Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

But would Chelsea sell to us?
And he's old so I wouldn't accept him.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I think signing Toldo would be good for maybe 2-4 seasons. Hes old, but for a GK its different. Look at dino Zoff who won the world cup at 40, or Peruzzi and Marchegiani who are still class and are 38.

Cudicini imo would also be a good signing.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Werent you the one that said that Toldo is getting old and crap and that Inter need to find a new keeper?

Casillas is about 22 so he has about 15 more years in him. IMO, he'd be the best signing no matter how much he'd cost.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yes but after Real Madrid would need a keeper, and target buffon maybe:(

Yep!

Will Buffon leave in your opinion ?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Nah.. But see Real Madrid are irritating, remember when we had Zidane he was amazing with Juve. But Juve had to let go because Real Madrid offerd so much damn money.
But im not scared.

Forza Juve.

In serie A yes Toldo is losing it, but look at Van Der Saar. At juve he was getting rubbish when he reached 30/31, he went to Fulham and is one of the best in the EPL imo... i think Toldo switching to the EPL will do well.

well cudicini wants to leave chelsea this summer for some first team action and he may well be a cheaper more smarter option imo coz he wont be costing united 10mil more like 3m and then united will have some money left for a midfielder

Hes probably our best relasitic option, he do well at united.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Casillas today revealed that Man Utd have approached him. He said he's considering the offer but money isn't the most important thing to him.
Not sure what he's thinking but honestly I don't care as long as he signs.
Is Casillas out of contract in the summer? Cuz if he is, he'd be free too.

I think he is!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If the board decides to go big,it will definitely be Iker Casillas. If they decides to save the budget,I think it'll be either Frey(not cheap thou),Toldo,Robinson or Given.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

after seeing casillas' approach to this transfer speculation, i'm starting to think better of him. "...but, for me, money is not everything in life." now how many big time players from real madrid would say that? (i don't actually want somebody to quote and prove me wrong, but, you know). it's good that fergie has been talking to iker and that he (iker) feels that fergie likes him. this could be good

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Casillas has the added advantage of being 24, which would fit in nicely with the whole 'youth' feel of Ronnie, Roo, Fletch etc...
I wonder if Howard would stay as a back up, or move elsewhere...hope one day SAF won't be kcikging himself for not showing more faith in Timmy

Maybe because hes a millionaire by now, being at Real for many years would make him Rich enough to live, meaning money isnt an issue...... :)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

but for some, money is still an issue. david beckham is an excellent example, he was brought up through the youth ranks at OT for his entire life, then why real? money. it's quite simple, same goes with michael owen. i see what you mean milan, but it's refreshing to know that he's willing to leave without money being the major factor

ps is it safe to say that perhaps he's tired of winning absa-fucking-lutely nothing for two seasons?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I don't think it was money with Becks, I think he just didn't think he had a future at Old Trafford after his row with SAF. Plus there's the lure of playing with like Zizou, Figo, Ronald, Raul and Roberto Carlos. On paper, Real Madrid looks like a Dream Team or a World All-Stars team.

On paper they look like a old man's team!! I dont care if who we get just dont let it be niemi from southampton because the guy is nothing special and it annoys me when United are linked with him i mean why??

Cudicini would be excellent coz hes got premiership experience and 31 for a goalkeeper is not that old!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

On the B-Side of this Casillas story,I think he is using the same tactic used by Solari. He is just using United name to make Real offer him a bigger, fatter salary.Figure that out guys,Solari did the same...same old,"Ouh,United have been looking at me for a few years now...".The next thing u know, the fella signed a new contract with Real, nuff said.

I agree!

Hes Wasted at Real really!

imo a high class player would be lured more towards Real Madrid than Man U.

Its more to do with league n weather than anything else!

Especially technical players like Robinho n Ronaldinho!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Phase is probably right. Casillas is probably just using us like how Ronaldinho did to get a good contract at Barca.
But then what I don't get is what kind of message is he trying to get across by saying "money isn't everything in life"?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

he wants people to think "aww what a nice guy" so real madrid will go "because of your morality, you're getting double what you get now" :D

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Its no big loss if we don't get him. Howard is great anyway no matter what other people think.
Maybe its best to use the money (if we have any) on another midfielder.

morals or morality mate? just curious...;)

at any rate, i really hope we can make something out of this casillas bit. secondly, somebody like c ronaldo can very easily be attracted to any sorts of transfer speculation and also the weather, somebody mentioned, could have also affected his decision. he has been asked by the media about his future and he's always said that he likes it at OT and that he has more to give to united. i'm sure if ronaldinho or robinho gave england (preferably united :D) a go, they'd take a liking to us too

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yeah i think we should try and sign robinho, hes quality, he will be a big name in the future like ronaldinho.

I dont care about casillas, all real madrid players are assholes anyway.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Last i heard, Robinho was heading towards Benfica, but owned by Chelsea.

And anyway, Brazilians + EPL dont work ;)

You have a point there. but there are exceptions for example ronaldinho, ronaldo, cafu, rivaldo! are you telling me none of these players would of never of made an impact in the premiership? People like kleberson, edu are a bad name to brazil as they have no character or fight in them to adapt to ELP.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Robinho will definately join Real Madrid cuz he knows guys like Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos very well and apparantly (correct me if I'm wrong) the current manager at Real Madrid is actually the ex-manager at Santos which is a big reason why he'll go there.

MUTV were discussing the goalkeeper situation here and came to the conclusion that Paul Robinson would be the best option for us. If we were to get Iker Casillas, he'd cost too much. Barthez cost us about £7million a few years back so how much would a young, worldclass, multi time CL winner cost? I know Barthez was bought because he was a world cup winner but Casillas is much better than Barthez ever was.
Paul Robinson on the other hand would be cheaper, he's english which makes communication easy and he's had the ups and downs in his career from Leeds to winning the England no1 shirt. I think Paul Robinson's the way to go.
