Manchester United Thread

But as we all know, sometimes Real decisions are not so smart.

Anyway, looks like Robin is edging closer to a Fenerbahce move. If so, we may need to add some attacking power to the team.

may is an understatement.

unless we think someone like Depay is capable of scoring 25 goals for us from a wide position it's bizarre with Rooney the only potential recognized CF who managed a whopping 12 or so goals this season.

Wanted to sensible. Can't imagine Depay scoring more than 10 goals in his first season (and would be a happy cat if so) but I still think (or wish) that Wilson is capable if given a nice run of games.

So it seems that there is no way around, we need to sign a proofed goalscorer.

But who?

Unless he picks up an unfortunate career-threatening injury or something (which can happy to any player but is unlikely), Ramos has another 5 years at the top level I would say. He's a complete BEAST of an athlete and always has been since he was a teenager. As a defender, he can still easily be one of the world's best even at 34! He's not even 30 yet. He would be a major coup for ANY club but as many suspect, all this media talk is probably about him getting a bigger contract at Real Madrid which is what I'm sure he's after.

Real would be dumb to let him go and I don't think they're that stupid. Ramos and Varane can play together for the next 5 years, its Pepe that should go since he's not as good as the other two and he's 32 and always a moment of madness away from costing his team with a red card or something. It would be a HUGE mistake for Florentino Perez to lose the heart and soul of this team (Sergio Ramos) and maybe he's not even that stupid...

'Tottenham is a big club – it is not the biggest. Manchester United qualified for the Champions League, but I can't see really the difference with Tottenham.

'For me, it's Chelsea, Arsenal, or Manchester City. Because I think Manchester United is no more a big club, in England, for me. I think like that.

'I think Arsenal will be every time a big club, Chelsea also – City is becoming a big club – but I think United is with Tottenham, with the other clubs. Not one of the biggest clubs, so there's no difference.

'For me, he's a great goalkeeper so he needs to be in the best English club, or French, or Italian, or German.'

That is harsh! lol take away MUFC recent history success trophies-income-what have you. He basis on (2) seasons. His words has very little substances ,but the truth is 2nd spot finishing and a minimum of (1) trophy next season is imo (as feeble as we know I can be)will nullify any of those blasphemy words. If , not his words will form substance to Raymond`s truth. MUFC is not a big club anymore -_- somebody pinch me!

He's a bit of a moron so I wouldn't expect anything different said by him, he picked players based on star signs FFS.

In good news though we've sorted out our RB position  haven't seen much other than his appearances for the Azzuri but he looked excellant on the left so hopefully he is better on the right.

Slight downside is we probably still need to literally sign our entire spine of our team with a CB (Ramos or Otamendi) CM (Schneiderlin or Schweinsteiger) and a CF and probably a goalkeeper if De Gea jets off.

If RvP actually leaves there is no way in hell we don't have a CF lined up. We saw what happened to a striker less Pool with Sturridge s injury (we ll just forget Balo tried) . We can't rely on young Wilson to lead the line if Rooney is undoubtedly injured or suspended part of the season.

Have to agree with this. Even with us clearly moving to a 433 and only needing one striker, Rooney can't play every match.

Hernandez isn't really a lone striker either.

So unless LVG believes he can convert someone like Depay into a striker (?!) then there must be a plan.

RVP is a funny one. 24m for basically one exceptional season and a trophy. Looking back, I still think the team would have been better off over the last 3 seasons if Fergie had bought a midfielder, and left Rooney/Hernandez alone up top.

You cant possibly believe MUFC are just shipping players out w/o a plan. They have the balls to spend £90m on a single player (if) they want -_- .

Na not a chance, RVP was worth every penny for number 20, he'll be a cult hero forever for that season.

I feel a bit sad to see him go :(( just a shame he couldnt have been a United player from an earlier age, always thought he was brilliant at Arsenal, shame how SAF leaving took its toll on him which he didn't really recover from.

Still think he's quality and we'll probably regret letting him go IMO unless we sign a world class striker because our options are looking terrible upfront right now.

ooh Robin Van Persie!

Agree he was worth it. You have to say there is something almost movie like poetic about his tenure with United. Picks 20,says he s there to win his first PL title and deliver no 20 to the club. Does so in emphatic fashion with some wonder strikes and a hattrick to seal it all with an amazing overhead received volley from Rooney. Honestly couldn't have written that story much prettier.

It's very unfortunate he was left with Moyes and a taxing WC last summer. Despite all that his strike rate was still way better than anyone else on the team. And we all thought he was shit all season. I'll miss his footwork and trickery and ability to be seemingly impossible to dispossess. I won't miss the lack of effort at times and frustration or the sitters he tends to miss. Was never sure why RvN and RvP were compared so much. Other than both being Dutch and CF I think they're completely different players. As a pure CF Ruud is one of the world's all time greatest. RvP was at times.

I'll be sad to see him go.
But, I agree it might be best for both parties to part ways.

I agree it probably is best to part ways but maybe having signed a replacement first I'd feel more confident and happy to see him go.

we've seen a fair few strikers go off the market and the ones that are left underwhelm me.

it all comes down to Rooney vs RVP and in the grand scheme of things I can see why we've picked Rooney even if i honestly don't think theres much difference between the two in terms of quality with RVP still the more likely to produce a moment of magic.

Think I posted this earlier in the season, but what was most striking for me about RVP's 30 goals in his first season was the sheer number that came from crosses. Other than against Everton, WHU and penalties, virtually every goal came from a ball played in from the flanks.

And last season, that supply line kinda dried up.

Anyway it's a good time to part ways. You can tell by the club that came imo (no offense intended). It's not like Barca and Bayern were beating down our door, and in theory that's the table we want to sit at.

Now the big question is obviously who is next...I don't think anyone this year. As there is no single outstanding candidate, I'd imagine we'll wait, rely on Rooney to hopefully stay fit and possibly by a 'maybe' young player.

Darmian!!!

Honestly I'm shocked. I welcome this very much!

Does this mean another Italian is possibly on his way?

Don't want Darmian to feel lonely and homesick you know ;)

Best fullback in Serie A according to some but someone like Lo Zio would be able to give a better idea of how good he is.

Gerd - agreed but I just don't see a CF out there at the moment of that quality, Benteke has been linked and he just underwhelms me.

So big week for big Ed. Have to give him some credit. RVP, Nani, Falcao off the wages books, plenty of room for Depay, Schweinsteiger and Matteo with huge room to spare.

Still want Schneiderlein. Can't rely on Carrick/Schweinsteiger every week at their respective ages.

And this all ignores the rather large De Gea shaped hole that is about to appear :(

Wonder if Bastian will take over the captaincy...
