Manchester United Thread

Hummels was a non starter a long while ago, Dortmund aren't going to sell unless he asked to leave which was never going to occur yet.

as of right now I don't fancy our chances for top four, things could change but I can't see much transfer activity at this point.

Blind on deadline day.

Only hope I hold out is that LVG must know top 4 is his goal. Selfishly, that means he needs to get the players necessary to make that, or he could be viewed as a failure in his final (?) major job, and his ego will never allow that.

Remember Liverpool were in 7 th before they started playing 1 game a wk.

Tis a very good point. They had a nice gentle start to the season too.

Literally the only two things I don't like about LVG's reign so far:

1. We have 3 senior centre backs in the whole squad
2. Any word of Rafael leaving. No sir, no way.

Never a good idea to force a move on paper. It's a financial suicide attempt.
Blind in for £20m must be the old Mutd pr£ce FFS lol

Squad numbers released, wonderful to see Adnan with the number 11. Crazy to think only one player has worn that since I started being able to see United back in the early 90's.

Big gaps appear to be 5,7 and 9. Figure RVP would get 9 if he wanted, but he said he didn't want fans to be annoyed about buying his #20 jersey. (best selling kit last year in the EPL, that was a huge shock to me).

If we could fill 5 and a midfielder we should be okay this season. But unless Blackett is far better than I remember from his youth team days, I dunno.

Part of me would love to see Van Gaal think long term, use the best youth players and plan out the next couple windows. We'll almost definitely be in for Strootman in January as long as his knee holds up, which would mean we wouldn't want to spend big on midfield this window.

Lots of chat about Di Maria and I love the player (and Madrid are nuts as ever for getting rid after he was the standout last year) but I don't see how he fits in the 352. Would mean that Van Gaal could move back towards a 433 I guess, but then only one striker...Rooney v RVP...sigh.

Di Maria essentialy played as CMF for Madrid last season. Although it was one of those "Pirlo's" roles that Ancelotti creates. A CMF/LMF. I think he could replace Mata, but since Man U had other glaring holes, I don't see LVG go for him.

Are you worried you might get beat?

Of course, only natural. First competitive game with a new system, huge pressure on LVG, virtually none on Swansea - headline writers the world over desperately pleading for a United loss so they can set the agenda as quickly as they did against Moyes.

That said, as long as Fletcher is fit and at 100% despite playing Tuesday, I think we should be okay. Wouldn't be shocked to see RVP get a sniff despite what LVG said, as Welbz is another to add to the injury list. Already.

Think it'll be:

--------------De Gea---------------
-----Jones----Smalling--Blackett---
--Young-------------------James----
----------Herrera-Fletch-----------
---------------Mata----------------
----------Rooney---Hernandez/RVP---

Just the 9 first team injuries then. For f*cks. Sake.

We can't enjoy our easiest start in ages by having the luck of a remotely fit squad :TTTH:

On the plus side.. Read rumors Rafael might actually be fit again, tho I doubt he could play a full match. Can see RvP making a cameo too in the 2nd half. Still.. With Mata, Herrera, Rooney and Januzaj(new no 11 baby!) we should be able to at least outscore them.

The media are such scum. They must stay up at night trying to work out how to trick (often foreign) managers and players to talk themselves into a trap with ridiculously loaded questions.

LVG is having none of it, nice to see.

Also, interesting 'fact' from the transer side:

In the summer window 2013/14, the team in the PL with smallest number of signings? Manchester United.

In the summer window 2014/15, the team in the PL with the smallest number of signings? Manchester United.

But big Ed talks a big game.
