Manchester United Thread

I don't care for him as a person but as a player he is ABSOLUTELY top-notch! One of the best purchases Real Madrid ever made even though they paid $40 million for him as a teenager! He's been worth every penny. It would be extremely stupid of them to sell him but then again that club has made plenty of dumb mistakes and this would be another one...

I`ll take Ramos EVERYDAY over any Defender in the league!!! He`s more attack minded(free kicks, headers& tap ins lol) then a defender . Plus, he could make Di Maria play again.

MUFC pulls that off that would be a massive statement.

Please please please please NO to Sergio Ramos. What an awful, horrible cheating snide player he is. Couldn't stand having to watch him for my team.

Don't care about his good points, he's a one man symbol of the cynical, snide nature of football. I'd rather give De Gea to Madrid for free.

I guess that's exactly the dirty player we've been looking for then for a long time now ;)

Heart, rough, charisma, dirty, arrogance, etc. Maybe every top team needs one of those.

Yeah he's a leader and a winner, something which we lack! sure he's detestable when facing him but we'd soon all love him if he was our side.

Just read about Ramos' release clause. Sounds like either he is using us like Alves did to get a better contract or its United playing psychological warfare with Real. Hopefully the latter because we've sucked at standing up for ourselves in the transfer market.

Can't believe we weren't in for Cech. Perhaps he just wanted to stay in London, but if ed didn't consider him, that would be such a huge mistake. Would have solved our GK problems for at least a few seasons. Sigh.

Great signing for Arsenal mind. A 'great striker' away from a league winning team methinks...

I think its obvious Cech was happy in London and didn't want to change his surroundings.

The Ramos release clause means nothing either way, all La Liga players have ridiculous release clauses.

Release Clauses are just something to scare other teams away, but if they want to sell, they still sell them with lower amounts than their release clause.

Cech is happy in London and wouldn't want to leave, thus it'd be tough for him to come to Manchester.

This will come back to haunt me later, but i don't think this is true at all.

Do you really think Arsenal played a good season?

I think Arsenal should be disappointed about their season, since both United and City underachieved and also Everton underachieved.

If Everton are good they are close to the top 4 and usually win some games against the big clubs...

I think Arsenal had a unique opportunity to go head to head with Chelsea in a title race, they never were contenders.

Next season they will be fourth at best...

PS: both Spurs and Liverpool also missed a massive opportunity last season, by the way...fourth place was up for taking for both of them...

We'll see. There's just so much talent in that Arsenal team now with Sanchez, Carzola, Ozil, the Ox - that will blow away most non-elite teams in the prem.

I think they'll struggle against Chelsea and City again, but you can win a league without winning those matches.

Cazorla had his best season for Arsenal last year. Will he repeat that next year? Monreal too.
Will Coq and Bell have as good 2nd seasons?

Arsenal also have quite a few injuryprone players and part of their problem overall is their naive approach, and I'm not sure Cech will make up for that all on his own

Arsenal are a good side, a team that can blow anyone away on its day, but they're very much a streak side. They might be closer but I still expect CFC, MCFC, MUFC to be the main contenders next year, tho who knows what will happen in the transfer market.

City`s not a threat to Arsenal(p3-w2-d1-l0 ,well depending who there gaffer is. Arsenal has to improve vs Chelsea .

If you hit a tree long enough something is bound to fall. Arsenal had no CB during the start of the season ,They lost and drew too many to combat a proper title run. They finish 3rd spot comfortably and retain a FACUP and beat MCity for the Community Shield . At some moments you can search and say they failed that the banging on the tree metaphor . I think Arsenal are getting use to winning trophies and more players would look to join Arsenal more then before. At best 4th??? c'mon, At worst 4th...they been finishing 4th regardless. 18 seasons is not convincing enough? no jodas

Need more than just talent to win a title tho. I don't see a single leader at Arsenal. Where City and Chelsea have Terry, Kompany, Ivanovic and Zabaleta, and Utd had Vidic and Neville, Arsenal have the gentle giant Mertasacker and Bellerin/Debuchy. Simplistic perhaps but you need these types of characters to win the unwinnable games, and, no matter what positions we look at, Arsenal have no such characters. The last time they did was in 03/04

Sanchez is the difference maker for me. His enthusiasm and workrate are infectious, and he single handedly moved Arsenal up a level.

Will be an interesting season to be sure. One would imagine we have to better, City will have to spend big and Chelsea shouldn't' really be any weaker.

Could be a proper 4/5 way fight if LFC can get their act together.

Kompany just like most leaders become a liability another capt. that cant get on the starting XI . As for the Arsenal your right about that leadership unless the modern age of lead by example then Alexis/Cazorla looks to be that. Although I prefer a leader to be taller then a pint . Nevertheless MUFC looks on paper to be a threat at the start of the season. So time will tell they play Monaco for the CL qualifiers no? So ,they have a tough starts as for the rest ...

Its depends how quickly a squad can gel. I don`t think you can buy a ready made leader? They`re usually installed , groom and molded into the philosophy of the club. Arsenal has no chance of a leader imo unless Petr can miraculously imprint and instill into the squad. I don1t even have a clue whose coming to what club to even identify the improve strength. Everyone starts w/ '0' points .

I love the Spanish press re: this bullsh*t Ramos 'story'.

Step 1: David de Gea is in Spain for unveiling at RM, last Friday.
Step 2: Ramos wants a new contract
Step 3: United offer De Gea for Ramos
Step 4: United offer De Gea + 30m for Ramos
Step 5: United offer De Gea + 75m for Ramos (I mean, I want some of what they're having)

That's all within less than a week.

Personally I don't see a problem. We should give Madrid naming rights to OT, Herrera, Ed's second born, De Gea and Hernandez + 575m + a 1st round draft pick for Sergio f*cking Ramos.

I'm guessing

Step 6: Ramos SNUBS UNITED SIGNS FOR MADRID HALA!

Ramos saga has hotted up!

the idea 12 months ago for us to sign two of the most important figures in Real Madrids winning that Champions League final could be Man Utd player's a year later.

29.

Varane, talented though another 'work in progress' Ramos is a ready made top player, leader, captain type figure who'd hopefully improve our defence's confidence as a whole.

Reports Van Persie is on his way to Fenerbahce, not sure i feel confident about that, I don't think he's done just yet and I certainly don't think he's a level below what would be our only other CF now in Rooney so its super risky to sell without already having a signed a top quality CF which I don't actually see in the market in the first place.

The only positive right now I'd see is getting close 300k+ wages of our books with Nani and RVP both off.
