Manchester United Thread

Young has been one of our better players lately, I just think Moyes will attempt to freshen it up and I can't see him dropping Mata.

We really need a cheating c*nt in our team. Not the soft, Ashley Young divey type, but the type that is happy to grab some shirts, stop breakaways with little trips and roll around every time they're touched.

If you watch the way LFC pressured Arsenal - half the time they were technically fouling them, but it's all good because the ref is never going to call all of those.

Our team has become outrageously nice.

not criticizing him but is Mata playing that different to Kagawa? odd how one seems to be dropped whilst the other is a 37M signing.

If anything I believe it's just highlighting hte paucity of our left-hand side of the pitch. Evra has good intentions, but overlaps too often and has a poor delivery - meaning the left midfielder doesn't really know whether to attack or defend.

Neither Mata nor Kagawa have closing speed either, so if they gamble, they know they can't catch someone if Evra is out of position.

Crazily, the solution would be to stop Evra overlapping so much, and instead offer support through the middle, from strikers dropping back and midfielers moving forward. But that would require actual tactics, which Moyes doesn't really go for.

Out of the title race within a few months of the season. Out of the top 4 race before Valentines day and out of both domestic cups.

I'd take the piss but knowing football you'd go on to win the CL

We'll never win the CL.

This season is an unmitigated disaster. And it's wonderful. This is what supporting 99% of football clubs is like.

We've been so privileged for so long we've forgotten.

Don't get me wrong, we need rid of Moyes as soon as possible, but try to enjoy not having the pressure each match of needing to stay in the title race.

I just hope we play all the youth now. I've nothing to learn about Rio or Giggsy. Lingard and Thorpe, sounds good!

99% of football clubs don't have a title winning squad or a squad capable of challenging for the league, so it's not quite the same.

99% of football clubs probably achieve close to what their fans expected at the start of the season.

This is closer to what happened to Milan after Capello left.

Post of the century.
Essentially football is about loosing...

No.

Life is about loosing, but trying to do it with style...

Be assured my friend, it will get better...

There's a really interesting point in the F365 mailbox today: has their ever been a 'great' manager that didn't improve on things in his first season with a club?

In their first 12 months:
Fergie took us up 10 places in the league
Wenger won the double
Benitez won the CL
Mourinho won the league
Pelligrini has City top-ish

Everyone seems to hold to this notion that time is what is needed for success, but I don't actually see any evidence of that being the case at top clubs.

Hughes took us from 9th to 10th after adding Zabaleta, Kompany, Shauny Wright, Robinho, Given, De Jong, Bridge and Bellamy to a team which, under Sven, spent a large portion of the season in the top 4 until Thaksin started fucking shit up.

There's always exceptions ;)

Hope the boys are enjoying their warm weather. And that Fellaini is finally back and healthy, we so desperately need a midfielder right now.

Here's a pretty picture highlighting the issue:

Not good enough David. Not good enough.

Wow, as it looks like Rooney might have signed a new contract, someone posted this:

In the last four and a half seasons Rooney has started 130 PL games, scored 85 goals and set up another 44. In the Champions League its 29 starts, 14 goals and 16 assists. In other words, since Ronnie left Rooney's started 159 matches in our major competitions, and been involved with 159 goals.

That is incredible. I know his numbers stack up, but wow.

very, very underrated player. yeah, I know he's a football "superstar" but there are really many out there say he's an overrated fatso (don't really know why). he's not the usual technical type of star but he's always been decisive for his club.

I couldn't be happier about him staying. Even if his new salary ends up costing us the incremental 25m over 4 years that people are saying, we'd never be able to replace him for that.

But I do love the media's coverage this year of United. They're loving it.

1. Rooney is leaving! Moyes has lost it! United are crumbling! The power has shifted!

2. Rooney is staying! United have lost their power! Player has taken advantage of the club! Fergie would roll in his grave!

Because negative stories about us sell papers.

Given the way the season has played out, I wouldn't be too surprised if RVP leaves at the end of the year, especially if we can recoup a good chunk of the 24m. His wages are astronomical, and despite his obvious class, I'm not sure we can rely on him moving forward.

I think this would be more balanced, and faster:

---------Fellaini----A midfielder----------
--Valencia-------Mata-------Janujaz--------
----------------Rooney---------------------

As it's clear Moyes is never, ever going to drop Tony V. Could easily slip in Kagawa (as if he'll be given a chance) for Mata, and have good back up for Adnan and Valencia.

I love watching the media on this Rooney thing. The same paper that reported Rooney was on £240k a week a few months back is now saying United are going to double his current wages...to £300k.

Basically acknowledging they either falsified the first figure or can't do maths.

So many articles about how we're being weak, taken over a barrel, naive and so forth today. Most clicked story on the Guardian's sports page.

Never ignored...
