Manchester United Thread

Just depressing watching the fluency of both Arsenal and City in attack. We're miles off them in terms of quality and confidence at the moment.

Definitely something to kick start the season. Wonder if Moyes already has things lined up for January, the best thing we could do is get someone in on the 2nd as a signal that he's serious.

Confidence is a big thing with that also IMO but yeah agreed. walk before you run, we need to start winning again before I consider 'how' were winning.

Fellaini behind the striker might be your best option until RVP is back. It aint pretty but he was effective there for Everton and I don't see anything other than am impact player in Hernandez, at least at a team challenging at the top (or, in Utd's case, hoping to break into the top 6 :BOP: )

Doubt Moyes would do it tho, even if it would get results, for fear of the obvious accusations

Missed the game, play well today?
All in all better than our last EPL games, some glimpses of fast paced attacking play. But not good enough, we still need improvement.

Fletcher is back and Cleverley played his first decent game in ages.

It was comfortable because Villa were poor.

Rooney actually dropped deep which meant we had a link between midfield and attack and also between the centre and the wings.

Cleverley wasn't as truly awful as he has been for a long time as well. Valencia for once took people on (even used his left foot) and had Rafael bombing down the wing with him which we've needed for a while.

Still in shock that Welbeck scored twice though.

Rafael looks back up to speed, that's crucial to us. He and Valencia sliced through at will.

But Villa were pretty woeful. Hard to read much into the match.

Yeah Rafael looked good yesterday. Crucial player for us. Don't mean to overlook Olympiakos btw but we lucked out in the CL draw for a change. We may not win the PL this year or even get in the top 4 but maybe we can do a Liverpool or Chelski in the CL instead :BOP:

Yeah with all the negativity, the key components of our team IMO are slowing coming back, when is Carrick back for?

Also Phil Jones needs to start 95% of our games, he's a United player in terms of combing quality and the right mentality and that will to win, whether its centreback or if he's needed as a makeshift central midfielder he needs to play.

Carrick might be back after Boxing Day fixture, but he'll presumably take a lil while to get going.

It really is interesting how much better we seem to play with a mobile forward that can control long passes. The matches where Welbz or Rooney have started up alone has given us teh ability to play with them a bit more isolated, and provide more options in the middle.

Weird to see Rooney in the Scholes role, after all his complaints last year. Still depressing that he's the only player in the team that can get the ball to the wings with a single touch.

He does have the ability to make sexy passes but don't forget Giggsy s abilities to do the same!

And agree about Jones. The man doesn't like to lose.

Huge period for you lot coming up. You've a set of fixtures that you'd expect to take 100% of points from and then there's the transfer window which is probably the most important one for you in recent memory.

If Moyes is scouting Bilbao he can't have failed to notice that Muniain is the guy to get.

If I was Moyes I'd go for
Baines
CB
Dembele
Muniain

Baines will cost too much, and really isn't the long term option we need at LB. I'd love to try and get Shaw, but I think he's Chelsea bound.

Dembele is a great player, but not sure he's what we need in CM. He'd be an improvement, but he is a converted forward.

Muniain is an excellent player, but has he stalled somewhat? He was the sure 'next big thing' about 2 years ago, but haven't heard much since then.

Muniain was the best player on the pitch the other night against Seville

Utd lack power, pace, athleticism and skill in CM and so I think Dembele would be a good fit. If players like Januzaj and Kagawa (or a Kagawa replacement) are the future then I don't think a relatively small, weak technical player is the right option alongside Carrick

Januzaj will fill out, he seems tough to push off nowadays and I can see him developing like Kaka a bit in regards to physique.

We need a winger but I'd be willing to wait on the summer for that, Cabaye, Koke, Herrera, someone! we need to bolster that central area with a 'safe' signing who might not be Fabregas or Yaya Toure but a reliable player who can play some nice passes and not be alien to our style of play.

So, can we do it on a cold winter's night in Stoke?

Obviously a trophy would be huge for Moyes, but I hope he sticks with a reserve side. Lots of players need a run out, seems a good time.

Worry is that he'll play Ferdinand, who has been an absolute shadow of himself this year. He'd get bossed by Crouch and Walters if he plays.

Stoke should be feeling pretty confident. They could have beaten us at OT earlier in the season, and a nighttime fixture at the Britannia is pretty much what those fans live for. Hope we get a decent ref, could see the Stoke lads' enthusiasm contributing to our injury list.

Gulp. Lineup against Stoke:

-------------De Gea------------
--Rafael-Smalling-Evans-Evra---
------Cleverley--Jones---------
--------------Ando-------------
-----Valencai------------Young-
------------Welbeck------------

Gotta say I don't see many goals in that team. Very interesting that Moyes has chosen to rest Rooney. Quite a young team too.

Also weird not to see Lindegaard, Buttner and possibly Ferdinand.

Edit: Apparently Rooney is injured, might miss holiday season. Excellent. So that'd be no Rooney, Carrick or RVP for the busiest part of the year. Arguably our only 3 'class' players?

Edit 2: Apparently it's brutally cold, brutally windy and brutally wet tonight in Stoke. Bigger test. Moyes seriously needs some good friggin karma from somewhere, he's getting beaten by luck so far with United!

Edit 3: Teams off due to hailstorm. Anyone remember that happening recently? Brrrrr. Moyes is seriously cursed. Draw away trip to Stoke, fine, unlucky but part of the English charm. But to now have hail and tornadoes....eeeeesh.

Good job by the boys - other than running out of the hail they manned up tonight. Solid win, two great goals.

Sunderland semi-final too. Gotta say I'm shocked it's a two legged affair, seems seriously overkill for the League cup!

Ay that will be big for Moyes, hopefully we have some players back from injury and some signings along with decent form all wrapped up nicely for that :DD (I can dream right?)

A semi useless trophy is still a trophy so some silver this year will be great. Would this, a FA cup and the Champions League count as a treble even if we don't win the PL title? Three is three right? Lol
Gotta set the sights high my friends! :PIRATE:

I hate when people say 'useless' trophy, its a CUP! FUCK! When did people get so spoiled, sure the Premier League and Champions League are priorities but I'd never call anything we can win 'useless'.

especially now, winning a trophy under the Moyes regime would be huge for confidence alone.
