) drops in form again, then it's the coaching staff for sure!!! to be honest, i liked Barthez in his first season too...then after that...it was all gone...and if it IS the staff's problem, if we get another Schmeichel, it won't help...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

how many times have i said this, i know somebody else brought this up, but i just can't get enough of this idea: BRING SCHMEICH BACK TO BE OUR KEEPER COACH!

a true champion picks himself off the floor and does the best that he can, and i think james has taken a bad showing for england and turnend his career around.. props to him, alot of players would have just packed it in...

Its a bit late for him to turn his career around (he is 34 now).

Goal Keepers prime!lol

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The thing about Casillas is that he's 22 which probably is the main reason why I'd want him. He's arguably the best keeper in the world right now and its still 10 years left till he reaches his prime. He's a player for the future.
But as of right now, Howard would do for me. IMO, we should be looking for a midfielder. Our defence is good cuz we have enough great players with decent covers and the same up front too with 4 great strikers plus Solskjaer to come back.
We've tried many new guys in midfield like Miller, Kleberson, Djemba, Bellion, etc who are no way near the standard that Man Utd expect. Phil Neville, Fletcher and O'Shea do a much better job, probably cuz they came through our youth system. Although they are good, they aren't the type of players we're looking for.
We need to be looking for people to replace Giggs, Keane and Scholes. Miller, Kleberson, Djemba and Bellion were obviously supposed to be the ones but they didn't work out.
Is there anyone out there that can replace our midfield?

lol was you high when you typed this dude??

not sure if you know much about james, the guy earned his "calamity james" title along time ago, its nothing new...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Kleberson shouldn't be written off. He hasn't played many games because of injuries, but imho whenever he's played he does a pretty good job. Until he gets a consistent run of games I don't think we should be hasty to judge him.
I think we should focus on working with the midfielders we got right now, and maybe not get more than one midfielder.

he's not a bad player, just not a united player IMO, ive seen a few nice touches and a couple of decent passes in what, two years, not nearly good enough...

in this current season, he has been top notch, thats all im saying vann... which is good considering euro 2004, most people would have called it a day after something like that

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Does anyone have any numbers concerning Kleberson? I know he only played 9 games in all this season.
