Manchester United Thread

I'd be happy with a point, I think if we play it right we can get that as I don't think Chelsea will be that ambitious

Well that was before learning that 4 of our players that were in the team last week are now out. Grumble.

No Carrick, Blind, Jones or Rojo. So either formation change or Blackett/McNair. Crap.

I don't get how that's a dive. While it was weak to be a penalty, but there was a clipping of legs on the player. How was that a dive?

Looked like a dive to me. La Liga players are experts at it. Herrera was intentionally dragging his leg imho.
Too bad to finish this way.. Herrera was brilliant today otherwise. Really happy to have him.

Decent performance overall. Just seem to lack intensity in the closing stages of a game when chasing. Under Fergie we would have been laying siege. The sight of Januzaj coming on now just fills me with despair

Our away form has been poor this season, but any season where we win at Anfield is good for me.

I hope Adnan turns it around, we all said the same about Young. If LVG keeps him for next season, he will improve.

I do like our new style of play, I am interested to see how this system works in europe next year.

Haha LVG super pissed off about the foul on Falcao right before Chelski s goal. Can't say I blame him. Play should've stopped but oh well. 70% possession in the game again. Van Gaal style is definitely here.

We were by far the better team on the pitch but we lacked efficiency and a bit of luck today. That's football.

You are forgetting about De Gea handball on the penalty area. :)

Man Utd didn't play bad at all. They couldn't beat our defense which is fair to say the least. All we needed to do after the goal was sit and relax and the job was pretty much done. Although there were a lot of miss passes that needs to be addressed on our side.

De Gea was outside the arena and there was no foul on Falcao, to me (and according to the commentator) there was no foul. Both commentator and pundits also thought De Gea wasxoutside the box when he handen the ball. The halfmoon is not part of the box.

Feet inside, I think hands/arms just outside so by the laws of the game handball, but valencia was also there and would have cleared the ball if De Gea hadn't so not preventing a goal scoring opportunity would have warranted just a yellow, Terry coming right through the back of Falcao in the build up to Chelsea's goal was a foul played the man before the ball. Mourinho is dressing this up as a tactical masterclass, they were dominated in every department except the one that matters, the scoreline.

Yes, but then it would have been a penalty.
All in all, i think United played a good match and would have deserved a point at least.

IMO Rooney was bad.
Especially in the first half, he had lots of space but didn't do anything with it. One can see Van Gaal is a fantastic manager how he set up his team to assure that other player "decoyed" Matic in giving up on Rooney...that was great...only Rooney Had a bad day at the office...sometimes this can happen.

Van Gaal, great manager, but what a prick...anybody saw the interview on MOTD? What was wrong with the questions? Nothing.

Currenly i'm reading a book by Dutch journalist Hugo Borst who is obsessed with Van Gaal, i was excepting to learn something from Van Gaal the coach, but this is about Van Gaal and his aversion of journalists.. i don't know who i dislike most, Van Gaal or Borst himself.

Apparently the book is translated in English...don't read it...

:))

Lots of positives from yesterday I thought, we actually were the better side but lacked the cutting edge in the final third which they had with Hazard. Carrick playing instead of Falcao and I think we'd have scored.

Falcao was definitely fouled before there goal, not sure how that can be argued, De Gea should have been a yellow and FK on the edge.

the actual dominating of the ball though was brilliant to see, with someone of Hazard's ilk in our side we would have won and quite convincingly I believe, he was the difference.

Apparently PSV have confirmed our interset in Depay. Will be fascinating to see if LVG can help him make the step up. For every RVN and Suarez there are like 5 Kezman/Alves etc from the Eridevise.

Happy enough with yesterday. We played better than we have for years at the bridge. Things didn't fall our way in terms of the result, but just need 3 more wins and the season's goals will be met.

Hope we don't get complacent.

Rumours here in Belgium that LVG is interested in both Cavani and Benteke.

I love Benteke, but imo he is not the player United need. Benteke would be brilliant for teams like Liverpool, Spurs or Southampton. United is a cut above them.

The Cavani rumor has been around since at least last summer when some folks seemed convinced he was on his way. I don't see what he would add to this team. A young talent like Lacazette would seem to mesh a lot more with LVG s way of thinking. His new Kluivert if you will.

Depay would be a nice buy. Really like him everytime I've got the chance to see him. Not sure about Cavani and Benteke. I read that Benteke got a new agent who try to transfer him to a top club in a frantic way.

Absolutely. We look very goog. Like Rooney said, you see that something has clicked and you the development behind it in the last six games. I hope we secure third place and I really believe it is possible.

I do not understand Gerd. Benteke is a very very good player, techniquley very good and physically up to life in The Prem.

Why would he not be the player we need, we would have more points than we do if we had him this year.

Rafael and Adnan Januzaj picked up injuries at United's Under-21s drew 1-1 at Leicester :(

Re Rafael: what's new right?
Re Adnan: I'm not worried about that.. In fact.. Call me selfish but at least that means he can't be pissy LVG doesn't pick him and him starting to question his stay at United. Like the great Cruijf once said: every disadvantage has its advantage

Well it's not like Rafa nor Adnan actually play that often and when they have they've been terrible this season.

Rafael will be sold and Adnan will go on loan, who knows if he'll actually come back.

Van, i doubt if you would have much more points. Benteke has been put injured for most of the season and he came back too early. He has become the player he is now (again) for some weeks now. This coincidence roughly with the period United have been very good. Maybe he could have scored in the Chelsea match, but i have a feeling you would have won that with Rooney upfront too.

I finally also think that falcao is past it. Such a shame, because he was such a fantastic forward.

About Benteke. I think he is very, very good. But he is not world class. A massive club like United should always have a real star player upfront, players like CR or Messi or future stars like Jackson Martinez. I also rage forwards like Bacca higher than Benteke.

But boy, would i like to see him at Spurs...

He has been injured but still has as many goals as any of the United strikers, in a struggling team. The games where we have dropped points away from home and the 6 points we dropped to swansea, I think a striker like Benteke could have made a difference and would have poised more of a threat than what we have at the moment.

We have never been successful in buying star players, the majority of players are promising talent (Rooney, CR) or proven performers at a high level (RVN, Carrick, Rio, Cole, Yorke) When we big big money for stars, Di Maria or Veron it is usually deemed a failure.

Benteke could enjoy a stage like OT.

I kn

I can see Benteke have a start like Felllainiand get better after a couple of months. His problem is that he needs to start games, he is not good as a sub coming on in matches.

He's also a player who is awfull if he isn't good. He is starstruck, even in our national team....
