Manchester United Thread

The thing is, it's just opinions from a different perspective . The word 'Glory Hunter' is actually the mentally really n it's the best form of banter of all. Hey, call me a glory hunter n I'll wear it ALL day! Look ,Abu, reminded me that Mutd already won a trophy this season. RVP in 8 years only had 1 trophy w/ The Arsenal. 2 trophy w/ Mutd

I hope you lots fall now :) @dplane here's a Fantasy Island fact...Football is the most important results in life, fishing is entertaining , lifting a trophy is nearly everything ;)

This the quote the media got that from:

Anderson: "All the players have it. Especially me and Nani, who have been in Manchester for eight years, or other players who have been for a long time in the same place. Sometime the players want to change. Despite Manchester United being a huge club, a club that did everything for us, sometimes a footballer must change a bit and have a different experience, change his football to learn something as well."

What is up with the media these days? Quotes completely made up - Anderson never even did an interview. Yet every major press ran with it.

Is there no journalistic integrity these days?

No, no there isn't. Page views is what everyone is after. His actual quote (sounds like) he's rationalizing being transferred, the headline or whatever it is, sounds like he forced it/asked for it.

That is a very moralistic point of view.
What i'm saying seems coming from and entirely humourless person who takes it all too serious...i don't think it's the case (but i'm obviously biased).
Sometimes there is a fine line between harmless banter, gloating and tribalism (and the last one i really detest, it leads to excesses).
Maybe i'm not cpable to be a real fan and that is why i sometimes don't understand the somtimes blind loyalty of fans for their clubs.
Something i can't graps is the rivals thing between clubs...
Because Spuirs and Arsenal are rivals, me (a Belgian) and a an Argentinian guy from the other side of the world are supposed to be opponents... (the Argentinian is a mere example, there is an Argentine Arsenal fan on this forum, it is not about him).

I happen to like both Arsenal and Spurs (but Spurs a litle bit more). Am i now a bad Spurs fan and (seen from the other side) do i have no right to like Arsenal ?

If Spurs win against Arsenal (it happens now and then) i'm glad, but to me it doesn't make any difference than a win against other teams...when i see footage of some Newcastle and Sunderland in their derby...jesus...those people are brainwashed idiots...

Hope you understand my point of view and that you see that it isn't an holier than thou attitude...the point is that i don't understand it...it just seems a waste of time and energy...

Derby games mean more to those who support their local team for obvious reasons.

Looks like our run of playing teams with new managers is set to continue. Surely Rene can't stay in power after tonight.

Think we've played new managers in their first matches 4 times in the last year?

There should be no stopping the players going into the next game all guns blazing. Playing a team in shocking form, bottom of the pile, just been dumped out of the FA Cup by the lowest leagued team that was left, no excuses for a big win.

Reality: they will probably play well for about a 10 minute portion of the game. No midfield, no idea, shaky defense. Narrow win

Knew you'd have posted that before I even opened the thread :P

Rio is being a bit of a moron there to be honest, knew exactly what response he'd get. I've got a sneaking suspicion that Michael Keane will be ahead of him in the pecking order since he's back from his loan at Derby.

Knowing Rio and how well he is with social networks and such, that has to be written intentionally. He's not featured much, and he doesn't like it. But I won't go too into it, I'm sure it was written just for the fans the go crazy all over...haha

would've been nice if he signed a contract and then left to give us some compensation for his departure...but I guess this way he's more free to choose exactly where he wants to go.

Great player, great servant, sad to see him go, but also a proper timing as he is getting a little slow and maybe its time for the younger ones to step up (I mean the Keane's and other youth players)

anderson: "many players want out of manchester united".

This the quote the media got that from:

Just wanted to go back to this now as I've read this - a nice thing of him to do:

There's something very wrong with the way (sports) journalists work nowadays...

Bit gutted about Vidic, excellent servant to the club and one of my favorites from a select few in recent years. On the other hand it comes as decent timing, age isn't on his side, recent niggling injuries. If his departure results in a regular playing back four then that can only help the team in the long run.

Agree with most of that Met, great servant but the timing seems OK to me, I think if anything this possibly might speed up the thought of a CB signing of the highest quality.

I think Jones/Smalling/Evans/ + 1 should be the four senior CBs going into next season.

Like I said a while back, it's time to choose two (preferably Smalling and Jones for me) and give them a proper run of games to build an understanding and a partnership for the future.

We've been chopping and changing since as far back as 2008/09 but have been lucky that we've always had very good options. Now, given how Rio/Vidic have declined, we need to replace our first choice partnership and then either promote someone from the reserves (maybe Keane?) or buy another CB so we have four.

Problem is, I doubt Jones will ever get a proper run in the defence given the state of our central midfield.

Vida will go down as one of Fergie's best ever signings - certainly he got the most value out of.

I'm surprised we didn't lock him down for 24 months so we could get a fee, but maybe that's where Ed Woodward's transfer expertise came in.

Also do agree it's time to move on. You need your CBs to be available more or less every match, and Vida has missed half the season for the past 3 years. You can't build a team around that, unfortunately.

Not the same problem, but we also have to get rid of Evra soon, because his performances are just not good enough, despite his excellent fitness record.

So no pressure Moyes, but you've got to replace what was once the best back 4 in Europe, build a midfield out of nothing and also get us playing again. Good luck!

Here's a really shocking stat: :CONFUSE:

Final third pass accuracy:
1. Mikel Arteta - 85.38%
2. Samir Nasri - 84.58%
3. Tom Cleverley - 84.54%
4. Mesut Özil - 83.08%
5. Jordan Henderson - 82.08%
6. Santi Cazorla - 81.76%
7. David Silva - 81.56%
8. Leighton Baines - 81.17%
9. Jesus Navas - 81.84%
10. Eden Hazard - 80.76%

Look at the players he's ahead of (you can even say he's practically tied with Nasri)! What do you think about this?
