Manchester United Thread

Sounds like Danny !

Danny could still be a top player, I was gutted to see him go. He just doesnt score enough goals for a players who is supposed to score goals.

I think Smalling has as many goals as Welbz this season.

If Welbz had the same goal return over the last 3 seasons that Benteke has, he'd still be playing for us.

I think there are quite a few differences between Wellbeck and Benteke.
Wellbeck seems a lot faster to me. Benteke has become more of a scorer lately.

Benteke has gone thorough a very remarkable evolution. I know him well because he has played for both KV Mechelen (a club whose stadium is 4 km's from my house and that i watch very frequently) and Genk (my favourite that i also see quite a lot). Wehn he played for KV Mechelen, he was booed by all the fans. He seemed clumsy and was not good enough in for a fisrt team place at a club who was fighting relegation in the Jupiler League. And then he returned to Genk (where he came through youth ranks) and suddenly things started to click. He had one fantastic half season because in Kevin De Bruyne he had a player with a fantastic passing ability and bot h players have an an wonderfull instinctive understanding between them (the same goes for Eden Hazard and Benteke by the way). In the january transfer window of that season Benteke was trnasferred to Villa and performed beyond expectations. The regular Mechelen fans can't understand how he became that good.

I said that i think Benteke is not good enough for United, but if United managed to buy both De Bruyne and Benteke, they would have an outstanding pair of players. As long as De Bruyne and Hazard are playing, Lukaku will always be on the bench because Benteke has a much better understanding with both of them.

If that would happen (and it is possible because there are strong rumours that LVG is interested in both Benteke and De Bruyne), the United fans will have to be patient for 3 or 4 months. Particularly De Bruyne is a player who needs some months to adjust to a new club.

I think we could see a change in shape next year, I expect a wide forward to play pretty high up the pitch so a solid backup like Benteke would be a good CF option.

I don't rate Benteke if I'm honest. Technically I don't think he's very good and as Gerd says, when he's bad, he's really awful.

His current form is great but I think it's just a purple patch, even allowing for his first season at Villa.

I don't think he'd make it here, better to be a big fish in a small pond.

Bizarre, apparently we've signed Gundogan. Was a huge fan a couple years ago, but gone from injury to injury since. Not sure he'll ever reach his heights again.

Fear a Hargo mach 2.

Was phenomenal the year Dortmund won the championship and reached the CL final, not to optimistic bout his and our injury records coming together though!

If you can time Carrick's and his injuries it could work out great! Very good player if he can stay injury free.

De Gea has been offered a 200k p/w contract to stay, apparently.

Other article quoted 180k plus bonuses to push it to 200k. Not sure whether to believe it as it's pretty obscene for a goalie but considering he s basically a goalie AND a CB considering how many times he bailed us out in the past he may well be worth it. Having said that..the likes Smalling and Rojo have been extremely solid for us lately.

This transfer season coming up will be far more interesting to me than its been for us in a long time.. Possibly. It's the first one LVG will likely have full say in and as history proves he s not afraid to chop up a team.

Evans and Rafa being gone seems a given, as is DePay coming in.. The rest however I wouldn't place any bets on. Still think Adnan should go on loan somewhere.. He needs more playing time but it d be foolish to let him go. Competition on the wings with DePay possibly arriving would be too great for him in his current state.

Nani and Hernandez will likely go too.

Magic number is 7 points. Think we'll drop a couple tomorrow - our away form has been woeful this season - but still not over the finish line.

Ah right forgot about those too. Nani for sure.. Chicha one wonders who would take him then. I can only see Real giving us a cheeky 5 million euro bid.

The hell was that performance? Still worried.

We have that in our locker too.

Since Carrick has been injured, we've conceded 5 and scored 0. Needs addressing in the summer.

Maybe. They still have an easier run in, and our 'lead' is only 4 points when the beat Hull.

Will be close. LVG has work to do, and it's incredibly depressing to hear our players 'weren't up for it' today. What the hell is that about? Play the reserves if that's the case.

Even if they beat Hull, it's effectively 5 pts with GD.
Can't see you getting less than 71 pts and that's the max LFC will get. They won't beat CFC

Jose would let them win if it would weaken United for next season. LFC in the CL is far less a threat than United in the CL.

If LVG misses that target, he might go, we won't get signings and so forth. Imo of course.

People have gotten carried away by a great month of football. We've been terrible for the rest of the year - and LVG has no plan to beat teams away from home that don't come at us.

no chance, then it would be to obvious... they would need to score some own goals, because this LFC team is clueless, we don´t deserve to be in top 4... even with this lucky result for us, top 4 is gone yesterday with the draw at WBA...

as for United, you would not fire LVG and would sign top players even without CL..

Chicharito is scoring for fun for RM! tap-ins , headers , bottom right corners and (ball thru)over the top control shots :CONFUSE: He`s a new player.

Would take him back in a heart beat. Falcao was worth the risk given the player he was, but obviously not touching him this summer.

Never understood why he fell out of love with United. Always seemed to have such a fantastic attitude, like he was blessed to even be playing football.

The Moyes Effect

I don't think Man City will recruit Rodgers...they'll stick with Pelligrini for another year and then go for Pep.

De Gea still hasn't signed yet, while I still believe most of the news and fuss is coming from the media and not from De Gea, but is he still awaiting for us to confirm Champions League before he signs or is he willing to turn his back on the Athletico Madrid fans and sign for Real? Don't think Valdes will be able to replace him though...

Everton result was a nice blessing, shows how far we really are again even with a nice bit of form giving us top 4 (should beat West Brom and thats that)

we need to sign players for a system rather than for the sake of signing big names.

Youngun, i know you have it for ages, but you really have a very nice avatar...the best i've ever seen on this forum...great.
Where do you got it?

Don't be afraid, i will not steal it...

Totally agree. With Rooney out for the season (apparently) we're still not out of the woods. RVP looked good for the reserves last night, but that was the reserves. And then Falcao. Sigh. Such a shame.

I think mentality has always been as big a part of United's transfer strategy as actual ability. That was really Ferguson's great skill in the transfer market - identifying players who would be able to deal with the atmosphere and pressure that he created. I'd imagine LVG is similar - he's more after players that are smart and will adhere to his (blech) philosphy than perhaps more talented, better known players.

I think I trust him to have a good summer, even if I've barely heard of the signings. In fact, I'd much prefer to it to this galactico approach Big Ed has tried to take.

Watch us sign Ed's mancrush Cavani instead...
