Manchester United Thread

Goto is clearly the most qualified fan on here to give us abuse, which I assume it's why more of his posts are in here than the city thread :)

The one and only goal should be getting to a CL qualifying spot but I believe the only way to do that is to think we are capable of winning the title.. Even though we don't have the team for it atm. A few signings.. If they ever happen it would/could change some things as we clearly don't have the European distraction like Pool used to its advantage last season. If anything I just want to see progression and some optimism restored to the club, rather than the depressing downward spiral of last year. LVG is in theory one of the most important signings for the club ever.. If he can build a new team from the ground up just like he already did at Ajax, Barça and Bayern.. And to some extent AZ. At least the man immediately took responsibility yesterday for saying the squad not looking like a team was entirely his fault. How refreshing after last season.

For the first time I'm starting to get a little worried about the short term future of United. This feels like a rehash of last summer, which was universally accepted by the club itself as an unmitigated disaster. I've no problem with Ed and co making mistakes - as long as they learn from them.

Since Ed took over, he hasn't completed one signing well. Not one. Fellaini - overpaid like a f*cking moron.
Herrera - paid the buyout clause, and even f*cked that up at first
Shaw - overpaid like a boss, but at least he's a player we needed
Mata - still don't know why we bought him, overpriced and not what we needed. Opportunity for a helicopter must have played well with sponsors.

And that's it. That's all the man has done from an improving our football team standpoint in 2 years in the job. At a time every other 'major' team in world football has strengthened, Woody has negotiated great deals with sponsors so his parasite bosses can take more money out of the club, without putting any in. The amount we've spent on transfers as a % of profits is still going down year on year.

Originally I had hoped that we HAD to be in the CL to keep sponsors happy, and that was the only motivation needed for the clubs hierarchy. But I now doubt it. They'll have looked at the summer tour - when United were the team selling out all the stadiums despite finishing 7th - and say alright great. We can be a midtable team and get by on the name association alone for 4-5 more years, then sell out. That's how to maximise the return on their investment.

F*ck the squad, it's as meaningless as a parking lot to the Glazers. As long as it's converting to cash, they literally could care less.

I can see no more major signings and LVG erupting at some point, leaving, and then we're completely screwed.

The worst part is, the only 'answer' to win at football these days is a sugar daddy owner. And I don't want that. I just want United to be run as a football club , not a money making machine for some freak American redheads.

This should make you happy Beach.. Just read on redcafe that #GlazersOut is now trending in Twitter world :BOP:

We had half a stadium of green and gold fans and they probably didn't even hear about it ;)

As long as they're pocketing the cash, they could care less what fans think of them.

A bit of topic, and very pedantic but....

It's "couldn't care less". I dont understand why American regions seem to always say that. Similar to "same difference". Oh well, carry on...

Fans can always voet with their feet, stay home a couple of matches....two consecutive mepte Old Traffords and the Glazers negociate, three and they are out.

Of course this will never happen. There are always hunderds of people who want to fill in the vacant places...

fans could influence the manager leaving , nothing else.

fans also don´t need to pay ticket and see the match. Let´s see if they can pull it of if they protest..

If United won´t win, the changes will be done.. it didn´t take a year for Moyes and he had a 6 year deal..

in football, wich is buisiness now, anything is possible.

16m is nothing when u consider he proved himself on the world stage as a very competent and able defender. Shaw and Hererra cost nearly 60m...puts it into perspective how much we overplayed.

Everyone knows we overpayed for shaw by a long shot, as we have been doing for last year now. too much on mata, too much on fellaini. our transfer dealings have been abysmal.

You gave them Nani on a no fee loan and are paying his wages as well tho. Guessing Nani would be on 100k at least and you'd ordinarily expect to get a couple of mil for a season long loan for a player like Nani.

Pretty expensive for a lad who was largely unknown (at least to me anyway) prior to the WC.

With that said, it's late in the window, Utd are desperately in need of defenders, and he can cover in multiple positions, so it may be worth it. He's also youngish

Looks like Rojo deal should go through, just sort a medical and personal terms.

Not an ideal signing in my book, but he's likely better than Keane and Blackett today, so an improvement you'd imagine. Can also play as either CB or LB, which is handy when our only senior LB is Shaw.

Nani is a sad story for me. He has 2 seasons at the very top, and then just faded. Wish him the very best in Portugal, maybe this will revitalise his career. Undoubtedly talented, but never seemed to have the brain to match it.

The big news for me is that we've let Nani go, meaning as far as I can tell, we only have Janujaz and Valencia who are true wide players. Signifies to me that LVG really is sticking with the 352. I'd always assumed he'd go with a 433 - which he's done at every club he's coached at.

Squad is still massively unbalanced. Despite our highest ever summer of spending (72m) we're still miles behind the other big teams. All down to potential now.

Smalling, Jones, Shaw, Janujaz, Welbeck are the key. Can they make the step up under Van Gaal? they'll get opportunities.

Also a word for two forgotten men, just read an interview with Owen Coyle who had Nick Powell on loan and said he was the best player in his squad. No idea where Nick is right now, probably injured. And saw a video of Anderson - who looks positively svelte. Imagine if LVG can turn his career around.

So Rojo deal is costing us close to £25m for the first year, his transfer fee+wages and the fact we are paying Nani's wage for the year even though he's at a different club entirely. Well, that's just awful business imo.. Rojo's not even that good.

Reports that he had a release clause of around 23m so you've probably just paid it in a roundabout way with the inclusion of Nani. Probably the clever thing to do if you're not going to use him. His valuue might increase whilst out on loan and you could recoup a good chunk of the money ...if the potential buying club can agree to his wages.

Strange what happened to Nani really. Around 10/11 he was the Utd player I feared the most. He basically just fell off the map completely

Woodward is carving his own new paths of terrible football transfers. Watch this space.

I expect to see Hernandez sold for about £4m to a rival for 6th place (hi Spurs), us to pay for Fellaini to go to Napoli for the year and us to pay for Anderson to cruise the world on a party boat.

The man hasn't a clue. Not one clue.
