Looks like Rojo deal should go through, just sort a medical and personal terms.

Not an ideal signing in my book, but he's likely better than Keane and Blackett today, so an improvement you'd imagine. Can also play as either CB or LB, which is handy when our only senior LB is Shaw.

Nani is a sad story for me. He has 2 seasons at the very top, and then just faded. Wish him the very best in Portugal, maybe this will revitalise his career. Undoubtedly talented, but never seemed to have the brain to match it.

The big news for me is that we've let Nani go, meaning as far as I can tell, we only have Janujaz and Valencia who are true wide players. Signifies to me that LVG really is sticking with the 352. I'd always assumed he'd go with a 433 - which he's done at every club he's coached at.

Squad is still massively unbalanced. Despite our highest ever summer of spending (72m) we're still miles behind the other big teams. All down to potential now.

Smalling, Jones, Shaw, Janujaz, Welbeck are the key. Can they make the step up under Van Gaal? they'll get opportunities.

Also a word for two forgotten men, just read an interview with Owen Coyle who had Nick Powell on loan and said he was the best player in his squad. No idea where Nick is right now, probably injured. And saw a video of Anderson - who looks positively svelte. Imagine if LVG can turn his career around.

So Rojo deal is costing us close to £25m for the first year, his transfer fee+wages and the fact we are paying Nani's wage for the year even though he's at a different club entirely. Well, that's just awful business imo.. Rojo's not even that good.

Reports that he had a release clause of around 23m so you've probably just paid it in a roundabout way with the inclusion of Nani. Probably the clever thing to do if you're not going to use him. His valuue might increase whilst out on loan and you could recoup a good chunk of the money ...if the potential buying club can agree to his wages.

Strange what happened to Nani really. Around 10/11 he was the Utd player I feared the most. He basically just fell off the map completely

Woodward is carving his own new paths of terrible football transfers. Watch this space.

I expect to see Hernandez sold for about £4m to a rival for 6th place (hi Spurs), us to pay for Fellaini to go to Napoli for the year and us to pay for Anderson to cruise the world on a party boat.

The man hasn't a clue. Not one clue.

Now it looks as if both chicharito and Fellaini could go to Spurs.
Strange, Belgian media were adamant that Fellaini to Napoli was a done deal.

United will never deal with Levy again, as I understand it. They were irate at what Levy did with Zeki Friers, not to mention how much he's screwed us around in the past.

Plus, what idiot would sell 2 decent players to a rival at a reduced price? Oh. Ed Woodward. That idiot.

Because he makes all the decisions on his own? Don't know who this guy is and don't really care but how come he's the scapegoat when surely there is a management team behind all comings and goings at any football club?!

What happened ?

What happened ?

He was a United youth product that was starting to make some inroads into the first team, I believe he had a CL squad number and might have played a few mintues with the senior setup. He ran down his contract so was free to leave.

Spurs wanted to sign him, but as part of the English rules, if an English youth product is signed who is under 23 then the academy that developed him is due a fee (normally reasonably small too). So Spurs had him sign for 6 months with Standard Liege, then bought him from there.

It was a glorious dodging of the rules from Levy, and more worrying for us (especially with Ed's ability to sell people) it opened a loophole that is supposed to protect English academies (yes yes, Rossi/Pogba/etc etc) and as the largest producer of English players playing in the premier league, that's a big deal to United.

Not quite sure what you're on about, but when it comes to transfers and Tottenham Hotspur, there is indeed one man that makes all decisions. He's bald, likes money and wears little glasses.

Thanks for the explanation. Another reason to hate Levy and Spurs.

That's the popular conspiracy theory at least. Where do I get the tinfoil hats by the way?

Occam's razor much? Spurs wants player for no fee to United. Player bizarrely signs for Standard, makes just 6 appearances, then magically signs for Spurs at the next available opportunity, just 6 months later.

I mean, sure it's possible it's a coincidence, but COME ON.

If United sell Danny I'm through with Ed. He's our best player dammit, well in my heart he is anyway.

If he goes to Arsenal he'd improve them instantly.

Edit: Easy money = Sunderland win. LVG confirmed Herrera is injured, meaning we have no fit, United-quality midfielders at all. Who needs a midfield eh?

So Welbeck is told to leave the club?

I'd have thought he is the exact type of player Van Gaal wants. Not the most technically gifted player but athletic, high work rate, very agile. Kinda Similar to Dirk Kuyt.

Totally agree. Plus RVP and Rooney are hardly getting younger and both can pick up a knock.

Welbeck apparently had his agent ask to leave last season too, so methinks this might be some gamesmanship. Hopefully. We'll get him on a better contract, he should absolutely be in line with Jones/Young etc which he probably isn't.

One of the hardest working players in our squad, and to me always seems on the verge of being the complete package, but not quite getting there. He does infuriate me with some of his misses though. Cost us a few points last season with shocking misses at bad times.

Anyway, only this United. All 3 of our signings are unavailable on Sunday, and we have 7 first team injuries. One week into the season.

Yep, me too. Danny is more of a LVG type player too, as others have noted.

Must be more to it.

Yeah its a bit odd to me as well. Though honestly LVG strikes me as the kinda coach who would say to a player : "look, I think you have potential but as long as you're here, I can't guarantee you a lot of playing time to further yourself. You should look for another opportunity because you're better than that"... Or something else Melo-dramatic. In the meantime.. Ashley Young is that annoying co-worker we all have who keeps doing juuuuuust enough to get by.

With injuries, think tomorrow we'll have to go:

-----------------De Gea-----------------
----Jones-------Smalling-----Blackett---
-Rafael-------------------------Young---
----------Fletcher--Cleverley-----------
------------------Mata------------------
------------RVP---------Rooney----------

That midfield though...cripes.
