Oh cool, missed that. Happy days then.

Mata+Herrera is some bromance in the middle. Will be very interesting to see if they're able to work at 'premier league speed'.

3-5-2 has it's strengths but it has a major weakness as it's very susceptible to being doubled up on out wide. 3 CBs don't count for much once you're exposed and defending pull backs.

Or better - if they're able to make the premier league play to their pace. After the first game the dreamers are out but if Rooney, Mata and Herrera play that well in the season RvP is going to seriously score a tonne

Tactical flexibility is one thing that we sorely lacked last year, so I guess its good and the players are always able to do it with a great coach (And LVG is definitely a great coach as he's very straight in telling players what to do, if they're wrong or right and making a huge deal out of it). Very...teacher like

FFS, apparently Rafael has picked up a groin injury during the last game...

Plays 45 mins in a friendly game and still gets injured!

Was in training, but still. We desperately need him fit, we're a different team without him, and don't have a single sub that is a specialist there. Not a good sign. He was also hyper-active against the Galaxy, needs to calm down a bit.

Looks like no Vidal or Strootman then. Not too bothered by Vidal, wonderful player, but would be expensive and not at an age where we'd recoup anything if his knee injury turns out to be recurring. Strootman logically seems a 'sure' bid in January.

We still need midfield reinforcements, and another CB in my opinion. Though, Tom Thorpe will be playing in the prem in a year or two for someone, might be worth giving him a chance.

Glad we held on, the final XI we had out there..central midfield of Kagawa and Lingard, 'protecting' a back 3 with Keane and Blackett. Eeesh.

Rooney with a very Rooney performance. Touch looked woeful, was terrible for 30 minutes and then a wonder goal, wonder assist and good penalty. His productivity can't be questioned at least.

Roma have strange tactics. They hold it for 3 minutes or so in their back 4, well into their own half, before hoofing it to Destro. Literally all they did for the first 60 minutes or so. I think their first shot on target was from inside then own half. Sooooooooo boring for a friendly to be played like that.

Great first two goals!

Rooney and LVG have really hit it off you can tell Wayne's loving the managers philosophy and buying into what he's doing.

Also my muppet senses are tingling! Di Maria apparently is 'close' to joining us and Vidal is back on after Steve Bates said we'll complete a deal this week.

Fully expect to wake up to Di Maria a PSG player and Vidal to be back off in the morning

Transfer Season, LOVE IT!

Yeah, a fantastic strike, he's a great player!

2 of our goals were really nice as well, though.

Love that LVG threw Amos under the bus. Said something like, yes it's good to shoot on goal from that far, but the ball is in the air 4 seconds, in that I could run 50 meters. So shouldn't be a goal.

:)

More Van Gaal goodness:

When the team was in LA they were put up in the rather lovely Beverley Wilshere hotel. But Van Gaal decided the 25 mile drive to the training pitches (where he was doing twice a day sessions) was too far, so booked them all rooms at the nearby holiday inn.

He was kicking NFL balls the day before ... Over 52 yds back 2 back effortlessly . NFL players n coach cream-puffing themselves on the sidelines.

Ha, Luke Shaw has gone up in my opinion:

Taking time on tour to respond to a random Twitter account? Gosh.

Some nice tidbits from LVG today, admits he prefers 4-3-3 but can't play it right now as we lack quality in the two wide options for it to work and we need some 'specialists' for those positions.

As the commentator said during that 22-pass move, we literally didn't do that once last season.

Didn't lead to a goal and this is just pre-season, but at least the players appear willing to try it.

Also been really disappointed with the matches against Italian teams so far in this 'tournament'. Might just be a fitness thing, but neither seem to have any interest in playing football. Roma basically sat in their own half and fired long balls, and Inter had one shot on goal in the whole match, from a wrongly awarded free kick.

These are just friendlies, shouldn't teams be trying to have some fun?
